"Realtime CGI in Movie Quality" would be impressive, but:
"It's not at full resolution, but at least it gives them something to work with rather than working completely blind after each take."

Think about that again - let software developers the freedom to choose to add a linux port wheter they need one or not!
If we have binary emulation of windows apps more people will use linux, and if more people use linux more companies will port their product to native linux. but for the user winex is a really good thing, some companies just can't spend money on a linux port for this few thousand sales atm.
The problem of multiple inheritance he mentiones to justify the use of Aspect Programming is solved by interfaces in Java. That does imho not need a new software design but a good design of an OOP language.
but why didn't they manage to do this intern like other projects do? i think this is more about people not liking each other (see artivles before) than about real improvements. maybe they manage to improve XFree, but even then imho i should be re-forked (= be the new) into the XFree standard sourcetree
is an internet connection - if you hav some floppys, cd-rs, network-cables, a cd-burner, a floppy drive, wireless-lan, ethernet and a modem in your notbook that is everything you need.
some dos/linux/rescue disks and os cds would be good, but you'll never be able to have all tools for everybodys needs, so you need an internet connection to search for them (e.g. on groups.google.com, the best source for tech info on the net imho):)
MPlayer in combination with some scripts can do incredible things - for example watching dvds/svcds/files via tv out is done via a small script my system and every time i am running windows i reboot to view movies, and it takes far less time than using tvool cracked version xxx1024-whatever and trying media player, powerdvd, divxplayer etc. to play some region-encoded dvd, some file which codes is rather new and not found or something...
XFree is probably not the problem. I'm running debian unstable with kernel 2.65 (preemptible + linus desktop improvement patch), kde 3.1 with mosfets high performance liquid style engine, optimized nvidia drivers and Xfree 4.2.x atm and it is incredibly fast on my machine.
ok, it's an athlon xp 1800+, but it is way smoother that windows XP running on the same machine, and i would describe the "feeled" improvements as follows:
XFree 4.2: can't recognize any speed differences
nvkernel: opengl support, no differences for ui
preempt: avoids glitches on heavy load, a must
2.5.65 kernel: ui stays responsive even on heavy load, very cool.
liquid style engine: incredible performance boost. the whole kde ui gets rocket fast and responsive after switching to it. just try it!:)
sure, it's bleeding edge system, but i have no stability problems atm and kernel 2.5/2.6 will be in distributions soon, too...
has anybody got debian packages of this release? i never saw any debs flying around ("yeah, of course there will be some - later"), so if anybody knows of some unofficial apt sources, please tell me:)
there are *lots* of game consoles which were not removed, xboxes, ps2s, pcs (running counterstrike for example) so this isn't fair imho... maybe they had to remove the ps2s because they had too many of them on a single stand...
and saw the xbox running at microsoft, but non-interactive, hidden behind glass - BUT, at nvidia was at least one xbox running some interactive demos. somebody tried to start some game, and i saw the first crashing xbox in my life (30 seconds after seeing the first running xbox in my life)
finished and polished? i heard he had a radio show in which he read the books, andhe had to write parts even during the show because the books were not finished... plz correct me if i'm wrong.:)
in fact debians unstable-tree is more up-to-date as progeny is - but notice the word unstable...
progeny has build a stable and new distribution
out of the debian packages...
i don't think open source stands for socialism - of course, it may be so, as do many other things in capitalistic societies... but think about software and knowledge as infrastructure - these are things that have to be free in order to improve the society and even the economy...
first, the *state* had to build roads and universities, now it's the time for the *society* to continue to build the internet and
software...
p.s.: sorry for my bad english;)
i read something about the real production costs of a PIII a few month ago: less than 25$...
i think there is much room for amd to lower their prizes, too...

I'm just using XF86config-files, they are copied
oer by scripts, one includes:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
HorizSync 30-50
VertRefresh 60
Option "TvStandard" "Pal-G"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
# Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO"
EndSection

as a side effect, this prevents stupid people who don't know what this http://-url-thingie is to read confusing articels they don't understand :)
i think this will be done in the next years. with java and c# you have exactly what you need for this (you would need to native compile java, though)
>>> by restricting professors to a read-only view of the article, from which they could not "cut and paste" the text.
i don't think that they would even try to implement something like this - you can always make a screenshot or something.
cool!
when it's included in the normal box you don't need
to *buy* the game to support linux...
think about the consequeces:
"uh, this looks exaktly like windows!"
or
"this is really nice, but can i change it to behave like windows, my grandma wants to write a letter on my linux box"
it think it is a lot better to let people choose their gui style and behaviour... just make sure that you give them pretty *defaults*
the developers decided to rewrite mozilla form scratch... there was lots of criticism, but finally, they did it! :)
yes.
