  1. and? on IE 7.0 Beta 2 Available to the Public · · Score: 1

so what, I refuse to use IE in any form, even if this was provided in the next version of winblows I would still cripple and remove it as far as possible from the system.

  2. Re:Here's what I don't understand... on Review of WidowPC Sting 917 Gaming Laptop · · Score: 1

yeah well thats the way I use my laptop, I get 4-5 blackouts a year where I live, the towercase computer reboots after a glitch in the power, the laptop no problems, the battery will last an hour and a half, plenty of time to finish what I was doing and shut down.

now that laptops are getting cheaper, they are starting to become more popular as desktop replacements, apart from the builtin UPS, they take up less space, once finished for the day it can folded up and put away, out of sight, no tangles of cables everywhere, I friend of mine who sells computers says most of the notebooks he has sold in the last 12 months go to people with home offices, not mobile situations, just to be used as desktop machines, I can see the trend for 17" and 19" widescreen notebooks becoming more popular just for this reason

Epson prints done with Ultrachrome inks will last 80years under glass or 200years in a photo album, plus the print is water and smudge resistant, to prove that point I rinsed a fresh print under the tap, it's fine, no runs, the paper didn't even curl up, the old silver halide prints I have from the 80s have lost their colours.

I use the little Epson Picturemate, its brilliant, did some pictures of a friends 50th birthday, I was able to print the photos and hand them around and not worry about fingers smudging them

  4. Re:Stupid article... on Is Horse the New Mouse? · · Score: 1

well I am lefthanded and use the mouse with my left hand, I just use a stock logitech mouseman, it drives some of my friends crazy because the mouse is on the wrong side for them :)

but one thing I have a big advantage in using the mouse on the left side is playing games like quake3, UT2k4, Doom3 is the keypad is on the right, lot easier to navigate around in the game world, I know some dedicated gamers do the same thing unless they go and buy the reverse keyboard with the keypad on the left.

one simple solution is to use a cordless mouse, then it won't matter which side its used on

  5. Re:Analog watches are better when you're counting. on Ten Technologies That Refuse to Die · · Score: 1

you totally missed the point, your brain is concentrating on counting the pulse, the nurse does not need to be stuffing around pushing buttons on a digital watch, once glance at the seconds hand is all see needs

  6. Re:"Sweep Hand" Watches Rule on Ten Technologies That Refuse to Die · · Score: 5, Insightful

a watch with hands shows present, past and future time in once glance, if you have to meet someone in 25mins one look at the dial and you can see where the minute hand needs to be in that time, and as you get closer to the meeting time you know without having to think about how much time you have left, with a digital watch it only show the "now" time so you need to add that 25 minutes to what ever time is being shown on the display.

a few years ago a well know car maker brought out a digital only speedo in some of their models, the following year they went back to a pointer indication or a combination moving scale with digital display, why? because people didn't like the digital only display, when people look at a number, it takes a moment for that number to register in the brain and figure out what it means, with hands it takes less effort to work out the time

an analogue display is always faster in a glance in this respect

  7. yeah well I do use mine on Do People Really Use Their PDAs? · · Score: 1

I use it pretty well every day, I repair clocks for a living and use my Palm Vx to store my customer details in, the database has been transfered from my Amiga1200 onto a pc then onto the palm, I have no use for a laptop in my work.

I can track my clients by job number, name or job description, there are nearly 3000 names in my address book, some going back 12 years, I also have a few handy programs install to show things like moonphase to set those clocks that have that function, the palm clock is hotsynced to the computer clock which in turn is synced to a atomic clock by ntp server

I also have my dvd colection, facts and figures of various clock makers, a conversion program for weights, measures, distants etc. as for games I have couple installed but rarely play them

this is my second palm and I would not be without one now

yep, my last cd player died a long time ago, so the only way I play music in the house or workshop is either the computer or the dvd player, besides it is my right to make backups of the stuff that I own, so if I want to make mp3s from a music cd that I own so I can play them on my mp3 player for my personal use I will do so and stuff these bastards that are trying to take that right away from me

whatever copyprotection these idiots employ will be cracked and bypassed.

a music cd here in Australia can cost as much as a dvd movie AUS$30 or so, little wonder people pirate the music cds
