    The only way to be sure on a WINDOWS system is to reinstall the operating system, something that Windows users just seem to accept.

    Actually, there are two methods available, one is to reinstall, which takes a few hours. The other is to clean the system and do a comparison from the original media/sources, which would take longer, so it's easier to reinstall. Either way, these are ONLY METHODS FOR ANY OS that guarantee you are not infected.

    Then you have to beg MSFT to reactivate your operating system. If you reinstall routinely, some day they'll start acting like you're expected to pay for it...again

    Yeah, you keep ranting and raving on about that. It's a load of crap and not true at all, but don't worry, it sounds good. Eventually, if you yell loud enough and jump up and down while waving your hands, people might listen or even take you seriously.

    Granted, you'll be acting like a spoiled brat, but hey, it works for politicians.

    Sure, I'm honored.

    I don't think I'll win because I should have tried to go for the triple crown, insulting Mac, Linux and Windows in the same sentence. (Typing "LOL geeks suck" doesn't count.)

    Sarcasm, wit and wry humor do not always translate well to the written word, so I figure most people won't get any of the jokes anyway.

    It's funny, because the Mac fanbois at least hate Windows because it sucks and they can give reasons. Apple haters just seem to hate Apple and the logic is missing.

    Ok, note how the Mac users are fanbois, and hate windows 'because it sucks' But the windows users are 'Apple haters' and have no logic.

    Very subtle, but none the less a good way to twist things around and put you on the defensive.

    Learn from your mistakes grasshopper, and remember, he's baiting you because he uses a mac and needs to try and feel superior. It's like little dog syndrome.

    Deep down, it's only because he's esentually using a glorified dvd player and thinking it's an actual computer. Kind of like linux users, thinking that Linux-HobbyOS Wicked cool version 2.0 will one day be a real desktop OS that someone outside of IT would actually want to use.

    Fortran is just another compiled language. Does that mean it's as capable as Lisp or C?

    That's not a valid comparison, all .NET languages compile to the CLR. That puts VB.NET and C# pretty close together.

    It's just that BASIC is designed for the beginning programmer and C# for the more advanced.

    So, how do we get it to work? Who trusts ActiveX nowadays?

    How about convincing Adobe to add it to Flash, they'll throw anything in there.

    Seriously, how about Google, a nice add-on to their toolbar. Google toolbar, with browser-in-browser support.

    That's because it's a blitheringly stupid idea.

    1. Don't block your target audience.
    2. Don't force them to do something they don't want to.
    3. Don't try to fragment the web, it won't work anyway.

    If they want to use a broken browser, have a popup window say 'your browser is broken, use firefox', and that's it, end of story.

    Your end users DO NOT CARE about your personal crusade to rid the Internet of poorly designed browsers. Really, they don't.

    Do you actually think you're the first person to predict the demise of Microsoft (or Apple) and have a list of points that make sense?

    You can not predict the future, you can only guess based on trends. The key word is guess.

    And of course Microsoft will never again be what it was, everything changes, don't expect them to die a slow death though.

    Then it's a typographical error, most likely a soft-broken 'Y' key, and the joke falls apart. Making fun of someone with a broken keyboard is just mean. He might be on his way to CompUSA right now for all you know.

    Now, if he corrects it to read:

    "Thou shall not use a programming language that works on only one OS. "

    Then it's grammatical, and the joke will hold up. The world will be safe from poor grammar. You will have fulfilled your destiny. Crush the lesser races, conquer the galaxy, unimaginable power, unlimited rice pudding...Etcetera, etcetera...

    Last time I checked, Windows 2000 is still supported. It will be until late 2009.

    Do you mean Windows NT 4? That was supported after the cut-off date.

    Do you mean Windows ME? I doubt it, because that was a consumer OS, and since most banks run NT, that wouldn't make sense.

    So, what banks are running NT2K? And more importantly, what is NT2K?

    Here's 14 random predictions, that I know will come true too. (uh huh)

    1. Revenue will increase in the next year with new releases.
    2. Xbox will eventually kill PS3
    3. More workers = more products = more profits.
    4. Higher stock value
    5. Next Generation OS already in alpha.
    6. New office features and lower price point will = rapid adoption.
    7. Lower upgrade prices = rapid adoption.
    8. You should have said "Macs are hot again" after the fan problems.
    9. First MacOS worm to wipe out 50% of all connected Macs by 2008.
    10. IE 7.5 wipes out Mozilla.
    11. Additional features will set Vista apart from XP.
    12. Linux still requires more work to be as user friendly as Windows or Mac.
    13. Zune kills iPod in 5 years.
    14. Find out that Steve Jobs made deal with devil next fall.

    You might as well just pick some lottery numbers, don't try and predict the future.

    Then you've never played Planetside, or most other Sony games lately. They're using it to gain another revenue stream from their customers while providing the same lack of support they usually do.

    Example:

    Planetside has a bug with Dual Core systems, users have to set affinity on the game manually. This has existed since the first dual core systems hit the market.

    Now, to fix the bug might take a good deal of work, however, patching the EXE to default to the first processor takes about 3 seconds with no code changes using Microsoft's freely avilable tools.

    If you are filling up the bagging area then.... YOU ARE TRYING TO BUY TOO MUCH STUFF USING SELF CHECKOUT!

    Then Home Depot should actually have over 3 registers open. I understand trying to save money, but having only 2 ~ 3 staffed registers causes a huge line that winds thru the front of the store.

    I don't want to wait on a line like that and I shouldn't have to. I'm a paying customer, how about some service for a change?

    Here's a tip: When you have 50+ people on line at checkout, open another register or 4.

    I'm betting a copy of the core install DVD is included as part of the OS install. That way if you need to install a new component you can try the local image first before having to fish out the dvd.

    Windows has had something similar since Windows 2000, lots of copies of the original components and service packs. HDD space is cheap, and you can always turn it off if you need to.

    Actually, I was thinking the same thing.

    People are focusing on just the thumb problems when the article states experiences sharp pains in her thumb, hand and arm when using her mouse.

    I think the thumb problems are not from using the thumb button on the mouse, but the design of the mouse itself, also in part to the switching between the keyboard and mouse.

    (Personally I plan on using my iFeel Mouseman until it falls apart, but I'm always tempted by some of those new designs)

    I program in CF, sometimes it just drives me NUTS! Its the tons of little problems that Adobe/Macromedia/Allaire won't fix.

    Honestly, CF is on a slow decline. It had potential, but they were more interested in making a quick buck. (No service packs for CF5 is criminal)

    And NewAtlanta is not much better. Could have come out with a $300 CF server, flooded the market and charged extra for support. But no, instead you get a free license that basically says you can't run hello world without asking permission and commercial one is $900. Why would I spend $900 for a CF clone? The original doesn't cost much more.

    Um, that's a 13.3 inch laptop with 512MB you quoted there.

    Dell 14 in dual cores (Inspiron E1405 Dual Core) start at about $830, same ram/speed. So, about $219 more for a silver apple logo and the fun of re-buying all your apps.

    I'm guessing it's because they limit the handjob to the commercials only. It's after you get your new Mac home that you discover your wallet was raped instead.
