    Now, the real question is: can a COPYING file in a tar file count as a license, when the user doesn't need to sign a contract or indicate their affirmative agreement to the license terms in any way?

    You'd better hope so. If it doesn't, then you have no right to distribute the tar file.

    No, pure white is defined as maximum response for your sensor. This is, of course dependent on what you're looking with, but there isn't really any other way. If you want to compare two cameras, you should probably choose a candlepower near the limit of what a human can handle.

    Were they utterly stupid, or did you utterly misunderstand their requirements?

    They implemented a distributed SQL DB with no transactions, used SELECT *, and probably accessed resultsets by column index. No doubt about it, they were utterly stupid.

    How are you ever going to maintain that pig? never mind if you have a joined query with 8k/row and 1000 results - how long will that take to load across the network, and how long should it take?

    Now we are expected to work long hours and accept any conditions for what they are.

    Do you really expect that programmers will accept this sort of crap? The good ones will leave or charge by the hour, and the ones that are left won't be able to do much beyond straightforward financial apps (admittedly, a large market).

    That's what 2.4Ghz is for - keep it under 250mw and you're fine.

    It's a continuum - i don't expect to fully define the system before beginning, but having requirements change every damn day makes it impossible to work.

    You are correct, sir. Fast routers are really expensive. Laying 10 or 20 extra fibers is comparatively cheap.

    For those who don't know, n-way set associativity means that a cache can retain n values that map to the same cache line, so a 4-way cache can hold 4 lines that map to the same cache position.

    Intel can now demo a 5GHz chip using the .13 micros process that can run at room temperature.

    Big deal. It has 12 instructions, is ~2mm^2, and consumes 267mW. This looks more like research than something that you would use for real work.

    Let's use your Sickle-Cell gene as an example

    Okay. Sickle cell anemia is an advantageous mutation if you live in an area with lots of malaria (large portions of Africa), but only in its partially expressed form. This is a good reason why people from Africa tend to have the gene. Malaria kills most of the people without it and those who have it fully expressed die within short order.

    Since you base your claim on the cost being dominated by digging costs, I'd say that they cost the same - 2% or something. The problem is that the equipment is fairly expensive, fiber is touchy to deal with, and you probably won't need fiber to the home, ever.
