It's a new paradigm shift! It's revolutionary! It harnesses the radical power or the global economy and bottles it in an easy to use-powerful form avaliable to anybody with an internet connection! It'll make us billions! MUHAHAHAHAHA!
(cough) shit, I just slipped into "jaded movie exec mode" there...
They actually make you use their proprietary WMV player. It doesn't have to phone home, but you have to use the player. That way you could watch the movies on a plane sans 'net connection
I'm suprised that people actually use "real" usernames for kazaa...when I use it do download my gigs of pr0n I alwsy have a username like sfg0dfgaheow4$%#$T3g35^%h45@Kazaa just because I don't need anybody wondering why "mrpuffypants" really needs that college cam video forthe nth time...
A simple thing you could do is go for a quick job during your lunch break.
The only job that I could do during my lunch break would be whoring myself out. Actually, that might burn quite a few calories, plus make you some $$ on the side. Good idea!
But to be fair, that track is WORTH twice as much as everything else in the store. It really is one of the greatest songs in history and I'll be willing ot pay more for it.
BuyMusic really knows how to pick great artists to promote their service. Tommy Lee? Drummer for a hair band that later releases "Never a Dull Moment" as his solo album and sells VERY few albums. Yep...he's cool.
And the marketing, while clever, is almost and affront to Apple. "Music downloads for the rest of us" is practically lifted right out of Steve's throat, while "Get loaded" just doesn't make any sense.
This will be a small blip on the radar. Until MS integrates music buying with Windows we don't have anything to worry about. iTMS rules over all.
While it may be a bit underhanded remember that all you need to buy at an educational discount is to say that you're a student for the online store. There's no check of any records or such at all. If you want to buy in an Apple retail store, however, you will need a picture ID.
If you've lost your faith in movie-game ports go BUY Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic RIGHT NOW. This is literally one of the greatest games that I have ever played. How many games have made you yearn to play through it a second and third time before you're even half-finished with your first?
My advice: Don't rent. Buy! Now! Go!

Yeah! Gnarly! Let's go stab a bear with our boogie board! Wicked! NRA4EVA!
surfer wilderness seems to be an even more exclusive demo than VW owning Mac nuts (of which I'm a proud member)
The last plane I was one it was pretty useless to chat with others mostly because me and my buddies were back in coach. I don't know what it's like up in the clouds (first class) but talking on a cell phone is a pretty much non-issue with the engines cranked up right outside your window.
Thus, an iPod is a much better traveling companion!
Dear god I hope that somebody indicted will be a congresman's son or daughter off at college. That's exactly what it'll take for these senators and representatives to call for an "Inquiry" into the legality of filing all these lawsuits and hopefully get some of them overturned.
My prediction for the future of file swapping? It'll still be big, perhaps even bigger than now. If a company wants to make money then the first step is NOT to piss off people who are already appreciating the fruits of their labor. All people do then is get an even more renegade attitude about it and keep swapping away, anonomously this time
Some recent solutions to monitors always being on (at least in a lab of Macs) would be:
1) Apple Remote Desktop - In one click a teacher can lock every screen in a lab and put an end to kids fooling around with AIM while he/she's talking to the class
2) The new iMacs. Recently a university I read about installed 100 new iMacs in a lab. When the professor wants to talk to the class he just tells everybody to "turn their monitors" and all the students rotate the displays 90 degrees. It's a clever and simple way to keep college kids from fooling around on the Macs
1) walk to puch card writer wait to type up your punch cards 2) spend 15 minutes walking across campus to reader, submit job to perplexed operator 3) take output to quiet room to figure what the hell was wrong 4) Walk back across campus to the writer
Solution? Get an English degree and sleep for 4 years.
Even though I could just fire up Calc to figure out the answer to your mind-boggling math problem I'll just reven in knowing that I am one of the people you describe.
I could care less about VPC for the Mac being updated. What I'm really waiting for is the Entourage update that brings Exchange compatibality.
After that comes out I'd like to EOL OS 9 and Outlook 2001 at my university and move everybody over to OS X (finally). Plus, perhaps I can convince my boss-man to let me use a mac at work instead of a PC! (crosses fingers)
Apple's iTunes Music Store doesn't (to my knowledge) support Canada yet, so I can't yet take advantage of it.
No, it doesn't just yet, but word is that it should be soon.
Each damn country in the world has their own distribution policies so a company like Apple has to go to each one individually and negotiate with the reps there. It's a pain in the ass for sure but I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Also note that their profits dropped 98% since last quarter (I believe).
Sounds like somebody's not getting bonuses for Crash Bandicoot this year!
Keep submitting it through the iTMS suggestion system and they may actually listen :)
Why do I actually believe that, if any company does, Apple actually listens to user feedback?

It look like these were NOT intended to get out at all...every site that had them is gone, gone, gone!
Here's the word from the staff of QuakeCon regarding the issue: Message board thread
This country don't need campaign finance reform! We're perfectly happy being in the pocket of anybody with money!
How can anybody in the world take us seriously these days when we practically have he Coca-Cola logo branded on anything we touch?
Looks like the screens got pulled from the site. Now there's no mention of them anywhere at all.
In other news, John Ashcroft declared that linking to this site is illegal and will get you a trip to lovely Cuba!

I'm using my grand to buy 1/3 of my new G5.
Thanks Microsoft!

Gah! Don't the editors check stories anymore?
Who needs Adobe? I get all my Photoshop versions from KaZaa!
