***Note*** I'm not in "the industry" and have no real basis for the following assumption:
From what I've read and heard from friends, online reading, and print rags the videogame world is pretty much like every other industry, in that often it's not what you know but WHO you know.
That guy got hired at 17, but I'll bet that a lot of people at Ubi Soft knew him before hiring him. If you were a HR person would you ever take a 17-yr old's resume seriously for a big position without knowing him personally and his skill-set?
I say do like this: Make lots of friends, and use them to work your way higher and higher. Eventually you'll get a name for yourself and get somewhere big. Or you'll work for a company that makes games for Wal-Mart bargain bins. Either way you're working in the game industry!
After assing the movie I promptly went home and changed my entire home IP network to the 10.2.2.x subnet. The home FreeBSD server is now 10.2.2.2, so everytime I jump in to modify the firewall or whatever I can feel like I'm "hacking the matrix"...my life is pathetic:(
not, however, that the company makes you sign a weiver that says if you injure yourself while on the segway it's your own damn fault. Watch out for cracks in the pavement!
IMHO, one of the CG parts overall that I felt needed a lot more work was fabrics. During the Neo/Smith x 10^900000 fight a lot of spots made the fabric look like plastic. Convincing fabric can sometimes make even a very un-real looking character look very real
I think I got the reasoning behind the big dance, but the directors didn't explain it well enough, so it came off seeming like "let's put in a rave scene to attract the younger kids".
Linux nerds need to pull their heads out of their asses and simply realize that Linux needs to be retardedly easy to use! I don't care how many things it can do, If a user wants a new program they shouldn't have to worry about if they have KDE, GNOME, or some other system, let alone how it functions on their particular distro.
That's why Windows is better and will stick with their dominance. It works, so why switch? A windows box is a windows box is a windows box. It's easy to see that something will generally work because windows is basically the same across the board.
The entire Linux community has this Matrix-like mentality they they are the only ones who see a way out and they it is their duty to convert everybody else away from using the systems that they are already comfortable with. What if they already like Windows? Why should they switch at all if the only change is kernel recompilations and shaky compatibility.
Result: Windows will live long on the Desktop. Apple will keep innovating and stay the "luxury car" of computers. BSD/Linux will kick ass in servers. fin.
bib brother be damned. Microsoft Office for Mac OS X is great software hands down. I'd use good software even if it was called John Ashcroft's Super AIM SpySuite.
good point...we truly do need a lot more lawyers who are technically adept so that the future and present intellectual-property and tech-related cases can be argued by competent attorneys.
Look, I I can visit a web site and the business (Let's say Amazon) publicly posts their prices for anybody to see then you sure as hell can use them! If suddently using bots to do work are illegal then I'd wadger that every shell script that I write is an affront to US Laws. Rotating log files and all sorts of other "make my job easier so that I can play Quake" scripts are perfectly legal, so how the hell can it be questionable just to go to a site and record prices???
I still can't believe that, in a n effort to make the service look fresh and not stagnate, they aren't putting more new releases on the service. Wouldn't it be cool if they had some big artist's new CD avaliable on the ITMS 3 days before it was released on CD? And since they have DRM built in the record labels could be a little less worried about letting them go ahead with it.
And they don't have any White Stripes or the FREAKING BEATLES. c'mon!
why use.RIAA or.MPAA? just use.txt and if you're on *NIX then it really doesn't matter anyway. If you're on windows then just re-map your extensions. Poof! Who'd look at.txt files?
Better yet! Use.doc and let the RIAA battle MS somehow in a super Sunday Battle of the Heartless Corporations! Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
the BIOS protections are there just like on the PS2, on the GameCube, etc.
The video game companies do this so that comebody can't just write software and distribute it when it's not fully stable or works properly with the hardware. They do it to protect their hardware and software, along with ensuring that the consumer can run reliable software on the xbox, ps, etc...
And why the hell do people always see MS as a software company when it comes to the xbox? Sure they make lots of stuff, but so does sony! Nobody accuses sony of trying to "rape the profits" by selling their box at low cost then games for $50...they sell lots of products too, what's the difference?
My college (UTA, in Arlington) is really big on engineering and such. As a lowly MIS major I need to make some engineering friends ASAP and bring them to this.

It wasn't a rave....it was a Stomp! concert!
Nope, sorry, it won't

naw, they're not....they just administrate the government
Once again, I feel it's appropriate to slam MediaForce and their gang of sleazebag nerds that write the software that does this.
For shame....
I'd hit em with my car....that'll stop script kiddies on their iBook!

not, however, that that math was done by somebody who followed this guy's method as well in high school...
