Yeah, that's a great website. Just to show you a measure of how open TiVo is with the community, they host that forum for free on their servers but still don't have a great deal of editorial control over what is posted there. If somebody breaks their NDA then stuff gets taken down usually, but that's about the extent of the control they have over the forums.
Also, many TiVo staffers post there very frequently as conversations about TiVo and their policies arise on the forums.
The word from TiVo is that if they ever go bankrupt that they will send out a "unlock" signal to all of their boxes which will allow them to do DVR functions, obviously w/out service updates or guide info from TiVo.
You could do things like pausing and rewinding live TV and setting manual recordings, but nothing like "Season Passes" would be avaliable.
As much as people speculate that TiVo is going under (about as much as the rumors that Apple will fail as well) they seem to be a company with well-defined goals and a good marketing plan.
TiVo's now just as recognizable as "Xeroxing" a document, or buying some "Kleenex". Now that they've entered the lexicon for a large part of the world I think they will have tremendous staying power.
Also, they've treaded lightly in regard to their new "Home media option," which allows people to share TV shows across a home network, and play pictures and music on their TiVo's. A careful use of copyright protection has, so far, kept them out of the legal wranglings that SonicBlue had to face the minute that every major media company in the world sued them after the ReplayTV product announcement.
Others reprogram their video cards to hide the elaborate textured walls in a game. All that is left is a wire-frame outline, allowing a player to see through walls and track those hiding behind them.
If you can reprogram your video card then you wouldn't even HAVE to cheat.

Well, but this is all about what Apple is doing with their iApps:
Wanna make a movie? iMovie Read your mail? Mail Chat? iChat
I like this approach a lot better than a bloated program that has 50 features I never use. When I just want to read email and look at my calendar I just open up Mail and iCal. Done simply and effectively.
Monkey Island is my all-time favorite series of games...I remember thinking about how to beat LeChuck in my dreams and then finding the "second biggest monkey head I'd ever seen" on the island.
The jokes were clean for a 7-10 year old and I had a great time playing them with my dad. Even though the last two were a little bit lacking, the first 3 were incredible and fun for hours and hours on end.
I still hear that theme in my head occasionally...possibly one of the best themes ever written for a game...and we can't forget the groundbreaking SCUMM system!
...understand electrisity. Doing expiriemtns will... ...other than the enertainment of a hands on expiriemnt... Somehow, I'm not a teacher because I can't do it.
But anyway, I know some good spelling books you can get if you want to become a teacher;)
....but changing over from a commercial vendor to open-source always carries with it a good deal of costs in converting user data, systems, admin training, etc.
Still, I'm going to call my people in Austin to support it.
I don't doubt that the screen is great and all, but right now I'm home from spring break working on my dad's 17" iMac...I can't even picture a laptop with a screen this big that could ever be lifted or have more than 8 minutes of battery life. All I have is my 12.1" iBook, and it does it for me quite well.
A possible downside ti this is that if the person reads the story 10-20 minutes before it hits the front page they may simply read the linked page and go back to work/home/school without posting.
Part of the fun now is that you try to read then immediately post an insightful or funny comment spur of the moment, but not letting people post quickly could just make them lazy, as in "I already read it, why post and not get a response for another 10-20 minutes?"
But it's probably going to be released with version 4.0 of their software, which is slated for an early April release
kinda takes the sole out of the car, eh?

Overall, a very open community and company.

I don't know about everybody else, but all I need to get up in the morning is the sweet, caressing sound of Victoria (High Quality) in my ear.
I think not....buying a Kenny G album would rip MY heart out

until they get posted to the front page of /.
Score another one for the USA!
Somebody needs to overclock their server, or at least install a LCD screen on it that will blink "Warning! Meltdown! /.!"
