I'd imagine the kernel developers are going to be rather pissed about this. Donating time and efforts to the open comunity only to have some big-nog coporate to rape the very community that built it.
Just curious, does anyone know if the AGP / PCI buses on these babies are 64bit? It seems to me that they are just the same old slots as the older motherboards. Wouldnt a true 64bit mobo require a radically different AGP/PCI slots in order to take advantage of the added bus width?
My website www.blackapology.com has been sitting in google at the third spot for a while now. Last night, I kid ye not, it dissappeared completely, I emailed google about this, but have yet to hear a response. This morning however, its back in the search again.
what is more... this same bug appears to affect my site..
You cant have you're gentoo box optimised very well, on my gentoo box open office loads in approximately 3-4 seconds. Adimitedly im running a dual Athlon MP & 1.4ghz.
Other startup times include gimp , ~3 seconds konqueror ~1 second...
put gentoo on that dualie G5 though it will piss all over OSX and my dual Athlon MP, for sure
I can confirm that after much rummaging around on the net, where that code comes from.
It comes from an older version of CrystalSpace. There is no two ways about it this code is under lgpl.
The version of crystal space I looked at was downloaded from sourceforge
cs94_001.tar.gz being the filename.
Its not in the more recent releases of crystal space since they phased part of the tree out in favour of a newer model. Nonetheless it is still there.
Im going to be sifting through the source code further to see what else I can find. But if this is the case then someones got a few obligations to perform !
funnilly enough, the directory in the source tree for half life 2's havok engine
src_main/ivp/havana/havok/hk_math/odesolve.cpp: modify it under the terms of the GNU Library General Public src_main/ivp/havana/havok/hk_math/odesolve .cpp: MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. See the GNU src_main/ivp/havana/havok/hk_math/odesolve.cp p: You should have received a copy of the GNU Library General Public
I have downloaded the code and taken a quick peek, It does indeed seem to be legitimate. More disturbing though is , a simple grep through the code tree reveals that this leaked source tree contains gpl'd code.
files in these directories contain such code for example./ivp/havana/havok/hk_math/./utils/vmpi/mysql/include/
It would take someone a little more clued up than I to verify that this code is actually used in a binary release.
I have often wondered why games on the PC usually have to be installed to HD and clutter it up!. It makes so much more sense to be able to bypass your desktop and the rest of it.
The Amiga could do this years ago, and it usually meant you could get the best performance out of the machine.
I suppose the reason it became difficult to do this on the PC was due to the proprietary nature of the Micro$oft operating system.. kinda makes it difficult to ship it on cd with a game!. The Amiga never had this issue since everything it needed was on Rom. Linux could make self booting games a reality again, this is a good thing and potentially it could make windows only games a thing of the past, since a self booting CD is os independant.
I understand that ion engines have pretty slow acceleration, so how long is it going to take this thing to reach its destination? The moon is not really that far away in the whole scheme of things, would it not be quicker to use a conventional engine ?
.. That article sounds a bit too good to be true, I'd like to see their sources. Some of those figures seem to be plucked from thin air. They would need some serious cooling going on at those speeds...
Interesting to note though, the Netcraft article seems to imply that the largest percentage of these switches are through myhosting.com. Who; according to Netcraft are the biggest ISP Hosting provider.
myhosting.com only seem to support one platform Microsoft.. So it stands to reason, as myhosting.com continue to grow it will continue to increase the share of microsoft servers.
Another point to note, is that this 5% swap is based on hostnames and not physical machines running the operating system.
You can tell this person has a penchant for writing. I found this article quite mesmeriseing, In fact I read it several times as his words drifted off the screen with ease.
Open Source or Closed Source, its just as easy to write insecure software, either way.
The point is, that with open source you can see just how insecure or secure a particular product is by looking at the code.
Open source is inherently no more secure than closed source software. The difference is people like "Peter Gutmann" can see what is wrong and be at the ready with suggestions how to fix it.
mod this guy up, I was extremely surprised when I read the letter , that neither Linus or Alan mentionioned their role, and its importance.
You are absolutely right your average joe has no idea who these people are, let alone what Open Source is all about. They should reccommend reading Rebel Code by Glynn Moody!
A Freind of mine emailed his local Green Party MEP regarding this issue, she was surprisingly well versed in the matter. If anyone else wants to have a look/send a mail... heres her website Jean Lambert
What operating system will they be running on these things? This is not a troll, I'm geniunely concerned to know if they will be wasting these lovely resources on OSX ? (Which is not truly 64bit)
Correct me if i'm wrong but dont most Radio transmission technologies use some form of magnetic induction in order to achieve their goal. Last i heard passing electricity through a coil produces a magnetic field. Whats new here?

just my thoughts...
Someone has posted some stomach churning pictures right on the main page of beos max...
The trouble is if you have a knowledge base like that, you might as well just sit back and watch all the holes get closed up.
;)
Unless of course , you patent the holes
