That is not the only use. Guess you're a fucking idiot, too, huh?

Slashdot is now yelling at me for using too many caps, so I'm going to keep type till I can lower the ration of uppercase to lowercase letters in this post.
Yeah right. And the FreeBSD release team reserves the right to change anything under that directory at any point prior to the official announcement. They done it in the past. And thanks to Slashdot jumping the gun back then, too, some people ended up downloading bad code.
IT IS NOT OFFICIAL TILL THE RELEASE TEAM SAYS IT IS.
Excuse my yelling, but the release team has been over this with Slashdot time and time again.
if it's not modified, then the source code is already available elsewhere.
Which is irrelevent. They're still required to distribute the source code.
Also, vlc, grub, and khtml are modified for use in SkyOS. Having said that, the SkyOS developers have promised to make the source available for SkyOS 5.0 when it's complete, which is good enough for me.
If NVidia released their specs, not only would ATI be able to get some insight out of it, but other companies who aren't quite so advanced (like S3) could simply read the spec and skip a very significant portion of the design process for their next card.
Bull. When did nVidia purchase all the 3Dfx intellectual property? And how many generations of cards passed before they were able to incorporate this technology into their own line of cards? It's not like ATI or S3 could just grab the specs and have a competing product using that IP in any sort of competitive time frame.
That's odd. I used 5.1 back when it was first released. I built, from the ports tree, well over 250 hundred packages, including KDE, gnome, mozilla, MozillaFirebird, mplayer, ffmpeg, quake2forge, videolan, jdk13, openoffice, abiword, and many others.
Care to tell us what you were unable to build from the ports tree?
If you get hit with a 60 knot headwind (not uncommon over Antarctica I imagine) your speed over ground suddenly becomes 80 knots. That takes a chunk out of your range, don't you think?
Then maybe the f*cking idiot should have taken that into account when he planned his little trip.
What *graphics* do you see when X isn't running? That's right. TTY is for system management tasks, not for entertainment. When you want to entertain - you run your desktop. When you are not local - you run it remotely. And now it will have sound.
Why in the world should I start up X just to listen to play an mp3? Hell, I can already use esd to pipe an mp3 from one computer (without X) to another (without X). Thanks, but one more sound server is something we don't need.
They're being paid by the hour (and quite well, $42-$300 according to the article) and the government wants to make sure they're actually working while they're getting paid.
And how does this make sure they're doing the work? All it does is make sure they're driving around.
They do not appear to have modified busybox (as far as I can tell). They have included a number of GNU utilities (and claim that they are unmodified and, hence, don't have to distribute the source).
Hey Bruce, do you know if anyone is doing anything about these violators?
Off the top of my head they've modified GRUB, VideoLan, and KHTML and aren't distributing the source code or including a written offer for the source code in the distribution.

FreeBSD 4.9 Released

You clearly don't get what free software is all about.
On the contrary, it's you and RMS that don't understand the definition of the word "free".
GPL software != free software.
GPL software == software with huge limitations on how it can be used.
Even the BSD license has limitations, but at least they're much "freer".
You have a naive understanding of how the world works my friend. Can you truly be free when there is no system in place to protect your rights? No! Would you consider yourself free if there were no laws?
Uh, we're talking about software, not human rights and freedoms. Till you manage to get that through your head, there really isn't any point in continuing this discussion.

That doesn't change the actual resolution, just the displayed resolution. You still have a desktop of the same physical size.
However, xrandr does do what the parent poster wants.
Dinivin
That's strange. I've never had a problem grabbing the corner of an mplayer video window and resizing it as needed/desired.

As of 8:53 AM EST, the annoucement page does not have it listed and the
freebsd-announce mailing list has not mentioned it.
This means that it is not yet released.
Dinivin
Does ATI's website list a difference between the Mobility 9200 and the Mobility 9000?
Dinivin
It's not HPs fault that Joe Q. Public is an idiot.
Dinivin
But 9000 and 9200 are *different* model numbers!
And the Mobility Radeon 9200 is clearly a different model as well. So what's the problem?
Dinivin
Mind you, ATI didn't claim that the chip was a 9200. It claimed the chip was a Radeon Mobility 9200. Sounds like a different product to me.
Dinivin
Of course I read that. It doesn't change the fact that we have no idea if his intentions were malicious.
You people really are gullible.
Dinivin
The important thing is that his intentions weren't malicious.
What makes you think that? Just because that's what he said? Hah!
Dinivin
Wow, are you really that stupid?

Considering XFree86 ships with support for nVidia cards, what's the big deal?
Dinivin
If NVidia released their specs, not only would ATI be able to get some insight out of it, but other companies who aren't quite so advanced (like S3) could simply read the spec and skip a very significant portion of the design process for their next card.

This way an application can run on a computer at the other end of your building but it's sound output is routed through your machines sound card...
Much like esd and arts already do. Great, they've just reinvented the wheel.

Dinivin
However, the fact remains that no one cares what the dictionary says.
It might be more accurate to say that no developer cares what the dictionary says. Many users, however, do.
Dinivin
