    That doesn't change the actual resolution, just the displayed resolution. You still have a desktop of the same physical size.

    However, xrandr does do what the parent poster wants.

    Yeah right. And the FreeBSD release team reserves the right to change anything under that directory at any point prior to the official announcement. They done it in the past. And thanks to Slashdot jumping the gun back then, too, some people ended up downloading bad code.

    IT IS NOT OFFICIAL TILL THE RELEASE TEAM SAYS IT IS.

    Excuse my yelling, but the release team has been over this with Slashdot time and time again.

    This means that it is not yet released.

    But 9000 and 9200 are *different* model numbers!

    And the Mobility Radeon 9200 is clearly a different model as well. So what's the problem?

    Mind you, ATI didn't claim that the chip was a 9200. It claimed the chip was a Radeon Mobility 9200. Sounds like a different product to me.

    if it's not modified, then the source code is already available elsewhere.

    Which is irrelevent. They're still required to distribute the source code.

    Also, vlc, grub, and khtml are modified for use in SkyOS. Having said that, the SkyOS developers have promised to make the source available for SkyOS 5.0 when it's complete, which is good enough for me.

    If NVidia released their specs, not only would ATI be able to get some insight out of it, but other companies who aren't quite so advanced (like S3) could simply read the spec and skip a very significant portion of the design process for their next card.

    Bull. When did nVidia purchase all the 3Dfx intellectual property? And how many generations of cards passed before they were able to incorporate this technology into their own line of cards? It's not like ATI or S3 could just grab the specs and have a competing product using that IP in any sort of competitive time frame.

    That's odd. I used 5.1 back when it was first released. I built, from the ports tree, well over 250 hundred packages, including KDE, gnome, mozilla, MozillaFirebird, mplayer, ffmpeg, quake2forge, videolan, jdk13, openoffice, abiword, and many others.

    Care to tell us what you were unable to build from the ports tree?

    If you get hit with a 60 knot headwind (not uncommon over Antarctica I imagine) your speed over ground suddenly becomes 80 knots. That takes a chunk out of your range, don't you think?

    What *graphics* do you see when X isn't running? That's right. TTY is for system management tasks, not for entertainment. When you want to entertain - you run your desktop. When you are not local - you run it remotely. And now it will have sound.

    Why in the world should I start up X just to listen to play an mp3? Hell, I can already use esd to pipe an mp3 from one computer (without X) to another (without X). Thanks, but one more sound server is something we don't need.

    They do not appear to have modified busybox (as far as I can tell). They have included a number of GNU utilities (and claim that they are unmodified and, hence, don't have to distribute the source).

    Hey Bruce, do you know if anyone is doing anything about these violators?

    Off the top of my head they've modified GRUB, VideoLan, and KHTML and aren't distributing the source code or including a written offer for the source code in the distribution.

    On the contrary, it's you and RMS that don't understand the definition of the word "free".

    GPL software != free software.

    GPL software == software with huge limitations on how it can be used.

    Even the BSD license has limitations, but at least they're much "freer".
