in a private school, they can decided who gets in and who does not get in. they also have the right to get rid of any kid they deem to not be up to snuff. public education cannot do either of these things.

  6. Re:Excellent. on NASA Eyes Cash Prizes Of Its Own · · Score: 1

I did not say that private schools don't work. in fact they do work, the problem is that they will not work if run just like public education because in public education, you get what you get and can not get rid of them.

private schools can dump kids that are under performing and can decided not to accept children that are stupid. Public education cannot and must deal with children with special needs.

well, since these companies get patents on this equipment which gives them a monopoly on the access the tech allows for 15 years, I think that is a pretty good incentive.

you can't privatize education. the law says that every person in the US has the right to an education in the least restrictive environment. a private institution does not need to follow these laws.

yes, this is exactly how research on high tech pie in the sky stuff like next generation space vehicles should be done.

then all NASA needs to do is sit back and let private companies do the engineering which means that they can send the rest of the ash over to propulsion research.

this works well because it helps mitigate the investments made by companies that win and the recognition of the win helps future sales of the products based on the new tech.

Roddenberry could not get the franchise out of the 1960s though. the first 3 seasons of TNG were really lame in retrospect to what the series became. Berman did some good stuff in modernizing the franchise, but now he has basically let it get stale.

actually, that is the second Holodeck moriarity episode. the one they are referring to is when Jordy and Data create Moriarity.

the one where they deal with Barkly and his holo-adiction is good as well, and that one where Riker is lead to believe he is captain of the enterprise, then thinks he has been captured by the romulans, then finds out that it is actually some fake looking alien child in a cave set up by its mother for its entertainment is kinda ok.

DS9 is less hoaky than TNG, but then TNG got less hoaky after Rodenberry died, so that is probably the reason.

DS9 also had a better lead off than TNG, he first 3 seasons were god where the first 3 seasons of TNG were cheap sets, bad music, and weird camera shots.

Voyager just took the PCness of TNG to an entirly new level and it pissed me off.

Enterprise lost its way in he first season, and no that the 3rd season is over, I actually like what I saw. there might actually be a movie to come out of it like the birth of the federation or something since the event of the first federation conference happens just outside the traditional 7 year span of the shows.

the visceralness of the episodes has increased, it will be interesting to see what happens next season..something weird happened at the end of last season, and history got changed to where some weird aliens took power during WW2 and kept the war going so humanity could not develop as it did. at least, that is what I surmised from what I saw in the last episode
