    Where does the money come from for BBC Canada (tv station on digital cable/sat., I can't see the british paying for that, but the Federal Gov. over here wouldn't likely pay for it either.

    The permissions that are setup are a bit different from your standard unix system. A regular user can write to /Applications for instance. Which is a good thing, because the best applications are usually those which install by just dragging them there. But if you want to mess around with /System you better sudo or su yourself first.

    I have to agree on a basic point that wxWindows is better than plain Win32 api, or GTK. I tried using GTK before and found it difficult. I know the Win32 api however and find it great in general. But I now develop on the mac, and I don't think I would want to go back to C++ gui development.

    My first experience with stuffit expander 7 was a very slow one compared to the previous version (that came with Jagwyre). So I downgrades first chance.

    You shouldn't be using zip files on mac in general unless it is some sort of code or something. Malicious code would require a specific target platform of the mac to do anything substantial, and being that nobody in their right mind would create zip files for mac, i don't see much problem.

    I must ask a few things. First how do you pronounce 'Fukuoka'? The first 4 letters seem to stick out.

    Where does the 'small town' come from? I live in London, Ontario, Canada. It is what I consider a medium sized city of 330k people. So it is weird for me to see small town being 1 million people. I am thinking of going to a small city (90k ppl) when I move on.

    Ok... let me see - I have a linksys v.2 baby connecting my ibook and my desktop pc. I made the SSID not broadcast, which I am sure is about as effective as WEP, which I don't have on. How do I secure this network? I keep seeing things saying how bad WEP is, but no real solutions to the problem.

    In this case the ice doesn't shrink, it melts. Conversion from one form to another. The metal doesn't do that, it maintains the same amount of material (assuming I read it correctly)

    Where do you live? In ontario at least a traffic offense would be a provincial matter, which by definition a criminal offense is federal only.

    Agreed, ICQ can take up 25%+ of your cpu, Internet Explorer Download Manager will take up 20%, Chimera will eat 30%, top will take 10% as a monitoring fee, and your mouse cursor moving will take up 10% leaving 5% for remaining programs and visual effects.

    (o/t) The 1000 year thing - I highly doubt that the empire that is the United States will even be around in another thousand years. All states of greed and corruption will die eventually. Even if it remains the United States it must be in a different form. More like a world government will be there then (hopefully a good one)

    I must agree. I have seen one movie on an IMAX up in Hull, QB once. I loved it. Goto Canada's Wonderland in Toronto - I hate the roller coasters. Of course I tended to get motion sick once in Quake 3 Fortress after not playing for a while. Had to turn off the bobbing :-)

    The geforce4mx has no pixel shaders? If I am not mistaken even my first generation radeon has some. I imagine even the mobile radeon i have on my ibook has them.

    I sure don't mind it shipping on new computers from Dell, but requiring a nvidia card for certain things? That is rediculous. I use an ATI Radeon (aging one mind you) and would like to see some real compatibility between them!

    I think they missed out - God probably patented it, copyrighted it and made it a trademark before any of them were born. Now that the patent and copyright has run out (5 billion years out...) they are public domain!!!
