...I thought Microsoft was responsible for this. I mean, we blame "M$" when people don't run antivirus software and open infected e-mails. How about some consistency, friend?
I've never seen such a blatant self-promoting assclown in my entire Slashdot life. Is there some sort of e-mail blacklist to filter out these kind of "article" submissions?
The "starving artist" is a myth, at least among those owned by the RIAA. Sure, Lars Ulrich and the like cry the blues enough, but the only true "starving artists" are either unsigned, or affiliated with independent labels.
They changed the voice of the Emperor (when communicating with Vader) to be consistent with the actor who played him in ROTJ. They also changed the lines so that the less-observant could understand the story more easily. It was a bit disappointing.
"with over 16 million downloads and countless CD installations
The interesting this about these numbers is that no one can put a spin on this."
But as an earlier post mentioned, those kinds of metrics are totally invalid. The 16M downloads could span multiple versions by the same person, and how does one measure "countless" CD installations?
So how could you put spin on these figures, or make invalid claims based on them, when the figures themselves are absolute bunk?
Why is it that whenever a story about Linux desktop application suites comes up, they always bring up OpenOffice and StarOffice? Are there not other good examples they can use?
I don't mean to bait flame here, but aside from OpenOffice and StarOffice (which essentially do the same thing), what other good, solid business apps are available for Linux? All I ever hear about are the same two.

"Corporations, their money, and their slaves will continue to reshape society via their direct control over multiple media outlets (solidified TV/news, radio, Internet) not the public. Grass-roots campaigns have always existed on the fringe and while their causes are noble the masses love to be sheep while thinking they aren't."

You know, by EVIL CORPORATIONS!! Patents and Copyrights are the tools of the DEVIL that THE MAN uses to keep the little guy down! This story is absolute bunk!!
We all know the difference. Copyright infringement is still illegal. If you're going to reply to the parent to justify copyright infringement, please use something other than the tired and irrelevant "copyright infringement is not the same as stealing" argument.
What Slashbots say they want and what they actually want are often very different, and often contradictory.
They insist that the GPL is a valid lisense and (rightfully) insist that it be respected and enforced. However they sing a very different tune (no pun intended) when it comes to copyrighted music.
The average Slashbot just doesn't want to pay for music, and will make any (other) argument to justify violating copyright law.
...about the '97 release was that horrible sequence with Han and Jabba in EP4. What were they thinking?
In EP6, Jabba looked huge, and disgusting... like he was supposed to be. For some reason he didn't look either huge or disgusting, or particularly intimidating either.
And hell, they even had Han repeating lines from the Greedo scene ("Hey, even I get boarded sometimes"). Were they even trying??
I thought the point of the "ghost" was to show the Jedi at (presumably) the latest point in their life they were "good".
If that's the case (and maybe it's not), isn't the importance of Anakin Skywalker's redemption somewhat diminished if his apparition doesn't really reflect the fact that he abandoned the Dark Side at the end?
This is probably a debate for bigger Star Wars nerds than I, but I thought I should at least throw that out to the discussion.
"Hopefully this will cut down on vendor lock-in and lure people from using Microsoft Office."
I doubt that a lot of people will abandon what has been hammered into them for years in favor of an open standard. There's not a lot of perceived value in switching.... yet!
Athlon 3800+ != 3.8GHz
Athlon 4000+ != 4GHz
I suggest you stop promoting something you don't understand. Educate yourself or you will sound like fanboy.
on my TV???
Sweet! What will they think of next!?

It would seem that this person has a history of using Slashdot as a vehicle to increase traffic to his website, presumably to generate ad revenue.
IMHO this is abuse of Slashdot's popularity, and thus his accounts (and any new ones created with his e-mail address) should be pulled.

You win today's "No Shit!" award.
But what about a patched Windows system vs. and unpatched Linux system?

It's pretty sad that you are apparently going let your hatred of Microsoft diminish the extraordinary event unfolding before your very eyes.
Why not put aside your (in the grand scheme of things) petty gripes and try to appreciate history being made?
Are they nuts?? That craft wasn't built to support the weight of John Madden!!
If I were a subscriber who paid to eliminate the ads, I'd be pretty irked at still having to put up with the ones disguised as news articles.
