I guess I like this iteration of The Doctor the most since he's the first one I ever saw.
I get BBCAmerica. Unfortunately, Doctor Who airs while I'm at work, and its in the digital band so I can't use my PC to "tivo" it. Using the VCR to record it is so "90s".
Because 'Starving Corporate Executive' is an oxymoron.
Then again, I get your point. Hopefully the kids that are exposed to this propaganda will remember seeing their favorite 'starving artist' on MTV Cribs talking about their 7 Bentlys and their 14000 sq ft beach house. All while displaying their 'bling' in full effect.
So, any special interest group gets to push their morals and agendas on our kids? In their classrooms? It's one thing to transmit their propaganda over the TV and radio, but its another to hold the kids captive and force them to listen/participate in such a way.
Hopefully, parents will be given the option of opting their children out of such activities. If not, let's hope one of these kids has lawyers for parents.
What next? The Right-To-Lifers get to stage a school "assignment" that's really just preaching the evils of abortion? The Brady Bill nuts get to do the same preaching the evils of firearms? Where does it stop?
Hey - why stop there? Let's get Coca-Cola to come in and "teach" how their product is superior to Pepsi. And let's get Dunlop to come in and teach how their tires are superior to Michelins.
I'm with you on this. The reason I stuck with RR instead of jumping to SBC was thus:
1) No bandwidth cap 2) SBC sucks 3) SBC requires a contract 4) SBC sucks
SBC was offering me DSL at 1/2 what RR charges. When I asked about usage caps, they didn't deny it. I told them I'd stick with RR.
Then again, TWC's T&Cs *do* say they can amend them at any time without notice (I believe) which would allow them to change the T&Cs to include a usage cap and that continuing to use RR would mean that you'd accepted the new T&Cs, blocking any lawsuit.
Unfortunately, the RIAA would likely never let this happen. Nor would the bands.
Red Hot Chilipeppers (and some others) have voiced concerns that consumers shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose which songs they purchase. They want us to sit through 9+ horrific tracks so we can listen to the single good song that gets radio airplay.
And RHCP should rightly be concerned. The last good album they put out was "Mother's Milk". Don't get me wrong, I love RHCP just their new stuff is crap.
I would *really* liket to see kiosks like you describe. I just don't see it ever happening.
I'd like to see someone who'se sharing freely-distributed indy music -- like music thats freely distributed on the band's webpage such as is the case with Cruiserweight (after getting the band's ok) get hit by the RIAA.
I mean, afterall they're "protecting the band's interest".
I'd really like to see the backlash this would cause.
Anything less than the best will negatively affect the quality or quantity of your work.
But, 'best' is a relative term. For me, its all about the key action. The faster the keys return to rest, the faster I can type. Everything else from there is just icing.
Sorry guy, I subscribe to the belief that as long as the keys are loud, the keyboard doesn't feel like butter, and it's cheap - its the keyboard for me. I personally like the old-ass, loud Dell PS2 keyboards. The ones they have now (even moreso the USB ones) are just crap.
Then again, I never saw the need for 4:1 or 5:1 surround-sound on a PC either or any computer case that cost more than $30. The only exception is the new Alienware that actually looks like an alien head, and only because it looks cool. Too bad you can't buy just the case.
Call me cheap, but I'd rather spend the $$ on a HDD, some RAM, a CDRW/DVD+RW or a kick-ass video card (shrugs).
know some of them are not reputable at all (due to spamming) however these guys seem to know what they are doing, and yet managed to effectively attack our mail and web servers, as well as doing some things I would not do to the TLD servers.
My take is, if they knew what they were doing, it wouldn't have come to this. Your company approached them and asked them to make adjustments. They chose to ignore you -- their customer. Someone who knows what they're doing doesn't ignore their customer.
They trolled your site and pulled information out to sell their services to your customers. Your CTO cut them off and they proceeded to beyotch to your mutual customers.
Yeah, sounds like a classy group of people.
They may otherwise be good, but technical exptertise is no grounds for arrogance.
I say find a new service and put into the contract strict guidelines as to what your company wants. I imagine whoever wrote your contract with them did this in the first place. Obviously, it wasn't strict enough. I guess they left out the part about using your system to determine who your customers are, so they could sell their services to them as well as overburdening of your resources.
If not, thats grounds for contract termination as well as a lawsuit.
A minute late three times and you get a reprimand? What is this, gradeschool?
Last Tuesday (not yesterday) I was supposed to be at work at 6AM for copyout. My alarm never went off, so I woke up at 6. I got to work 90 minutes late (I'd called and left a msg for my boss telling her I had to shower and would be in ASAP.
Not so much as a stern talking to when I got there. Sure, I had to stay late but my regular work days (aside from copyout) are 7-4 anyway.
This was the first time I've *ever* been late to a job, and I've been working since I was 17 (14 years now).
My question to those in a situation similar to the subject author's: What do your employers have to say if you have kids and have to 1) drop them off at daycare or school, or 2) have sick kids that require attending to before you leave? Are they such hard-asses that they'll ride you for taking care of family?
If so, I'd suggest finding another job. We're all supposed to be adults, and should be capable of policing ourselves.
The only time something like this should be done is if you're working in a call center.
1001 HP Two clutches 7 speed tranny 0-186mph in 14 seconds
Then there's the US' own street-legal Saleen S7 with a pricetag over $400,000.
Fast Facts:
500 HP *Ford* Motor Hand built to owner dimensions Overall height of 41" 0-60 in under 4 seconds (don't list a specific 3.whatever) Top speed over 200mph
to get crap like this fixed is to publish the personal information of high government officials. And their immediate families.
Publish all the information for Ashcroft, the Prez and Vice Prez, Speaker of the House, the Supreme Court justices. Hell, all of the Congressmen/women on both sides of the camps.
While we're at it, publish the info of all the high-rollers that line the pockets of said Congressmen/women.
Then, and only then, will they take notice and (hopefully) take measures to make it more difficult to steal one's identity.
Fox movie?
Hammer films?
I missed these. Info??
And that would be Tom Baker. 'Nuff said.

This is just stupid.
I could blow $15,000 in a single afternoon at any electronics store.
Sure, it might take me two days to set everything up, but any self-respecting geek could master this task by themselves.
It can't find Bin Laden anywhere either!
Nope. No usage cap info has been published, from what I can tell.
If they were capping at 100GB/mo, would I care? It depends on how much I'm using. If I'm transferring more than 100GB/mo, then I'd be concerned.
Somehow, I doubt I'm generating that much traffic.

I mean, we've got a couple of large-size rodents:
Darl McBride
Cary Sherman
They're at least 5'8" apiece, right?

Exactly. I used headphones. *Good* headphones.
As for the case, I got an el-cheapo Metis Wisdom for something like $25. Removable mobo tray, front USB, 300w PSU, etc.
Not a single burr in any of the metal.

I'm sorry, but these are the biggest pieces of shit ever made.
We threw buckets of these things away when I worked at BMC.
It's based on TSR's old module by the same name.
Here, here!
I agree. We could collectively 'work' for Slashdot as independant agents.
Hell, I'd do it for some free t-shirts.

As much as I hate LinkSys, they actually have a wireless 802.11b net camera with a built-in webserver. Supports 4 connections
See it here.
..actually typed a wrong address and seen what Verisign is throwing up?
I just did. I don't see what the fuss is.

Persoanlly, I'd rather have a 1970 Dodge Challenger 340.
Or better yet, a 1971 Dodge Demon 340.
But thats just me.
100 CD spindle of Duramax 48X 700MB CD-R media @ WalMart (actually burns at 52x on my LiteOn 52x24x52): $28.
That's $0.28/CD.
The media is ugly (black and grey) but works. Just check the spindle to make sure the media's not cracked. I failed to and the 1st 3 CDs were busted.
And, it supports overburn. I backed up my KISS Boxed Set CDs to this media. Each CD is above 80 minutes of music.
