  4. Raid 5 Solution on Do You Need More Space for Your Media Needs? · · Score: 1

I've been considering something similar myself. After trying a few small arrays, I've decided to work towards a RAID 5 Solution.

With eight 160GB drives on a HighPoint 454 RAID 5 controller you would have access to just over 1TB (1024^4 Bytes) after Formatting.

I've ssen Maxtor 7200 RPM, 8MB buffer, ATA133 drives going for less than $90 after mail in rebates. With the controller your looking at under a grand, and there's nothing stopping you from buying drives bigger than 160GB.

And of course, since it's RAID 5, the parity will keep you from losing your data if you have a single drive failure (If you can, keep a spare handy)

    Best of luck!

If you figure it a pulling 8 amps at 120V AC RMS, your 300 wat PS is actually drawing 960 Watts off the line.

Second, If you are innocent, do everything you can to have this pursued to it's ugly end. The evidence they have is circumstantial, so I wouldn't expect this to come to charges or conviction. Perhaps it can be brought to a point where they will drop it all together, once/if they realize how stupid this accusation is.

He marker checked it, and looked for the silouette by holding it to a nearby computer monitor. It looked ok and change was made. At the end of the night, however when the lights were on and we were cleaning up, he got a better look at it as he counted out his drawer. The paper was a shade lighter than normal, the ink of the black seal on the left had run a little, and the silouette wasn't complete. but aside from that it was an immaculate copy. One laptop in particular would list "BADBADBAD" in every field of the battery info window under Windows. After a long search, my friend found a site (URL unknown) that listed a likely cause of this as the DC to DC converter board that each battery connects to when inserted. A continued search found replacement converters at less than half of IBM's replacement part price. Upon swapping the new converter in, the battery worked flawlessly. As a trial, we placed the new converter into each of the other laptops, and were surprised that all but one began working properly.
