    I see the (or at least one) office for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office every day I metro in to DC. I think one day I'll get off their and ask to speak to someone. Maybe thier is some master plan for it all that we just don't see.

    And if their is not I'm going to file a patant for "the method of counting that refers to the electrical states of a circut ie On of Off or 1 & 0 to comunicate with a eletronic task veriable machine or 'computer' "

    If I understand things correctly NASA has another spaced based telescope for infrared The Space Infrared Telescope Facility, which is the is the fourth and final component of NASA's Great Observatories Program, which includes the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory.
    I think this cry for the rescue of Hubble is more or less nostalgia for the past. Times change astronomy gets better and the tools get better. I have read many articles that talk about different techniques for lessening the effects of atmospheric distortion.

    Hey we'll have none of rational though in the land of tinfoil hats!

    Seriously, my friends and I were at Arlington Cemetery and someone bought a postcard and got a counterfeit 5 dollar bill back for change. This was at a US Park. I think many people who are upset with the preventative measure haven't gotten screwed out of money. In case you don't know if, when you turn the funny money, you don't get real money back and if you try to pass it off on someone else you just as guilty as the maker.

    I have no problem with this protection. If you have a legitimate reason for printing out money take it up with The Government or the Manufacturer.

    So why hasn't Microsoft gone after support.mycrowsoft.com? /Microfoft Problem solved, all you /.'ers pay no attention two the two indivuduales approaching the Domain holders house. You haven't seen anything, now if you would all step over here and look at this pen light.

    I don't like Microsoft any more than the next /.'er but I can't fault them for this.

    If this works out, it's not that bad. It could end up being like Hurricane season on the east coast. People don't evacuate for just because it's hurricane season or board up there windows, but they do (or should) make sure they have the supplies they need just in case.

    I was afraid when I took my job in DC that they would not hire me if they found out about my horrible secret. I, ladies and gentlemen, lived in Florida and voted in the 2000 presidential election.

    (My poll location was on campus and we didn't have any problems)

    I think it is a bizarre US issue that driving is somehow a god-given right

    You have no idea how true you are. I lived in Florida for most of my life, it is the retirement state more or less. Anytime someone talks about limiting driving by the elderly it hits the fan. You hear how it will "limit my freedom" or "limit my independence" etc. Many people don't realize that driving is a privilege not a right!

    I respect CA allot for doing this, what seems to be a no-brainer. The fact that this law is upsetting scares me to death.

    In my courts class in college we learned that all laws are made extremely broad by the legislature and are meant to be narrowed and refined by the courts.

    So yeah it probably is broad, butit will get more clear as it goes through the court system.

    Thats differnt, Yahoo doesn't have a hmmm "narrow demographic" like /. they have all kinds of people that use their service therefore they don't have targetted adds, so it's almost inevitable that the adds don't intrest anyone and more or less annoy everyone.

    I disagree. I would rather have my father try to do things on his own than call me all the time to fix it. Sure he makes mistakes that I have to fix every now and then, but at least he isn't calling me to make tiny simple tweaks every 5 minutes.

    This is how I learned, I messed up my PC many o'time but I learned something each time I did it.

    Be thankful at least your father isn't afraid of the computer.

    That's a great point that allot of people and businesses seem to miss. I often buy things that I can legally (or um illegally) get for free, such as Linux distributions just to, well you know, help out and support the cause.

    The ads on /. are not obtrusive, they are the ones the put an "overlay" on your browser screen and they relate to the reason I read /.

    If more companies realized that you should advertise to your audience and do it in a friendly sort of way things would be allot better. And if companies put out quality products then I think allot more people would actually give money to the company to support it.
