I don't have a family, I'm not married, it's just I am realistic about how important things are and I don't like my time being intruded upon.
I've known people with families who worked so much we started wondering if it was because they didn't want to be at home. I like being at home myself, but it sure is quieter at work. Somedays I call my wife to tell her I'm on my way home, and judging by the noise the kids are making (three of 'em), I jokingly tell her, "I'm staying late. I'll be home, uh, tomorrow!"
Anytime I think of heroic journalists, I'm reminded of a Kierkegaard line from his journal:
[I]f there is any suggestion of shooting people down, then let it be the journalists for the way in which they have used and profited by the simple classes. God knows I am not bloodthirsty...but nevertheless, I should be ready to take the responsibility upon me, in Gods name, of giving the order to fire if I could first of all make absolutely and conscientiously sure that there was not a single man standing in front of the rifles, not a single creature, who was not--a journalist. That is said of the class as a whole.
I guess my point was badly made and mostly missed. I'm wondering why he's amazed. So I did a mind-read on him: "Why, I'm so smart, and don't I know it! And smart people out there think just like me!" He's amazed at smart people not agreeing with him. Hmm, they must be stupid, yeah, that's it. Or worse: wicked!
Is a throughly docile democratized (herd mentality) society. No one must be able to imagine or visualize "solving problems" by using violence, by himself. No one must be able to imagine that there even is a problem. I love this State! More soma, please!
The guy running SmoothWall, in my opinion, made Theo de Raadt (OpenBSD) look like someone with whom you'd like to have a spot of tea and a lovely afternoon chat.
I know there's a lot of talk about these, but I can't take it seriously. Not in a country where everyone wants to get on American Idol, or Survivor, or Springer, or some reality show. The reality is people will degrade themselves to no end to gain some fame (or infamy). And the Boomers are the worst of the lot.
The places to first see this technology are in the most human-oriented fields those that require special care in dealing with the elderly, young and disabled."
Yup, instead of having humans take care of people, we need robots to do it "with a human touch." How much dehumanized can we get? ( A _lot_ more, I know.)
Boys don't want to be feminized, and that's what our schools do. You'll notice most of the dropouts are boys. That's why the dropouts live shorter lives--they're boys, and they generally take up the more dangerous jobs, including crime.
It *is* stupid to try to solve this problem, because the problem doesn't need solving.
For example, a large commercial airplane manufacturer has this problem, their engineering docs all aren't under constant review and update, but their vehicles stay in service for decades. After a certain time they archive on microfiche.
I know that JacksonLOTR fans will hate me, but why should anyone think that Jackson won't make a complete hash of The Hobbit, just as he did with LOTR? Jackson's useful role in LOTR was in getting the monster to be done at all. There's no issue like that now.
Foxnews: big mistake. Slashdot is where the experts prowl.

It's an old observation, but no one on their deathbed ever says, "I wish I had worked more."

Because all smart people think just like he does, he's amazed at how many stupid people there really are out there.

And how to configure an OpenBSD firewall is here.
Science must proceed. Ethics, moral qualms _can_ be outvoted.

Now I'm lost. A thread about driving! What bad analogy do I use???
You'd probably find that, even with an excess of adjusting, you might add 30 seconds to your drive. It's just a guess.
Grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.
That's when you can really say what you think. Use the Karma bonus. Burn a few points, you know how to pad it back up if needed. It's Slashdot tenure.
Wow, never thought I'd see Microsoft among the debris alongside the road to hell (you know, the one paved with good intentions).

Listen to yourselves. It's like a Tent Revival around here.

The Muslims don't see it the same way you do. They will fill in the vacuum, hope you enjoy sharia and dhimmitude.
Our Universities are so degraded. Next will be a degree in "Gamer Studies".
