    But what about the average Joe who want's to rip the CD for use on the computer, or a portable MP3 player? These are fair-use protected, as long as you do not distribute.


    What he's really saying is that the real criminals will be able to steal it anyway, and we're trying to defeat everyone else, whom we are defining as "casual easy-to-foil criminals".

    Site A's operation expenses go up. (hosting/bandwidth/servers ain't free ya know)
    Site A floods me with ads to pay for added expenses.
    I hate ads.
    I, and others, go to Site B.
    Site B's expenses go up.
    Site B floods me with ads...


    Sounds like Californians moving around the country ruining nice little places.

    An interesting way of looking at the media is not that they're biased (which they are--they are mostly Statists), but more importantly, that they want to be considered insiders, part of the action. They become "courtiers" in that they surround the centers of power with sycophancy and general toadiness. That is why they come off sounding like the government's own Ministry of Propaganda.

    Problem is, I'm a freak who enjoys reading and learning, and if the schools were oriented towards people like me, most everybody else would flunk horribly. ^_^;;


    I am truly sorry you don't fit into the assembly line called "education". And your good teachers should be banished to Greenland for violating the tenets of "Educating the Masses for Mindless Docility".

    I can't think of why you'd require it, but since it can be done, lots of people are doing it. We do because we _can_, not because we _should_.

    Well, as a somewhat technology savvy teen who just turned 15, I was looking forward to a summer job at a local dotcom. (I live in the Silicon Valley) Now when I inquired about simple mindless tasks that usually hire youths, I find no vacancies even at McDonald's! Heh. Just something to think about. Why would they hire a youth when they could hire someone who needs to feed his family.


    I went into McDonald's trying to find work flipping burgers, anything; and the manager told me "sorry, all our computer scientists have Master's Degrees."

    We who live in the D.C. area are very familiar with the Post's penchant for "manufacturing" stories where none exist. Mr. Zimmerman unfortunately was the party on the receiving end of the editorial foul play in this particular case.


    My first reaction was, "I don't believe the Washington Post." And to think, I delivered that propaganda rag for four years! The shame of it all.

    Nor in general, any mainstream media outlet. What a bunch of court hangers-on! Especially in Washington, D.C. I do rely on them for the general news, but the usefulness is in reading between the lines to find out what the truth is.

    I've often said that few people would put up with Windows if they had to pay for it.


    The same people who would revolt if they had to make a lump-sum tax payment instead of "never seeing it due to withholding" are the same people who would revolt at buying windows if not for it's being "free" with the computer.


    There's got to be a way for us to get some money from these suckers!

    It all makes sense. Just read Crisis and Leviathan. The state (aka Leviathan) has always used crisis as a way to expand. So, you can ask yourself in a time of crisis, "How will Leviathan take advantage of _this_ one?" Somehow, if you're opposed, you're unpatriotic.

    No, it guarantees that the government will not restrict your ability to say what you want. The First Amendment doesn't apply to corporations.


    Actually, the Constitution doesn't guarantee a thing. The US government has abused it willy-nilly. A well-armed populace with a will to resist, however, does.
