Get different headphones for your iPod.
Don't carry what is obviously a laptop bag, carry a beat-up raggedy backpack.
Act confident, but not cocky. Hold your head up high. Know your neighbors.
Perform regular back-ups, not just to guard against theft, but coffee, dropping, accidental deletion, etc.
My hope is that the fate of 3Com serves as a deterrent to the current trend toward outsourcing and offshoring.

I have had the opportunity to watch the new network, and I am not sure if I like it. Many of the shows show potential, but are just plain boring in practice. I don't want to watch a bunch of geeks deathmatch on Arena. I did like the E3 coverage with Dane Cook, he is just a really funny comic though, I am not sure anyone else could have carried that segment. I am miffed that they kept Thunderbirds from TechTV, I don't know about any of you guys, but I think that show sucks bigtime. I do hope they keep Wil Wheaton, I was getting into his subtle ribbing of the callers on Call For Help. Comcast is making a huge mistake, IMHO, why fix something that is not broken? If they can get rid of all of the "robots battling each other" shows, I will be at least slightly happy. I will give the network a chance though, granted they keep Leo.
What about the American businesses that can not survive because our government does not subsidize and sponsor industry? Even Japan's government gives corporations money for R & D. If our government were serious about maintaining our superiority in many industries, they could fix it easily. I suppose their portfolios benefit, but the average American suffers so that the rich get richer.
Working just fine for me. Just asks me for my password every once in a while, which tells me that the server probably got rebooted or its tokens flushed. I have had a few problems sending mail to cox.net from outside the domain, but the mail gets delivered in about a day. I have been getting the standard 421 Server Busy messages.
Have you looked into OCR software? You may have to do some cleaning up afterward, but the files would be much smaller because they would be characters instead of being basically pictures. I don't know if the software would be able to work well with the messy handwriting, but I would give it a shot. Look here for some more information.
Will these nuclear power plants automatically replace themselves after they blow up in about 50 years? That is, if you have enough money in the bank to cover it.
I feel your pain. Our 500 employees drop ~2,000 spam s a day into a public folder we use for blocking. That is on top of the thousands a day we already block, and the hundreds we tag as possibly being spam. I checked one guy's account with him, and he had over 5,000 spams. He had not checked the account in about six months. I think spam blocking and virus scanning will slowly just become a fact of life. I made an online spam counter for my home PC, since January 12 it is up to ~8,000. I check it from work every once in a while. The only way to combat spam would be to make it cost the sender money. How that would get done without inconveniencing many more people, I do not know, but I think that the vast majority of us would rather pay a nominal fee than put up with the rising costs of fighting spam.
The more organisation and delegation in Linux, the better. With the gains being made using Bitkeeper and this, I feel that Linux will make leaps and bounds in the next year. The things I hope for are better hardware detection and working device drivers for more devices (especially multifunction printers). I think Xandros is getting really close to the way things can be. But then again, I run a Debian CLI install on a Pentium II 350. I guess what I meant to say was, for Linux to gain mass market acceptance, it needs to do everything Windows/OS X does, but better, cheaper and faster.
I hate to sound like a *nix fanboy, but they probably run Windows. I read a Linux magazine article about a uni in Montreal that had like 15 servers, even then that was for redundancy. Sounds like bad sysadmins than the death of e-mail. If I want a "____ is dying" headline, I will call Rob Enderle.
Let me get this straight.... the government enforcing laws against criminals is bad?
The PATRIOT act has to go. I didn't RTFA, I admit. I skimmed the headline. Everyone deserves a fair shake, even sickos. Our system is not perfect, but I believe that there are enough checks and balances to keep the stealing of rights to a minimum. There needs to be a way around the 2 party system. It ends up being two different brands of the same garbage. Part of me wants to vote for Nader out of spite. We the people need to raise more of a stink when something ruffles our feathers. Most of us just mumble under our breath and don't think twice. We need to point out injustice where we see it, and commend politicians when they do the right thing and stand up for the little guy.
Umm.... they are sickos because they abuse children in ways I do not want to know. I don't see how the label could be extended to John Q. Public. I hold a tiny shred of faith that our (U.S.) government won't abuse this priviledge. I do not think they will get out of hand if we elect someone who gives a shit like Kucinich or Kerry. Put away the tin foil hat. I harbor a healthy distrust of the government. No system is perfect, ours is pretty close, but the PATRIOT act has to go. I believe in due process, and all other rights, I have a pocket sized copy of the Constitution in my pocket right now.
They already have been monitoring traffic, I do not like this fact, but one has to accept it as a fact of life. It is not like our Congress will do anything about it, they want to keep control. So the whole system of laws is broken and we should be thrust into Anarchy? These guys were breaking the law, the wiretapping did what it was supposed to do, catch badguys. I'm sorry, call me crazy, but these person's rights ended when they infringed someone elses.
1) Internet wiretapping has been going on for years, this does not surprise me.
2) It will be very difficult to garner any sympathy for these sickos from myself or the/. community.
Or any community for that matter.
It seems it would be pretty difficult to buy pants big enough to hold their gigantic balls. But seriously, it takes guts for a little company to go after such a huge one as Intel. If Intel is found to have violated the patent, then by all means they should pay All Computers. But Intel could have just as easily reverse engineered it, and used the exact same layout by chance. Any lawyers that could clarify this? If it is still infringement if someone reverse engineers it and comes up with a similar or an exact copy of a patent?
Or I could curse him in Judaism. "On the one hand, you are an asshole. On the other hand you are a son of a bitch. On the other hand you are lower than cow excrement. On the other hand...." </Tevya>
Search is built in to Windows. Very rudimentary, but it works for most uses. MSN search is horrible. The worst out there. They manipulate search results in their own favor, etc. People use google because it is non partisan, most people reject other search engines that are merely ad delivery vehicles. Google is becoming as ubiquitous as the dictionary, the thesaurus, and the encyclopedia.
So many comments, yet not one link to the Prime Number Shitting Bear?
Not even the slightly more tame Prime Number Pooping Bear?

I had to check and see if the author was Rob Enderle. So music, which has been around since the dawn of time is dying? Fuck off!
Well prostitution is the exchange of "something of value" for favors, not just money.

Of course to get the most out of that, you need to buy the iLube, that is only available from Apple, of course.

Thanks for correcting me. I know the final decisive factor was Bell's meticulous record keeping. I hope I am not wrong again.
Anan Emus Keward Reminds me of that SNL sketch. "We are hot on the trail of this man :"Hus Bin Pharteen" and his brother "I Bin Pharteen"
Actually, it was because Bell kept better records than Gray. Gray filed his patent first, IIRC.
