The BIOS can be upgraded from Windows!
For quite some time, Asus has had a free program that checks for BIOSupdates from FTP, and then automatically upgrades when needed.
It works on all windows versions.

Therefore; there is no reason for BIOS-makers to use DOS at all.

  13. Forcing upgrades to XP on Windows XP Has Arrived · · Score: 1

Okay, it's been like 1 year since MS realeased Windows 2000. Why should they force us to upgrade again?

When WinXP becomes the most popular OS, MS forces companies/users to upgrade. Why? Because most of XP-technologies aren't backward compatible. Example: If one of two cooperating companies upgrade to XP, the other has to follow to be able to continue cooperating. Microsoft is deliberately outdating older versions. (Word docs is one example)

-Does the OS add any "killer-app" features? NO!
    -Is XP neccecary? NO!

In my opinion, Windows XP is just "Yet Another Service Pack for Windows 95"...

Then again, what to expect from a Slashdot post : )

Still, a very promising CPU. (but a lot can happen before the CPU is realeased sometime in 2003)

Since OGG is opensource, I really wish that it would have been better. However, encoding Ogg files takes unacceptable time on my Athlon 1,5 Ghz. The result is large files, with only decent quality.
