The snatching comes in when MS decides to exercise patent control over Mono. MS have patented a bunch of things in.Net and who knows how they'll use those patents in the coming years...
If you have a contract with the company to, say, get a better deal on the phone, I'll bet they require the SSN. They run a credit check when you have a contract, and that's always based on SSN.
What does it mean that the "solaris install is done with a 32bit kernel"? If I download the released Solaris 10 and install it on AMD64, I get a 32-bit kernel? That makes no sense.
Have you ever given the customer a choice of fix price vs time and materials, where you said the fixed price was padded due to uncertainty? If so, what did they usually say? If not, what's the reason not to do this?
What's one that better? I'm serious. All the ones I've dealt with are worse. Recently dealt with droc.com. What slime balls.
I have yet to see a registrar that has a nice a web management interface for a bunch (30+) domains, but I'd be happy to switch to someone better than verisign.
There is some very strange disconnect going on here. The $4.95 I pay per month for my DirecTivo subscription is much MUCH less than I pay for my basic cell phone contract, and much less than my landline. That's probably the best $4.95 subscription I've EVER had. People, that's 2.5 Red Bulls. That's not even one movie.
Sounds like he needs to close his mouth around the brush and breath through his nose. That's what I do to prevent splatter everywhere (and, apparently, breathing evil bacteria).
Welcome to the new America. Property crimes are more important that violent crimes against people.
Drug crimes, too.
This place is pretty damn fucked up. Nearly 1/2 of the people here seem to think things are just A-OK. I mean, they elected GWB, and that is definitely an endorsement of the status quo.
I have a Canon D30. I did the dust test and, yes, there's one splotch. Do I ever notice it? No. I even went and looked for it once I knew where it was. Couldn't see it except in a single shot with a lot of blue sky. Of course, it would have been a bird had I not done the test and knew where to look.
There may be fine reasons to switch from Windows to Mac OS X, but the iPod isn't one of them. I use the iPod just fine on a Windows XP box.
I think the switching can be explained this way:
1. Mac OS X is getting better all the time. It sucked when it first came out--my company spent a lot of time porting software to it and I really hated it, for a variety of reasons (software portability and bugs).
2. Apple is perceived as doing better. This translates into better sales.
3. Windows and Microsoft have taken PR hits in the last year or so. This should translate into more Mac OS X sales.
Sounds nice but there is very little information on that site. Also, the site is a little bare. How do we know it's legit? I would never run that program, without a little more information on the author and the program (like, what does it really do?).
Of course, I'd never bring up any box running any OS connected to the 'net unless there was a firewall between that new box and the 'net. Just sayin'.
How easily provoked you must be to get so upset about something on a message board that didn't even refer to you personally in the first instance. Go take a deep breath. Then hold it - for about 4 years.
I'll tell that to some of the parents who list a child in Iraq. I'm sure they'll feel much better.
Reading your posts has been interesting. I always like seeing Cognitive Dissonance in action. If you're confused, think on this: you hate Kerry for god knows what, but you see what GWB has done and you don't hate him (you are "irked").
It's a message board. If you want a comprehensive list and in-depth analysis, buy my book. Hey, that's funny! I should use that line!
I'm not whining, I'm complaining... you have an interesting grasp of the English language. Whining is defined as "complain or protest in a childish fashion".
Your ignorance is shown by the fact that you have to resort to name-calling right off the bat. Wrong again. The name calling means I was pissed. The logical arguments I made stand on their own. You're not very logical, are you?
Let's see.... you're a republican lawyer that doesn't want to put forth cogent arguments on slashdot because he wants people to buy his book. Man, you just made my day. THANK YOU.
If all you can do is whine about being bothered by ads... fuck! You deserve the miserable piece of shit this country will become if we continue to have leaders like GWB.
Sometimes you need to vote against someone. Stop obsessing on Kerry and obsess on Bush.
Federal social services have been cut, steadily, since the early 80's, started by Reagan. In the 80's there was a flood of homeless into the street from mental institutions. Anyone in Berkeley in the 80's could tell that most of the people on the street were plain nuts and needed full-time help.
Berkeley and SF are tolerant places. The cops don't throw them in jail (or beat them and tell them to get out of town). Many places across the US are very intolerant of homeless people, and will run them out of town.
The weather is good most of the year (not too cold, little rain).
Put all these factors together, and you get a recipe for attracting homeless people from all over the country.
It's not an SF problem, it's a US problem. The US should do something about this.
now I can wait on my failed 9.0 = 9.1 upgrade
on
SUSE 9.2 Released
·
· Score: 2, Informative
Perhaps 9.0 => 9.2 will work.
Basically, the upgrade failed (and left my system in a partially upgraded state, requiring me to restore from backup tapes) due to some internal error. Yes, I have an older system (dual Celeron 500's). Red Hast was happy on it before the upgrade to SuSE 9.0, though.
Since I purchased the professional, I figured I'd get support. Not so. I was told, because of the error I got, I had to do a "manual upgrade", but that's not covered by professional support. And, I had to wait weeks to be told this. Perhaps it was the language barrier.
Since the system involved is fairly critical, I deicded to leave it at 9.0. I'm a little wary now of SuSE.
Gimme a break. Loopholes are put there by politicians at the behest of lobbyists. If you think loopholes are there to promote free enterprise health I want some of what you're smoking.
Even so, you missed the main point. It's the hypocrisy of MS that people are pissed at, not that corporations have a free ride in some states. Perhaps you should re-read the links.
I have a hypothesis: it was a power play to eliminate all competition. It would have been difficult for AMD and others to follow them down this IA64 road.
Corrolary: Intel wanted to establish compiler dominance. I work for a compiler company that produces every part of the source to machine translation for our compiler. Intel told us we would not be able to do an IA64 port all the way to machine code and that we'd have to use their assembler. This was shocking. Upon probing this, the Intel guy would not relent. He said it was near impossible for anyone but Intel to produce machine code for IA64. For over 20 years we've done countless ports, to some really weird hardware. Our expert said it would take 2 years to do the port. The most time we *ever* spent doing a port was a year and that was for a Cray (and a lot of that was for operating system interface issues).

Nevermind, I saw your reply to someone else. Thanks for the info...

Before I spend a huge amount of time downloading, can you point to evidence from sun.com that the x86 download contains AMD64 support?
Have you ever given the customer a choice of fix price vs time and materials, where you said the fixed price was padded due to uncertainty? If so, what did they usually say? If not, what's the reason not to do this?
Beating the Averages by Paul Graham is a good start. What made Lisp different and On Lisp are also by Graham. Lastly, one from Franz Inc on domain specific languages on top of Lisp. Really, if you've never used Lisp and you want to create your own language, you're missing the boat.

It would be interesting to see a $/kg comparison of each rocket.
Same for me. However, greylisting saved me. I get 2-3 spams a day, whereas before greylisting I was getting 150+ per day.

Can someone please tell me what she did to deserve all the hate? Be specific, please. I'm very curious.
(Please don't give reasons related to Bill's behavior. She's a different person. Be specific to her, please.)

What a fucking baby. You are completely clueless if all you have to say about Bush is that you are irked about the Patriot Act.
How about making us less safe?
How about repealing environmental laws that protect all of us?
How about blurring the line between church and state?
What about lying about Iraq?
What about giving a huge tax break to the richest americans?
There are so many other things.

allofmp3.com is the perfect music store.
Be sure to use their Explorer. It makes searching and previewing very easy.
They were not thinking. They were being arrogant.
