it's about principle. if enough of us demand the 52 bucks, thats a good deal of money for Dell and Microsoft to eat. This will lead the future offering of machines without an OS preloaded.

If you wonder why things in the world are taking a down turn, it's because very few people are willing to do things just on principle. As one person, yea, 52 bucks is less than a drop in the bucket (Especially from the corporation's side of it) But if we work together, we can begin to change things towards our liking.

Just because you don't THINK it's possible, does not mean it's not. The only information we have about Mars right now comes from telescopic views, and quite literally, scratching the surface

    "Governments won't want idiots"...

There is no Earth bound government that has ANY right to say that I can't go to Mars and settle there, claim ownership of it, and proclaim that I am the leader of the entire planet.

You may be missing my point and think I'm just some lunatic that thinks he has a spaceship in his backyard. Of course I don't, heck I don't even have a MODEL airplane. But, just because you don't know about someone having one, does not mean it's not possible, or won't happen in our lifetime. And LEGALLY, with the exception of the FAA in the US not allowing me to fly my rocket (I could just put it on a boat and launch from international waters) There is NOTHING that ANYONE can do about it.

The whole point people are missing here, is that nobody is there on Mars, that we know of. Mars is not a Nation, it is a planet, so the United NATIONS and any interNATIONAL agreement really has no clout.

I hereby proclaim myself the ruler of Mars

Of course that does not make me the ruler of Mars, because I have never even set foot there. Once that happens, then it's a whole different story.

I'll say it again though.. These requests should only come from HR/Personell whatever you call them.

At a previous job I had the task of the web filter logs, as well as access to all emails and user's files. Sure, I looked at them sometimes, but only if I needed to. And yes, at times lower lever managers - supervisors - would ask for information about their direct reports.

Even though no direct policy like this existed, I told them I will only give that information to HR. One time the CEO asked for something, and I would not even give it to him. I defered him to my boss, who, probably gave it to him, but I made it very clear:

"I've been given trust by the company to access this information. What if someone went to a website that divulged information about a medical condition that they were keeping secret? Granted, they would be wrong for doing it on company time, but I am NOT going to be the one to give up that information"

I think I also gained a little respect by saying that and instituting my policy. Of course, YMMV

I switched to Packet 8 VOIP 4 years ago, when it was in it's infancy. At the time, I still maintained a POTS line from SBC.

During my experimental phase, the POTS line went out of service 8 times. Often for more than 3 hours at a time (and those are only the times I noticed - I'm not a big telephone user) - and most of those times were for more than 6 hours at a time - even after a call to SBC Customer service.

My cable connection (not sure if it was comcast or @home at the time) went out - never, and the packet8 voip service went down 1 time, of which I was notified ahead of time.

I quickly canceled my expensive SBC service and have had VOIP only for the rest of those years. Best part, was when we moved to our new house, I simply moved the device with me and did not have to change the number, or even bother telling anyone that I was moving.
