Which method would you choose, if you were an elected official in Israel, responsible for the safety and well-being of your civilian population?

    Neither

For one, I wouldn't send tanks into Arafat's compound every time Hamas bombed. I would work with Arafat to consolidate his security forces to ensure that the extremist methods of the terrorists groups (which you group with all of Palestine) are rendered frivolous - Let Palestine police themselves. One of things you are forgetting is that Israel was to leave the occupied territories as part of Oslo, in addition, during the "Oslo years", there were NO suicide bombings (please show me your source for the 300+ civilian casulaties you mentioned) as the terrorists waited for Israel to get off the land Israel decided to take over and build on.

What do you think of sending tanks into Tim McVeigh's hometown because he bombed a building? Sounds Stupid doesn't it - but that is essentially what Sharon does every time something goes down. There are 2 sides to this story and I feel you have left out 50% of this story out. Get informed on *both* sides of the issue...I assure you, if you were to consider this situation

I have to say I agree. I have learned in order to get well-balanced news, you must read the story at several sources and concentrate on the facts that consistently rise to the top.

I was pointing out the other day that US support of Israel would be but much less if we had an equal amount of Arab lobbyists - instantly I was labeled an anti-Semite and my opinion disregarded. This also happens to all media outlets that say anything non-PC. I am frankly sick of watching Israel do some very fucked up things "in retaliation" of the bombings. Why don't they just move their people out of occupied territories and quit fucking with Palestine? Seems like that would be a start. By the way, I am not an anti-Semite, just someone who sees things as they are.

None of the main stream rags will tell you we are being led to war by a corporate puppet with an 85 IQ either...(that may be inflammatory)

We began development with 1.3, and would like to continue with 1.3 instead of changing to 1.4 in the middle of the development cycle. Our reasoning for migration is one based on avoidance of the draconian EULA of Microsoft and their policy of forced obselescence. We also need to have a platform that is good for the sales staff as well as the engineers - this seems to make the MAC an obvious choice. I would prefer a *nix alternative, but prefer to avoid the hand holding overhead. As far as asking slashdot, I am asking about experiences with software instead of installing, trying them out, then moving on to the next - it seems to me a professional works smarter not harder - which is what I am attempting here.

You MUST believe in something more important than yourself, I choose freedom.

I have written a little .bat file that xcopies a directory on the users drive. I just put the bat file in the scheduled task and have it run every day. Of course there are some problems, i.e. .pst files and other files in use can not be copied, but the script opens a command window and alerts the user it is doing a back up. This way they have time to close Outlook, word etc.. saved my ass plenty of times. The trick is to partition the users drive, create a directory named "data", then create directorys corresponding to the various apps underneath. Then point all of their apps to the respective directories so their files are always easy to find. You also have the added benefit of being able to recover data when Windows fails...just format the c: drive and it all on the other partition.

  10. As a sysadmin.... on System Administrators - College or Career? · · Score: 1

I found if you really want to be taken seriously you should go to college, get a CIS or equivalent degree - meanwhile using the time to gain more knowledge. The college experience is something that will always benefit you, although it is not representative of the real world. You're young - take the time to soak as much information up as you can, get your certs while in college, and do not let idealism dictate your education, it does not dictate corporate policy. Learn broadly, a good sysadmin will be flexible and have knowledge of a range of solutions. College will teach you some of the finer points if you are already competent, which will only increase your ability as a sysadmin. College will also give you good time/project management skills - which are essential, especially when you need to put out several fires at once...which is when they happen, all at once. Also, a good sysadmin does program. There will always be a need for you to whip out a quick and dirty app or script for one reason or another.

I think a question this "fucking moron" has asked that is viable is about linux spyware. I have been concerned about this for a while, but there is not any software listed in a simple google search that suggests that they can detect and remove linux spyware. I have also not seen a mention of linux spyware being found anywhere - so you should turn your hostilities to the posters who do nothing but suggest programs for countering windows spyware (geez, how many those posts do we need) and miss the rest of the post.
