I was a software engineer and lead in Systems at Microsoft for 13 years. I worked on several OS projects including windows NT. So I quote myself as an authority: NT is not VMS.

  2. NT is not VMS on Gates Comdex Keynote Shows Plans, Matrix Spoof · · Score: 1

The reason you see job postings that seem to be ridiculously specific and arbitary for simple jobs is that the company already knows who they are going to hire. See, there are rules about hiring foreigners into positions that could be filled by local candidates. So what they do is sit the candidate they want down (maybe a former intern) and ask for every conceivable skill they possess, attempting to create a job position for which there is only one person on earth qualified.

I have found many people will get angry when you say that global warming isn't real. Are you one of these people?
Do you hold on so dearly to this notion that evidence to the contrary outrages you? Isn't this a symptom that just maybe you might be wrong?
When I look at any of the graphs used to back up the global warming story, I do not see evidence of warming. Usually the graphs are zoomed in and incorrectly based. People like to imagine that they can 'see' a signal in the noise just like the stock graphs on the nightly news. But its not there, it is an illusion. Weather is a chaotic system so you will see fluctuations. Fluctuations are indicative of nothing.
Making the case that just because there is no evidence of a problem that reducing CO2 emmisions is still a good idea is an invalid argument. There are many things that might be true but have no basis, such as the idea that you should give me all your money if you want to go to heaven. Taking action on imagined crisis is foolish.

Just because the neo-cons are assholes does not imply that everything they say is wrong. In this case, the evidence is on their side.

I have never understood why Mac developers and users tolerate Apple screwing them over every couple of years. Say what you will about Microsoft, but they do spent enormous effort trying to avoid this problem on each release, and the effort shows in their market share. And of course open source doesn't require you to wait a few months to recompile...

Filesystem benchmarks can be remarkably inconsistent. These tables do not display average difference between runs. Usually this means that the methodology used to do the benchmarking is lax, and thus, untrustworthy.

For example, consider that harddrives do their own error correction. Depending on the location of marginal blocks on the media, different file systems can score dramatically for no other reason than the drive's re-mapping or error correction logic is kicking in at a bad point. Alignment of data can also be a factor in performace which depending on the formatting procedure may be completely random when compared to the file system sitting on top of it.
For these reasons and a host of others, it is not reliable to do filesystem performance comparison on a single machine.
Bottom line is that there is a good chance that these data are not fair representations of the relative merits of each filesystem.
