    Yeah, using SuSE for a years made me uncomfortable knowing YaST's licence. Now, it will be ideal distro :-)

    YaST change files if it is said to it to change them, but it won't change manually configured files because it keeps track through MD5 sums of files, and instead of that it will save config to backup file so you can use it on your own.
    When you need manual config, most of config files that YaST use have ability to include other files, so you deal with your own modifications in another file and no need to change ones that YaST created.

    Nowdays YaST is very usefull so I'm switching most configs to use them from YaST because it saves me lot of time when dealing with lot of machines.

    and how do you suppose to detect spyware with port scanning?

    I think that traffic monitoring and packet sniffing/analising can give some results... but port scanning????

    Each time a new local/remote root vulnerability is found the only way to be certain you haven't been cracked is to reinstall from scratch.

    hmmm I don't think it's real to expect reinstalling machines after every local (or remote) root vulnerability discovered... you will need bunch of admins just to keep on reinstalling systems, testing them, and, instead of going into production, reinstalling them again...

    Results were a little varied as 4-way Opteron systems seemed to fare the best, although dual Xeon configurations almost always beat dual Opterons.

    well, I prefere 2 machines with 1 Opteron each than 1 machine with 2 Xeons :)

    I'm not an american and have voted only in classic way (I'm saying this because I don't know american rules in classic way voting) but...

    theoretically, if I'm able to vote by e-voting, I can give that right to some third person by giving him my data needed to vote, and he can do with it whatever he wants. but in classic way, I need to come to voting place, to identify myself and there is no misuse of voting rights in such obvious way.

    so is it legal to give (or even sell) your very own right to third person?

    all I want to say is that you can't trust filters 100%
    it does not matter much to people who use e-mail to forward chain letters if they miss some message - but there are also people who run business which depends on e-mail (hey I don't mean on spammers) :) and they can't let themselves to miss it.

    Even I don't use WP (in fact I use OO to open documents - not to create them) I'm glad that WP survived because there is one more thing I (or any one) can choose if need it. The worst thing for software is to become one and only solution. With WP running, OO will be better, M$ Office will be better, GOffice will be better and so on...

    I have never looked at some software as killer of other one. Right question is: is it good enough for me and my needs? I think that Gimp is good enough for lot of people who work with graphics. Photoshop is nice piece of software, but is it necessary that everyone pay for features that won't use anyway. If you really need it, and don't have OSS alternative, then pay for it. Not before.
