"Also get rid of the practice of employers choosing which company and plan your health care money goes to. Your company should be able to deposit your benefit into a company that you choose, not some troll in HR"
I see what you're going for, but when you work for a large company, they can negotiate a better price with the insurance company. If you work for a small company, you're going to get a crap rate for your group. If you buy individual insurance, you're going to be absolutely screwed.
Forcing each individual to fend for themselves against the insurance company giant isn't going to do anyone any favors. It would likely just end up with everyone paying a whole lot more for health insurance.
If there was a percentage option, most people would look at video games and say "I'll take my money up front, thanks" and be bitter about their poor choice after the project hits paydirt.
For GTA4? This was the most anticipated game in a long time, and the last few GTAs were huge hits. If there was a percentage option, I'm sure he would have jumped at it.
For most games, maybe not. But everyone knew GTA4 was going to be huge.
Sadly, right now, probably the best they can do is clone hamburger, which means that if they do make it marketable, it'll drive the cost of all other cuts of beef through the roof.
I think it would be the opposite effect- all of the meat that was currently going towards ground beef will be sold as intact, so there will more meat available to sell. Higher supply of meat = lower price.
Of course, most of the meat that is sold as ground beef is crap meat anyway. They probably won't be selling it as steaks, but maybe stew meat or something.
Old lady - OMG, here comes another Gen X'er with a goatee and a Soundgarden tat on his arm! Run for your lives! Gen X'er - But ma'am, wouldn't you like to buy some of my homemade cookies for charity to the blind? Old lady - Shoo! Go away, you filthy slacker, or I'm yelling "rape"!
When will this cruel, pointless discrimination end? And who's the evil mutant in this little parable, eh?
For most of you four hours of work a day is true. Four hours spent working, four more on Slashdot, two more gossiping by the water cooler, and a few more to schmooze up with management so you won't get fired.
I work all my hours except for breaks, and I read Slashdot at home not at work and I don't gossip or schmooze
So if scripture says nothing about it, then it shouldn't be addressed by the government? Perhaps Christian scriptures don't say much directly about universal health care, they do advocate feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, visiting the sick and the imprisoned as the way to salvation.
The brand of Christianity that is most popular in the US teaches that belief in Jesus is enough to get into heaven, and all the good works don't do you any good. It's pretty convenient that way- you can act like a total asshole, but if you believe in Jesus, you've got your ticket to heaven.
Well, ok, but don't presume to tax the empty land, demand their resources, and tell them how to live their lives then, either.
Seeing as the flyover states are net-drains on the economy, supported by the tax dollars of the east and west coats, I'd say lots of luck to them if they decide to leave.
A direct vote would be the worse thing possible. This would ensure that the largely concentrates population centers would forever dictate to the other states. Look at the red blue maps of the last two presidential elections. It worked the way it was supposed to because as you can see, the vast majority of the states supported one candidate over the other. The idea that all of the east and west coast can dictate by population size, the course of events to the other 40 or so states is simply ridiculous.
Right, because an arbitrary number of states or big chunks of empty land that appear one color on a map should count more than a large population living in a small area.
Personally I'm sick of the empty land vote ruining it for the rest of us.
minimum means MINIMUM. Windows 95 could run on 512K of RAM and a 20MB HDD. You can't really use it that way, let alone open a 3rd party application, but it does in fact RUN on it. Why did you expect Vista to be any different? Why did you expect it to require the same specs as XP if it's 7 years newer!?!
By that logic, one could argue that you could run Vista on my old 486sx-25 computer, as long as I have a big enough hard drive and a lot of RAM. Hey it runs! I can even play Oblivion on it. I get 6 FPY.
I'd happily get brown shoes over black if I thought it were important to anyone, but as I don't consider my current employer to be part of my long-term career, I intend to stick with the comfort of my needs-replacing sneakers.
Even if that's the case, it's still best to make a good impression on the people you work with now. It might make a difference in the raises/promotions you get at your current job, and even if you don't plan to be there forever, it might help your starting salary at your next job if you're making more at your current job.

There are 4.1 million people in Kentucky, and the unemployment rate is 5.4%. This article claims that each of the unemployed people in Kentucky will land 10 jobs.
If all of the newly created jobs are part-time and pay minimum wage, each unemployed person will have to take 10 of them to pay their bills.
I won't bother with the rest of your post, as experience teaches that people like you have no interest in an actual conversation; you simply chant "I'm right I'm right I'm right" until everyone else gives up and goes elsewhere, allowing you to declare victory.
In fairness to the troll, it does get pretty frustrating holding conversations with creationists that go somewhat like this:
Evolutionist: The sky is blue. Creationist: The sky is red! Up is down! Black is white! *shits his pants and drools all over himself*
After repeating that conversation about 100 times, it goes more like this:
Evolutionist: You're a moron. Creationist: Narrrp.
Spend a year or two in Chile, and talk to the people about that time. You'll get a pretty dramatically different view than what you read about and hear about outside of Chile.
I guess only speaking to Chileans whose families were murdered by the Pinochet regime would present a biased picture of things. There are millions of Chileans whose families *weren't* murdered, and they're in the majority.

Well sure, but the political party system has flourished under our electoral system because it works well in getting people elected. It may not be the way the founders intended it to work, but the design they laid down has followed to its logical conclusion, which is where we're at now.

When discussing if the system works, it helps to read the Constitution and associated documents before saying "it works as designed."
The federal government does a lot of things that one could argue are outside the powers they were granted under the Constitution.
However, we were talking about the electoral system, specifically the presidential electoral system, and I've never heard anyone claim that the current US electoral system works in a manner contrary to what was laid out in the Constitution. I mean, changes have been made since 1791 with the racial and women's suffrage, and the changes to the electoral college and the direct election of senators, but the presidential electoral system works as designed.
A benevolent dictator would be someone in the mold of Pinochet. Takes control at the behest of the Congress and Supreme Court, modernizes and updates the entire country's systems (infrastructure, economy, and political organization), then voluntarily steps down when it's done.
And then spends the rest of his life trying to avoid being hanged for crimes against humanity.

What, do we suddenly have a shortage of poor people on earth, we need to make more?
