is it really so hard that you cant fillout their linking form? christ people, their trying to save bandwith costs AND prevent other sites from claiming NPR content as their own. THIS IS STUPID?
NPR is not funded by tax dollars(maybe arts endowment grants, but thats it). its paid for by members and corporate donations. people here are acting like NPR is breaking some law, but in reality, there only trying to save bandwith costs. any of you stopped to think about that?
whats the problem with NPR's page-linking clause? this could save them a boatload in bandwith costs. plus, how many other sites dont want you "deep-linking" within their site?
if you have to have a valid Windows license to run IE, then what about Mac's?? you cant get a Microsoft Windows license for a Mac, but you can certainly install/use IE...hell, IE comes Pre-Installed.
just finished reading Toms review. ok, so he benchmarking the new XP 2200+ with what, a P4 2500 something??? ok, granted, the AMD is comparable to a 2200GHz P4, but not quite the 2500 something or other they ranit against...of course the P4 is gonna win(and charge 2x the cash as well). whatever happened to comparing "LIKE" items???

mod me down or whatever, but what exactly does Star Wars have to do with "news for nerds. stuff that matters"??? I cant even bring myself to sit all the way through any of the previous 4 Star Wars movies, so why should I care about this one when people are allready saying how its only marginally better than episode1? the best Star Wars related anything Ive ever seen is the "Pulp Phantom" flash movie/cartoon....and that was only passable.
Christ, if I read another post about how you cant remove Messenger from a XP box..... I personally dont use any messenger.
2 QUICK(registry editing FREE) ways to get rid of Messeneger from XP. 1)/program files/messenger....change the folder name to something else! 2) in windows/inf there is a file called 'sysoc'...open it in a editor and remove every instance of "hide". DO NOT remove any commas or anything else. save the file and reboot. after it comes back up, goto add/remove software in Control Panel/Windows Components, select Messenger and remove.
I purchased the card in late 2000. it stated on the box "Linux Supported" then. at the time they had Linux drivers on the driver page for the card. ALSA within Mandrake 7.2 recognized it and loaded the module, but it wouldnt work. the same happened in Mandrake 8.0-8.1, but a few months ago, M-Audio pulled the Linux driver off the driver page. in Mandrake 8.1, I get a buffer error, but I dont know which config file I need to edit, or what value to set the buffer to once I find it.
on the box it used to say it supported Linux, but myself or anyone else I knew couldnt get the driver to work. ALSA regonizes and loads the module, but it wont work...M-audio finally pulled the driver off their website and they no longer "officially" support linux.... shame, its a really nice card, and I'd love to try it with Ardour. shame that this is the only reason why my home office isnt 100% Windows free!
even though IE and WMP are free anyways??? so what if Windows is the same price with or without these programs. if you want them bad enough you can d/l them for free from Microsoft...
on default install it can play *ANY* audio/video codec....wav,.vqf,.mp3,.mp2,.mpeg1-4, divx;-), quicktime5, etc...(hell it can even play Flash5 movies!). while I do agree that Quicktime is very slow/sluggish. I have yet to see any ads from their ver. 5 player. my main gripe about MediaPlayer is that you cant turn off cddb downloads/updates(talk about annoying)
after reading the article linked, it is true that Columbus, Magellan and others used maps previously drawn, but these maps are also thought to be Portugeuse/Templar in authorship. if your familliar with the Holy Wars, then youve probably heard of the Knights Templar, then considered to be the best seafarers known. when the Catholic Inquisition had them rounded up and murdered in the early 1100's(the origin of Friday The 13th), many Templars fled to safer lands/waters in Portugal, Scotland and some even suspect North America. granted, there is very little evidence to base this on, but the Templars were known to possess maps/knowledge that most thought impossible. just some of my $.02
the Scandinavians were here at least 300-400(if not more) years before Columbus. plus, in the Mammoth Caves of Kentucky/Tennessee pre-Roman Jewish coins were found in sedimentary rock dating back before Columbus. granted, Columbus was the first well-known explorer(if you want to call him that) to find and *announce* the new land, but even he thought he had reached Asia...
as I was scrolling through the thread, someone was talking about artists that have sued the RIAA about copyright issues. one of the artists named was Dr Dre. for those who arent familiar with his work, before his "chronic 2001" album was released last year, he put up mp3's of *ALL* the songs on his website and offered them free-of-charge. granted, he was probably hoping that people would d/l the tracks then go out and buy the cd when it was released, and as far as I know, people did *BUY* the cd.
I realized Id forgotten to mention the FTP transfers after Id submitted it. but still with Etree, it was all dependant on the individual site-ops. then you had to be willing to sort thrugh long announce lists then hope the site op would send you l/p info, then hope you could get access. unless you were friends or knew some of the site-ops, you'd be lucky if you could ever get access to most of it.
they know Office runs on Mac, but the agreement between Microsoft and Apple runs out in August. the Senate wants Microsoft to extend the agreeement so that Office will continue to run on Macs(past, present AND future)
not sure where you are, but here in central VA, if you cant find a Xbox or GCN then your not looking. just yesterday at the local BestBuy, there were plenty of them available.
