A couple of minutes? What are you smoking? One of Microsoft's goals for Windows XP is to have it boot in under 30 seconds, and most modern computers (with a correctly tuned Windows partition, which is normally provided in OEM installs) can easily achieve that.
You can use the net command for stopping/starting win32 services if I'm not mistaken. I don't have a windows box here right now so I can't look into it, but I'm pretty sure there is a command line way of doing it.
Did you read the article? Longhorn isn't just a cosmetic change. For example, Microsoft plans to introduce a database-based file system, and most likely other enhancements.
Remember, this OS isn't planned to be released in two years.
So has anyone got any recipes that DON'T include pre-packaged this or pre-made that? You know, the ones that only use normal ingredients, like flour, eggs, sugar, vegetables and so on. Seems to me every recipe posted so far is of the "take one packaged of instant bla bla, add water and tomatoes"-variant. How about some REAL recipes?
Of course there is, but the files produced are not FREE (as in beer), you have to get a license for $20(?), and besides, the downloadable versions don't support some crucial features (dead keys for example).
Don't do that. It's easier to learn how to touch-type if it's impossible to actually look at the keyboard while typing. When I learned dvorak, I never rearranged my keys, instead i kept a printout of my new keyboard layout on a paper to look at.
Windows games that are programmed in a proper way (ie about 60 % of them), don't rely on which letter is pressed, but rather on which KEY is pressed. In other words, the classic WASD keyboard combination under qwerty automatically becomes,AOE when you start the game while running a dvorak layout.
Well, dvorak designed two keyboard layouts for use with one hand (left-hand dvorak and right-hand dvorak I believe they're called). You might want to look into one of those (depending on which hand you want to use for typing).
The reason I learned dvorak was actually to learn touch-typing. I was still hunt-and-pecking (although pretty fast) in qwerty after 10 years using computers, so I NEEDED something fresh to convince me of learning touch-typing. Dvorak was the answer for me.
Now, a couple of months later, I can touch-type dvorak and hunt-and-peck qwerty, although doing it the other way around won't get me very far.:)
If you're unhappy - make your own! I'm currently using a dvorak-layout modified for use with the Swedish alphabet, and also for easier coding (the regular Swedish keyboard layout is a NIGHTMARE for coding). It took a while getting used to, and my qwerty is not as fast as it once was, but this is MUCH more comfortable than the old qwerty layout.
While his final keyboard layout may be marginally better than dvorak, dvorak remains the better choice for much the same reason qwerty is used, you can set up a dvorak layout on almost any system and os, but with this funky layout, you need to be running X....
Actually, writing keyboard layouts for Windows 9X is a piece of cake, so it would be easy to implement it there. Win 2000/XP is a lot harder, as I discovered while trying to make a Swedish-enabled dvorak layout for it, but Microsoft has sources available for building the necessary.dll files. Using my existing source (and knowledge), I could probably implement his layout in Win2k in about 20 minutes.
Of course, this doesn't cover EVERY OS, but I'm convinced most of them are just as easy as X.
the "broken" EP contained a bunch of 1-second silent tracks between tracks 6 and 97, so that the two hidden tracks would be 98 and 99 respectively
Nitpicking:
Actually the original release of the Broken album
contained a smaller CD with the "hidden" tracks on it, this was however changed after the first printing sold out (mainly because some store owners took out the smaller CD and sold it separately).
Well the manual patches are available from the following directory: http://nwdownloads.bioware.com/neverwinternights/p atch/
But this is not listed on their homepage, so I can't be 100% sure they work (I've already updated my version so I can't try them out either).
Ah but you don't want your phone to have extra features, because then it's going to cost more, and you'll feel more sorry when you lose it. You can usually get away with not bringing your phone to that great party where you get really drunk and end up waking up naked in the city park wondering what the fuck happened, but in case you do need to bring your phone, you'll be glad you didn't bring one with an inbuilt MP4 player. It'll cost less to replace.:)
Yes it does, but i film is normally ready a couple of months before its premiere. You could have the translators translate the script a month in advance.
I think they should focus their energy and time more on preventing riots than dealing with them, especially in manners like this.
It's been tried, and, in the case of larger demonstrations, things tend to derail sooner or later anyway. It only takes a small group of demonstrators with the intent of introducing violence, and bam your peaceful demonstration turns into a riot. These guys don't want to hear arguments, they're not even interested in demonstrating against anything. They're just there to fight. Trying to prevent them from doing that is futile.
I support people's right to demonstrate. Unfortunately, there are people who abuse this right, and there's really no way of stopping them from doing that...
Why won't the neo-nazis get permission to demonstrate? Sure they may be an anti-democratic movement, but as long as they live under a democracy, they should have the same right to demonstrate as everyone else.
And he also uses #define which is considered evil in C++. const should be used instead. In other words, his code sucks.
Another question is of course, if you're CS majors, how come you're using C++ for your first project? CS majors ought to be using a language designed for promoting nice coding styles and the like. C++ is something you use in the real world, not at university!
I'd be surprised as heck if the Glorious Haskell Compiler wasn't targetting.NET real soon.
That's the Glasgow Haskell Compiler, not Glorious. I'd love to see.NET for Haskell, since it's a lovely programming language that I have far fewer uses for than I'd like...
This could be a GB/GBA killer... espically if they release a Devkit that can be used under linux, BSD, and that other operating system...
Oh yes a devkit for Linux and *BSD should be a high priority for anyone trying to create a GB/GBA killer. I know my 10 year old cousin makes all his purchases based on whether or not there is a Linux devkit.
This may be offtopic but still, I've never understood chess. I can spend hours upon hours playing almost any strategic game but chess just puts me off. It's too perfect. Never any real surprises. And it's a one-on-one game. It doesn't have that satisfaction of dealing with other people, using them for your own means.

Well light bends, just not in a useful way for weapons. :)

VERY useful feature for us non-standard people.

Well if you had actually checked a little closer yourself you'd seen that the 1.19 patch is not available for download from that page - only 1.18.

And yes, I have lost a phone by being drunk.

The parent to this post is trolling. The link is perfectly fine.

Hmm, an auto-updater of some sort that connected to the company's server regularly wouldn't be too hard to implement.
Of course, it would need strong encryption and a load of other smart security features to escape hacking, but it could work.

Nah chess is too lonely and quiet for me.
