given the state of disrepair of our university email system, many of us - staff included - are considering switching to something like gmail, to 'fix' things. probably quite a few government email systems are in no better shape.
of course, let's not forget humans' ability to panic and/or make mistakes.
just imagine if there's a rushing crowd, and all are not stopped by the weapon. does the operator aim and fire again, not having adjusted the power for a shorter range, or even turn up the power?
why don't they let the trials be carried out by civilians on politicians? I'm sure that'll do marvels for this thing to be thrown out.
whilst on the subject, I doubt this would get very far if: - it were a question of field testing this on congress/senate people - it it were some important constituents that were fieldtested upon.
testing it in a country on the other side of the globe - where the military doesn't do civilian death tools - is all too convenient.
That it 'just works' would suggest either of the following:
- mac os x automatically downloads the relevant drivers as it 'recognizes' the device
- said functions are already part of the os (eg. plug in a two-button mouse and it 'just works' w/o needing to dl. anything (the mouse-wheel scroll function is a bit questionable though)
in any event, either option is very promising in terms of realising this 'properly'
ok, so that probably wouldn't suck up 12k/month, but the fact that they can stand up up to a slashdotting probably says a thing or two about their hardware & bandwidth
I plugged in a logitech two button mouse on MacOS X and right off the bat I could use the 2nd mouse button to do what would previously had required a control-click (which was a replacement for the 2nd mouse button).

just wait for this to down the toilet like a bad case of diarrhea, as the operaters get cancer.

That's classified information!

If you've got a mouse with a scroll wheel - press the scroll wheel and the link opens in the background in a tab. ...how I've waited for this...

yep, looking back I can see there's a certain discrepancy (i.e. I was wrong :-(

You're completely right!
As a retail macOsX10.1 owner, I just checked my MacOSX box, and found another one of those cupon sheets!
So, no need to gloat about $129 'upgrades' - send in your cupons and you should get them cheaply, if not free!

Formac has a firewire dv/tv-in (+ tuner) - too bad it's a bit more expensive and lacks PVR software

considering the increacingly general ask slashdot submissions, I wonder how long it'll take before we get,
'how do I set up my home so I can access the TV, computer, and fridge as quickly as possible?'
