Principality Notice PN 011/01: Sealand offers assistance to US 20 September 2001
The Principality condemns the recent global terrorist activities and announces that any such related activity whether real or intended undertaken within its Territorial limits shall be considered an act against Sealand Criminal Code which provides for placing any persons suspected of such activities under immediate arrest and detention at the Sovereign's pleasure. The Principality has communicated directly with the United States of America offering its resources and making them available not only to the USA but to any State for the purpose of suppressing terrorist acts of any kind. Its sympathy and concern for all effected was expressed. The Principality is on a state of alert, and all activities are currently subject to scrutiny by Sealand authorities who are co-operating as appropriate with the International community to combat terrorism of whatever kind.
If you want maximum compatibility nothing is going to beat a huge sequence of still frames stored in a commonly-used format. Almost any of the common Internet standard formats would work. JPEG is probably the best choice for video still frames since it will save you a bunch of storage.
Sorry, JPEG is a lossy compression, and, frame to frame, the visible compression artifacts will appear in different places. This means that, once you reassemble the images into a sequence again, it's as if you suddenly got a whole lot of dust (or visual artifacts) on it.
As the parent poster mentioned in their subject, use a nonlossy format such as TIFF. (Or why not PNG, as I head it's Open).
don't forget 'usability' is a part of the Computer Human Interaction or Interaction Design Field.
lots and lots and lots of information about this topic can be found in ACM's digital library [www.acm.org/dl].
ACM's Computer Human Interaction Special Interest Group (SIGCHI) [http://www.sigchi.org/] is _the_ place to look for those looking for more than mere _usabilty_.
Q: I want to hack / destroy / take down / DoS / DDoS the H2K2 network during the conference. Is this ok?
A: No. If you do, you will be caught and possibly kicked out. The H2K2 network will be actively monitored for any activities that might hurt others' enjoyment of it. Treat the network nicely, and it will treat you nicely.
Q: I want to hack other machines on the H2K2 network during the conference. Is this ok?
A: If you put your machines on the network, expect them to be poked at. Conversely, poking other machines is part of the fun of H2K2, but do not be destructive (use `echo giggle | wall`, not `rm -rf/`).
It's funny you can tell who inhabits/. by seeing these comments.
100s of posts about coding, but no one mentions anything about considering what users want, how they work, and how software can best be made to suit their need. In short, CHI doesn't seem to be a consideration at all.
From seeing aging or non-100%-interested people use computers, I'd sat many more people would be using software if it were crafted for human demands, and not the ones set by the marketing department.
Sure, a graphic designer can put together a slick looking interface, but if it's conceptually considered to any greater length, it'll have the same effect as faulty code.
What I'm saying is that, while code makes software run at all, Computer Human Interaction Design makes it used. Hence, it should receive equal consideration.
(alas, when interaction designers have to take courses so they can explain people what they do, software isn't going to become more 'usable' anytime soon;-)
How about ditching trying to get your dad to learn 'conventional' emailing and getting him an Ericsson Chatpen (http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=ERIC_CHA TPEN).
This is win-win thing - he can write you as much as he likes and you'll be forced to reply in writing.
I seem to remember having read different stories about organic farming actually yielding more produce than conventional farming.
(The difference was largely attributed to crop rotation being used in organic farming, leading to the soil becomming less 'exhausted' than on a single-crop scheme)

As someone pointed out, this is just another bit leading the way to having our habits controlled by corporations.
If one continues the current trend, it won't be long before we switch on the tv and have to watch particular shows (whatever the time), as advertisers would rather have that. Then we get computers where one can only run particular software...
Funny you mention it, locking one's hardware, as M$ has done, is oft cited as the reason Apple never got a larger marketshare....against M$ amongst others...
if the picture up on the link is real, I must say it does carries a certain resemblance to Bang Olufsens' music systems. See for yourself

Ok, fair enough, unamerican.org does have clothing with those texts. However, only pointing to those provides a somewhat unrepresentative sample.
For instance, you can also find clothing with the following:
- "set me free" (with an image of a tv)
- "wage slave" (w/ factory image)
- "your ad here" (w/ image of greenbacks)
- "talk is cheap" (w/ image of bomb)
- "keep music evil"
- "I am confused"
- "join us" (w/ people & ufos)
- "nature is pissed"
- "not for sale"
... and so on - the page really deserves a visit
(but, as the original poster mentioned,
you may be offended...)

Ahhh! I see, so you suggest converting the video to DivX, burning it onto CD, and, then, putting it and a XBox in cold storage?
