Nice - this was my first monetary contribution to child's play and the eff. I kicked in more than average apparently, but I did so purely because of the charity angle, otherwise what I initially wanted to pay was much closer to the average.
I'm not too crazy about how he uses numbers. He talks about the amount of oil released naturally in US waters over a year, and compares that to the amount released in a single location in a few days. That's really not a meaningful comparison.
And comparing it to what happens in other places doesn't make sense either. The fact that it happens more often and more severely in other places does not impact the damage this will or wont cause.
I'd be happy to hear that this wont be all that bad if the news were backed up by meaningful facts.
I've always found it to be nice once you get past the village and down into the camp grounds. The further you go, the better it gets.
I grew up in AZ and spent a lot of time up on the rez with some good friends that have family there. It's a rather complicated mess and not as simple as the native americans "cleaning up their act".
The trail down is gorgeous as well, with some rather ancient drawings to be found along the way. This is all making me home sick. I miss the desert.
I've camped down there a few times. It's a great hike in and out and just a beautiful place to spend some time. Reserve your spots early, the space is limited.
We could never verify either way on those conditions. I could really use a grand.
I see a lot of iphone users and developers going on about it incessantly - techcrunch would be a good place to get a taste. Apple's policies and their enforcement of them are absurd to the point of being comical.
There isn't anyone upset with the app store inconsistency and stupidity that owns an iPhone? Really?
And I'm not sure what you are betting on. That this will get widespread attention or that it will be news to anyone. You stated in the first post that everyone already knows about the problems with app store approval, so I'm guessing you believe that it already gained widespread attention.
So I'm guessing that you are betting 1 grand that there wont be a single person surprised by Apple's decision in this instance. If that's the case I may want to take you up on it.
I did that as soon as I saw I had no email. It says the same thing it said back when I signed up.
"Thanks for reserving your FREE instant streaming disc for your Wii console.
You don't need to do anything else - your instant streaming disc for Wii will ship automatically when it is available this spring."
I signed up for this as soon as I heard about it. I just checked the email account assoicated with my Netflix account and there is nothing there yet. Hopefully soon, I've been really looking forward to this.
Nothing too surprising, though the console remark with regards to gaming made me chuckle. I agree, but there are a lot of people working very hard to avoid dealing with that reality.
The water comes back in the form of grain, to feed the starving masses here on earth. The grain is put into metal cases and launched downhill via magnetic catapult.
Send prisoners up, they mine the ice, grow the food and send it down. Very nice system for earth until the loonies revolt.
This is reflected in the framing here as well. The ipad can beat netbooks? Well, for the money I can get something better than a netbook. But that comparison wont be as flattering so the bar is pushed lower.
That's a great idea. Boycotts are such an incredibly effective tool for small groups holding a minority position. Remember when the southern baptists effectively shut down Disney with their boycott? I think Disney still hasn't recovered. If every single person that is passionate about software patents boycotts Amazon I think we'll see the same level of amazing success in bringing about real change.

That number would be more encouraging if the amount coming out were not so massive. This spill is going to create a lot of suck for years to come.
I think it is safe to say we earned our Fark tag the hard way.

I think Grossman gets it right in the last paragraph of his Time article.

Yes, it will be.
This is the kind of thing, as xbeefsupreme points out, that will rise to the level that it garners attention beyond the realm of geekdom.
It's humorous that you seem to think government run health care wont benefit some "wealthy fat cat".
And don't get me wrong, I'm not happy at all with the current health care system in the U.S. Before and after the current 'reform'.
But talking about 'free' health care is the worst kind of fiction. I don't think that kind of misinformation helps anyone.
And I disagree that there is some "guy who doesn't have to pay for it". Everybody pays one way or another, tanstaafl.
give?

You thought wrong.

So close to one of my favorite quotes from "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"
'That had produced a Scandinavian shout: “Ja, cobber! Tell ‘em send us hoors! Tousands and tousands
of hoors! I marry ‘em, I betcha!”'

Having been a Heinlein fan for the last 30 or so years, I have to say this makes me happy inside.

There's no issue to address when dealing with a troll.
A good example is the fact that the sentence above is wasted on you.
you should call it a $la$hverti$ement. That would make you even more right.
Is it cool or is it whack?
