"Have you ever thought that if you wanted something to be improved, then maybe you should just speak up and offer a solution instead of quietly or publicly venting without offering any input? Nothing changes by staying the same. Companies are listening, and as taboo as it may seem, most of them want to make their users happy....."
You know, I did exactly just that and offered Microsoft a few ideas as to how they could improve Windows Vista (done during their beta program). And you know what Billg said to me? "That's the dumbest fucking idea I've heard since I've been at Microsoft."
Sure, but you'll still have the same problems as mentioned above.... the expense of providing these tablets to students, the expense of repairing them when students drop or break them or when the hardware fails,... etc.
I prefer passing around an external HDD -- say 500GB's or so -- amongst a group of friends. Everyone puts whatever music (or videos) they have on it and then they just pass it around until everyone's had the chance to copy what's on there.
But not everyone needs to have a GeForce Go 7900 or whatever GPU in their notebooks. The GMA 950 is perfectly suitable for those who just use their notebooks to browse the web, send emails, etc.
There were a couple of instances where even after I pointed out and they verified that the price of an item was lower through their website, they still denied me the lower price. They usually tell me something to the effect of, "Well, we sometimes have special sales that are only available online. If you want that price, I suggest you order it online and select in-store pick-up or something."
I usually don't buy stuff from Best Buy, but it doesn't help when you receive gift cards from family members.
I've learned that if there's something I want, I just order it from Bestbuy.com, select in-store pick-up, and pay with my gift card(s).
The less time I have to spend dealing with those know-nothing employees, the better.
Don't know about you, but I wouldn't call $20 a ridiculous amount to pay for a set of restore disks. And you can avoid paying the $20 or so by burning your own set of restore disks... my HP notebook prompted me to do so when I first turned it on. It just burns an image of the restore partition on the C: drive. If you forget or decide you want to do it later, it will/can remind you again in a couple days or so.
"But perhaps Social Computing too is just badger's paws?""
Nah... It's just nothing (as in move along, nothing to see here).

Are you sure?
I wanted to buy this Tori Amos album. Guess what? It's NOT $9.99.
Same thing with this Elvis Costello album and ths Buena Vista Social Club album.
Please do a little research before spreading this FUD.

Sounds like they need to get rid of Sam Palmisano instead.

Cool!
silencing them would make people hate/dislike SCO any less.
"sharks with frickin' laser" posts...

But why bother doing the upgrades to it when an Apple certified refurb Mac mini with
# 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo
# 512MB memory
# 60GB hard drive
# combo drive
is only $519?
After doing all the upgrades, the price difference between it and the refurb Mac mini won't be that much.
D' Oh! Hit submit too soon.

Bill Gates, was that you who modded me down?
Surprised nobody's mentioned Windows Vista yet.
It's bound to be a bigger flop than Windows ME....

No fingers, you insensitive clod!
SP1 for Vista will correct the problem and the Internets will be free again....
Don't think anyone's asked this, but how is Cisco going to react to Apple naming their phone iPhone?

the question on everyones mind is whether these even-more-overclocked PCs will be able to run Windows Vista?

I can't imagine that too many people would switch to this from Final Cut Pro.
And for those wondering, this will NOT be a Universal Binary. It has been built from scratch and will only run on Intel-based Macs.
Adobe's press release.
