  1. Publicity Stunt Anyone? on Anti-Tesla Pickup Truck Drivers Take Over a Supercharger Station -- Again (electrek.co) · · Score: -1

I grew up a hillbilly, so I know connecting the dots is not the easiest for some folk. But, I don't see a world where protesting a charging station makes any sense or accomplishes anything significant.

  2. Back when Slashdot was "News for Nerds" this story wouldn't be posted. Not sure why it is here other than a limited connection based on all of us wanting to retire at some point. Also, pensions were dropped in favor of 401Ks, less risk to the company and more challenge for the worker. Still, not sure why this is Slashdot worthy. Obviously, my two cents.

I couldn't remember the name of the book or the author. When I searched for Neuromancer, The Difference Engine was on the list. So, this would be my current favorite by William Gibson. I have Neuromancer on hold at the library and will read it soon.

  4. Created to serve pornography on An Image Site Is Victimizing Countless Women and Little Can Be Done (vice.com) · · Score: 1

Much of the internet and its technologies were built to share pornography. Sites like this give us all a chance to abuse women and not let the elite pornography producers be the only ones in the game. Yeah, technology and social networks!

By Jenny Lawson. She is a very popular blogger that writes about her depression in this book. It feels quite manic at times but overall a very engaging story. I also enjoyed Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Rober Pirsig, which eventually explores the idea of Flow. You just have to be looking for it. And War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells was the best fiction because unlike the movies it is set in a time when we have zero technology. Imagine fighting aliens when the telegraph was the "big thing" in tech.

I agree that putting the blocker on the PC will not solve the problem. There should be something on the router that handles this process. Then it will filter everything in the home, not just on one new PC. Seriously when was the last time you bought a PC from a manufacturer? Other than a Mac Something?

What they found in Mexico when they changed how they handled prostitution was more workers had to be found and so they "brought" them in from other countries in Central America. Essentially increasing the human trafficking to meet the "legal" demand for sex workers.

  8. If Pornography made us healthy ... on Donald Trump Signs Pledge To Crack Down On Internet Porn (pcworld.com) · · Score: 1

First I am going to point out that EiE is mainly about protecting children. Second, if porn is so good for us why aren't we healthier with better relationships. See this story for more.

  9. Re:Just look what good has come from banning porn on Starbucks and McDonald's Announce Porn Blocks On Their Wi-Fi Networks (cnn.com) · · Score: 1

The countries that you are talking about have draconian laws that hold women accountable for “tempting” the men to sin. The do not look at their own part in the problem and don’t address how they objectify women.

If you are truly concerned about women, then you would be anti-porn. According to some studies 83% of women would leave the porn industry “if they could”. These women experience significant health and drug abuse issues as a result of working in the industry.

So, while you are correct that some countries with strong porn bans are also abusive to women, it is a correlation and not a root cause that you are seeing.
