Yeah... uhm.. a group I am involved in... "The Philadelphia Dumpster Divers" participates.. and has, for at least 4 out of the 5 that the baltimore race has been running... this year... we had a vehicle that I'm surprised wired didn't cover.... we had a VIRTUAL VEHICLE. We even won awards for it.
BTW, the sock puppet is NOT a new rule. Infact we have won for best sock puppet I believe 3 of the years.. (don't quote me on that.)
For more information on the Dumpster Divers, and related project(s) you can check http://www.pleasetake.org/
Infact I'm going down there in May for a party with some of the other kinetic racers and friends.
Go to the supermarket, or wherever you're supposed to get this turkey, and tell them you're a vegetarian or something, and ask for a few packages of frozen vegetarian lasagna or something else.
Or donate the turkey to a shelter, or to a friend's dinner (and make them take you out to dinner later.)...
and I have no clue what it's called, or for that matter how to describe it too well.
but there was this feature.. a small window that would display all your 'virtual screens/desktops'... say, you had four different screens, then on each screen it would display small versions of the windows you had open on each screen. Then, if you wished, you could move these small versions of each window amongst the 'virtual screens' by moving them in this small display from one of the squares which represented the one screen to the other.. would move the actual windows amongst the actual screens. You could also get to each screen by simply clicking on it's representation in the window. I'm sure it could do plenty of other things, but that's how I used it.
Sounds more like DID (Dissasociative Identity Disorder) -- you know, MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) which was renamed and incorporated under a spectrum of DIDs. . lots of MPDs often get misdiagnosed as schizophrenic.. however, the two disorders are quite different. That whole "repressive thing" and the adaptation and the "unsettling things" seriously point towards DID rather than schizophrenia. Look it up in the DSM-IV (Diagnostic Statistical Manual (?) of the American Psychiatric Association), or elsewhere.
BTW, women can have sex or have their hymens broken (for whatever reason) and still have some of it remaining, thusly at a later date have it broken further thus causing bleeding. There are also other reasons why a woman might bleed during or after sex. Also, while I don't know all the details of this alleged rape.. there are other ways that a woman can be raped, not to mention, just because one is raped doesnt mean full penetration took place for whatever reason.
BTW, I don't think there is any real basis to "schizophrenia skips generations" I think it "runs in families" rather than "skips generations". It's just a matter of a genetic predisposition to something. You don't need to explain to her "the risk of her having kids" it's not like if her mom had cancer, her kid would get cancer. It doesn't work that way.
You know, I probably could/should find www references for these things, but I'm too tired.. you'll just have to either look it up somewhere or take my word for it.
Interestingly enough, www.slackware.com (yes, the Linux Distro.) is listed in the most recent 3.0.1/3.1 as a "personal" site. DUH.
Also interesting, is that while www.slackware.com is listed, slackware.com is not.

You said you don't reboot often.. do you also not take it out of your house? a good security measure to keep retention or not lose your laptop to theft is... should it get stolen... and someone does something stupid like use it to log onto the net.. that the features you normally use (instant messaging, etc.) would make a tracable record for you to find it's location of use...
Are you really that concerned about someone getting their hands on your 'sensitive data' without your password or even most likely, a knowledge of unix-like systems?:P Geesh, why don't you just encrypt it?
If you format the drive... you make it nice and easy for any thief/fence to simply put a new OS back on it and pass it along clean... I mean you REALLY don't want someone putting MS Windows on your laptop, now DO YOU? Gotta prevent THAT!:P
Uhm, what are you talking about? That All-In-One Model you mention, ISN'T a phone at all. It is ONLY a wireless headset that you can connect to a phone.
Well, I'd say search Radioshack.com, often they have a lot of models online that they don't have in their stores.. and different sales, availability, etc.
As far as a corded model, I recently got the 43-2151 or ET-2151 which is a good CORDED model. It's got Caller ID & Call-Waiting ID (for those of you not in the know, a phone or other device has to be capable of Callwaiting ID to receive the caller ID data for the second incoming call, which a lot of devices don't have.), is small, and is just well designed. I was also able to get this on sale for $29.95.
I think it leads to a number of aspects to look at.. the size of the keypad/control on your wireless device, the headset (how particular are you, is there one type you like over another, does it have interchangable headsets - in other words a standard jack, so you can change the headset if you want?), what type of batteries or battery pack does it use?, does it have caller ID/call waiting ID, how durable is it, and of course, what is the price?
First, determine what you want, and need, and then go shopping. Personally, the cordless models for what I want are not yet in a price I wish to pay. I've noticed that you can get some good ones at a decent price, however, they are the lower end 900mhz and such models, and their security isn't as good as I would like it to be.

Share the Technology: is a NATIONAL database, post your info, and organizations can search by location or by type of equipment. http://www.sharetechnology.org
As far as receipts go, you don't need one if your donation is worth less than $200. However, I am sure plenty of organizations would still be willing to give you a receipt, either way. How do you handle it? You find someone interested in your donation (a 501(c)3) and then you simply ASK for your receipt upon exchange.:)
As always, check with your tax lawyer, accountant, CPA, or whatever.. also, the IRS actually has a very good website with all the information you need, in fairly plain english, a database to look up organizations, and a fairly good telephone information hotline to call for specific questions.
In addition to this, my nonprofit (as listed in the URL in the headers..) is in need of one or two good systems for our offices, and also looking for laptop or PDA systems, as our work takes us around the region. We are located in Philadelphia, PA. We will accept parts, and non-standard equipment, we also work in conjunction with a number of local computer recycling organizations. CARP:Creative Arts Resource Project
Well, we're thinking about a coast-to-coast event-to-event communication via webcam, or at least irc, etc.. but I hadn't thought of webcam live-broadcast. We don't currently have the technology available/in place, but if you or anybody else is interested in helping to make this happen, with either hardware or otherwise, let me know.
East-Coast Linux10 Celebration will be happening on the same day (August 25) and, while we are starting a few hours earlier (due to timezones), we will be concurrently happening during the rest of the time. .

Greetings,
I am involved in a non-profit org. that does just this. (CARP - the Creative Arts Reuse Project) our major project has been the Please Take M.E. (Materials Exchange) -- which in two years saved 7 tons of materials with only a 3000 sq. ft warehouse. The Please Take is run in conjuction with a local Dumpster Diving group (yes, and the DDers are 40+ people strong). While our major interest is in the Arts (and the environment, of course) our finds/materials are definitely cool for science teachers, home improvement, computing both vintage and current, robotics, and all sorts of other geek/nerd hobbies. We also work in conjunction with a very vibrant local computer-reuse community. Right now we're looking for a new warehouse space, but we have new office space and are really ramping up activity again. There is recent talk of white LEDs, lots of welding, cat5 cable, and 5,000 watt bulbs. Anyways, if you're in the Philadelphia region (or not) and are interested in ANY sorts of creative reuse of materials, scrounging, arts, the environment, dumpster diving, curb crawling, etc etc etc.. feel free to check out our (basic) website above, and by all means drop me an email.
Oh, and if you just happen to need a tax deduction, we are an official 501(c)3 nonprofit;)

My AE-ms is true.
You're forgetting the fact that they're going to use the camera system to not only identify your face and who you are, but also the fact that you are distributing this "illegal" DeCSS and also that "This Shirt is A Munition" that you wear. Then, they are going to take you in, and charge you for wearing a t-shirt. Then, they are going to use this as "probable cause" to get a warrant and search your house, your computer, and all your belongings. Then, under RICO statutes, they are going to take all those belongings, and sell them to pay for your stay in the corporate... errr, uhhmm... I mean federal penetentiary...
Since you say LUG, I would assume maybe Wireless.. for usage while everybody is at one central location.. although you could mean to set up a Wide-Area Network (more like a Metropolitan Area Network...) with members of your LUG...

Sorry, but you've got this one totally wrong. You're applying standard business deductions to charitable deductions.
You can deduct out-of-pocket expenses from giving services to non-profit organizations.
From http://www.irs.gov/prod/forms_pubs/pubs/p52602.htm
Out-of-Pocket Expenses in Giving Services
You may be able to deduct some amounts you pay in giving services to a qualified organization. The amounts must be:
Unreimbursed,
Directly connected with the services,
Expenses you had only because of the services you gave, and
Not personal, living, or family expenses.
What do I do? I (volunteer) work with an Arts & Environmental Nonprofit 501(c)3 organization called CARP, the Creative Artists Resource Project. Our major project is the Please Take M.E. (Materials Exchange) which we run in conjunction with a group called the Philadelphia Dumpster Divers. In the years 1998-2000 we saved approximately 7 tons of unwanted stuff from the waste stream with only a 3000 sq. foot space to run the Materials Exchange. We've been homeless (the organization, not personally) for little over a year and have finally gotten a small building for office space just THIS MONTH so we'll be ramping up activity greatly and supporting efforts both creative and technical in any way we can not to mention distributing information on arts and environmental techniques and ideas as much as we can.
You can find out more about us at our temporary website, which of course needs some serious updating. There are some good links to some articles, a few of our members sites and a great exhibition we had at the local EPA office.
If you want to know more feel free to email me and ask away! I'm also interested in all sorts of technology and communication issues that I feel suitably fit our purpose also (you can read a posting I just made today to our local LUG mailing list about some of this stuff.)
[Plea to the Slashdot crowd: we are in need of just one or two decent computers or parts and peripherals & office equipment which will seriously help us to ramp up activity and gain productivity again. If you have anything which you might like to donate please drop me an email -- remember we're a non-profit so it's tax deductable too! 8)]

Uhm... NO.
If you turn a machine on (or off.) you change the state of a machine, and thusly, destroy potential evidence.
If they're dropping into your place secretly to install a 'bug' program or hardware piece, then they might turn it on or off..
But, if they just want your data they won't even use any of your hardware to get it, but will just remove your drive and then clone your drive.
