    the antenna is actually 5dbi.. its such a shame they used such a weak antenna for the test... and it was inside the cabin.. you'd think they would have realized the planes shell would effect how many APs they found.

    no, actually you do go running. with 30 minutes of anti skip protection, how do you go wrong? ive gone snwoboarding, (jumps, half pipes, cliff drops) and no skips happen. Ive also gone on 20 mile crosscountry mountain bike rides with mine and it has never skipped a beat. ive dropped it on a treadmill and watched it fly across the room from the belt, and it kept on playing. borrow a ipod from a friend and give it a try. i cant begin to explain how damn cool they are.

    In test trials 2-3x is the average seen. 5x does happen, and so does 9x from time to time. ...and to the claim that it requires a client? that is not true. (blatent plug http://www.pacwest.com/dialbroadband/) this wholesale solution for ISPs is clientless.

    hopefully your vlans are physically separate ethernet segments.. cus god knows cisco acls are the worst way to secure a box. a simple test with hping2 generated traffic can prove my claims.

    This makes me angry!!!! someone, pleasseeee look though the net and find a previous work of this. I was actually just thinking about this last night as I was chatting on Soulseek and some spanish speakers had a convo going.. I was pasting it into "the fish" to read it, and the idea hit me. I really, really hope this patent doesn't go through.. not only will microsoft provide crappy software but they will control how we communicate around the world.

    Akamai does not do transparent caching. they host files for large sites on networks all over to help cut down on internet congestion and link usage. they bring the content closer to the end users. Transparent caching is entirely different. If you want to know more about transparent caching a few good places to start would be on WCCP and GRE.

    my companys voice mail server used to get hacked all the time. we have over 20,000 mail boxes so toll fraud is something that we just had to deal with. A simple fix for our problem.. turn off the ability to dial out of the voice mail server, and viola, problem solved. :)

    give me a break. linux 'passwd' will warn if a password is too short or weak.. and if you are smart you dont allow root to ssh or telnet into your box directly.. so it wouldnt be possible to run an app with root priv anyway.

    Windows wasn't meant to be secure.. it was meant to be easy.

    dollar per gig comparisons between scsi and ide are like compairing apples to oranges.

    SCSI benifits over IDE:
    320 megabytes per second
    more devices per chain
    scsi controller does most if not all of the proccessing (watch you rcpu load when you do a large file transfer with ide hard drives)
    faster latencies
    longer warrenties
    higher quality parts
    and im sure there is more to add.. the above are the reasons that matter most to me.

    Just because you un-weld the hood of the car doesn't mean you can make that outdated-15-HP-two-cylinder-powered-pinto-with-squ are-wheels run any better. The *nix communities will not be hurt in any way from this. We started out a step ahead of the game and we will always be one step ahead in the future.

    Was it illegal for WorldCom to lie about the percentage of traffic that hit their network? Obviously it is in a grey area, and being that WorldCom had a minor monopoly it was easy for them to do. Business is a dog eat dog world. It's interesting to see how creative businesses will get when they want to throw off their compeditors. It makes you stop and wonder if WorldCom gave out correct information how much money would have been saved by their compeditors, and who would not have gone bankrupt.
