Yeah, maybe they should have chosen a different mail client to sync with, like, er... Oh, I can't think of any Linux ones, BECAUSE NO-ONE USES IT.

Also, newsflash, outlook gets hit by viruses because it can be scripted and allows the user to screw up their own system by running exe's. Neither of these things will screw a device that syncs with it. So there.

Oh yeah, outlook gets targetted by viruses primarily not because it's got craploads of holes in it, but because everyone uses it. Because everyone uses windows! READ IT AND WEEP!

By that logic, you're saying that anything slashdot don't review 'has little to be desired'. Therefore they would have to review EVERYTHING else otherwise you would think it bad. Get some coffee man, you're acting nuts!

Apart from 'funny' posts, you get most points on slashdot by posting things that agree with the general groupthink, anti-MS rants etc etc. If those people paid far less than those who posted alternate points of view (whose posts always get hammered as 'troll' or 'flamebait') then this site would become even more of an open source wankfest that it already is, which would be quite some achievement.

Er, this sounds wrong to me too. Why do you people have to drag MS into everything. And the fact is, YES, MS would kick their ass. But cos this is open-source code, their is no-one with the financial backing to sue their ass, plus they are unlikely to find out in the first place.

  7. Re:Quick Learning on C · · Score: 3, Interesting

Learning C as your first language, without any prior computer experience may not be the most clever thing to do. Programming C efficiently, correctly and clearly is best achieved by first understanding computer architecture and programming concepts.

A higher level language provides the abstractions necessary to accommodate "logical thinking" as opposed to a full understanding of say memory management and system I/O. Also, C is quite an orthogonal language in that it supports many awkward combinations of features and constructs. If you are not careful to make your source text clear and readable, debugging even your own code can be oh so cumbersome.

I would totally disagree. Learning a higher-level language, like Java, first, will mean you miss out on learning all the basic stuff you would pick up in C which will stand you in good stead if you ever need to pick up other languages quickly.

    'N64 killed my son'
Web posted on 25/2/02 A Louisiana woman is suing Nintendo, after claiming her 30yr old son had seizures after playing on his N64 for 8 hours a day.

Gaming is addictive, and sitting too close to the screen can cause permanent damage, as can playing games for too long without a break. Nintendo are being sued for wrongful death, after a 30yr old Louisiana man suffered seizures after playing on his N64 console, even though they display clear warnings on game instructions that players should take a break every 15 minutes. The lawsuit, which was filed in a federal court last year, says the man died after hitting his head and mouth on a table during a seizure, apparently brought on by over-exposure to his favourite console.

The man's mother claims her son never once suffered a seizure before he bought the console, but she did admit that he played the N64 for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. His mother is seeking unspecified damages for the loss of her son, which are thought to include funeral and medical expenses, plus her son's lost future earnings. Quite how much someone can earn playing games 8 hours a day, 6 days a week remains to be seen, but that's the crazyness of the judicial system.
