I dunno if I wasnt looking anywhere, but I couldnt see exactly how much the media can store - I am assuming it can take an identical amount to a regular CD, but I cannot find clarification anywhere..

Pro'lly just not looking hard enough.

Just looking at this - reminds me of the really old 'printed' flexible vinyl records you used to get with magazines and cereal years and years ago - only the quality was awful, and they didnt last very long. What goes around comes around, eh? :)

Man.. choosing server names.. subject of BIG debates :)

We are currently undergoing a merger which requires us to unify with another site - we are starting from scratch with all our servers, so we get to pick a fresh naming convention. Gone are planets & space related items (Mars, Saturn, Halley, Hubble, Pluto..) and in are Greek Gods and related mythalogical(?) figures (Zeus, Hades, Castor & Pollux, Atlas).

I personally like the new scheme.. makes the systems sound important :)

Wow.. I cant actually believe they are going to start taxing customers for recording media.. how long before other countries follow suit? I know that, living in the UK, they tax EVERYTHING you do - I dont see why recordable media will be any different.

I can't believe that they are gonna tax you per GB on portable MP3 players though.. I am genuinely stunned. Though seeing as some of the coolest ones use laptop harddrives, why not sell the MP3 players as 'bare bones' and then make you go buy the laptop drive seperately :)

    What a stupid stupid tax..

There aint much point in guessing how good or bad the film is going to be.. though I am really hoping that its gonna be good - I need SOME excuse to finally go and see a Star Wars movie on the big screen (too young to see the originals first time around, and rather lamely watched Phantom Menace as a 'look what I taped in the cinema' video CD).

Certainly seems a little darker than Phantom - and the new Boba Fett style character looks pretty cool.

And of course, Natalie Portman.. any excuse :)

Perhaps we need to look at what we are doing.

Seeing as it was really one of the first films ever to use Computer Graphics to produce such an impressive end result, I wonder how many of the (apparently few) people watching saw what was going on and realised it was time to change what they were doing and get into the computers in a BIG way?

I have to say.. if Tron wasn't a HUGE advert to show what potential computers had back then, I dont know what else was.

It still astounds me what they managed to do in 1982... I was still using a BBC Micro in 1990 and being really surprised what that could do!

They downloaded a total of 19.8GB in two days..
If they stayed awake for the full 48 hours, they would have been downloading 412.5MB/hour of data between them. That seems quite possible I guess if they were downloading constantly. But assuming they took 8 hours of sleep a day and didnt download files during that time, that would have been 618.8MB/hour..

I dunno - theoretically, these stats are quite possible, but including all the time it would take to actually find the music, and have to cancel from unreliable sources, it just doesn't make sense for me.

Now maybe they can cut some of the cinema prices? I couldnt help but notice that the prices keep ticking up, whilst the adverts get longer and longer..
