  1. Re:When was it lost!?!? on Pandora Loses 7 Million Listeners (siliconvalley.com) · · Score: 1

You answered your own question. Spotify has twice the listeners and 14 times the paid listeners.

Also, you can pick what you listen to on Spotify, while Pandora still has that bullshit "Due to streaming rights we cannot skip this song or replay it". Their algorithm is cool, but it's not enough when you ignore and annoy your users, even when they pay.

  2. It's their own damn fault on Pandora Loses 7 Million Listeners (siliconvalley.com) · · Score: 1

My paid Pandora subscription ended last month, and in the one day between expiration and getting around to renew the subscription, the ads and awful nagging got so bad I simply won't renew it. They have advertised their way out of having me as a customer.

It was the worst listening experience I can imagine. One or more commercials between every single song, sometimes a minute or more in length. Video ads loading and playing flashing battle scenes and shit while my phone was on my dashboard, in my car, driving, at night. Constant "With Pandora Plus..." ads, sometimes even cutting off the end of the songs.

Good job, you killed your business.

I wouldn't take code from an existing job - that's just looking for trouble. For my last code sample, I took a tool I built for my own use, modified it slightly to be more general-use, and submitted that.

It was a custom exporter for several Autodesk programs that demonstrated my 3D math knowledge, use of existing commercial APIs, and a full OpenGL rendering system. It was about 1500 lines and got me the job without issue. Took me about a day to make, including the original tool development.

Microsoft fired all their competent Windows devs and now they're realizing(or should be if they have a clue) "Have the customer beta test everything" is not a good way to go.

It's not the fastest, easiest, or prettiest, but it works and it's solid as a rock all around. The only shortcoming for C++ is poorly trained developers.

  11. I could do it in C#, it would look better, work better, and be easier to maintain.

Not sure how you jumped all the way back to assembly.

And your analogy of Michaelangelo is super flawed. Python's scripting language is the equivalent of using punch cards to have an automated paintbrush draw something every time you want to look at it, whereas a compiled language is more like looking at a normal painting.

Most places offering a proper, livable salary are going to require at least some college, which adds even further to the cost of living and the wages you need to earn.
