I know how negative it sounds but a lot of the people I know who would fall into that catagory of questioning why the computer sold without it costs less would (I suspect) jump to the conclusion that it's "lacking" in some way or that they're getting less for their dollar.
I know how silly that sounds but I can see them thinking "what's wrong with this one?" as they try to work out the pluses and minuses of the deal.
I don't. They don't think the computer "runs" Windows, they think the computer IS Windows.
I try not be so damned pessimistic about these kinds of things but I spend all day supporting these monkeys and I've reached the conclusion that there's almost no hope for them.
Some people will pick up on the differences but they're in the vast minority. Still I guess a few is better than none at all.
Unfair comparison yes, unrealistic comparison, no. The pod is going to look at two numbers and three letters and make his or her choice.
2.5, 80, DVD
vs
2.4, 60, _____? Where's the DVD?
P4, Celeron, AMD, Athlon? They don't give a fart about these things. They look for the bigger numbers and ask the dipstick selling them "Is it compatible?" (With what? they don't even really know) and that's about it.
People are sheep. Actually they're lambs stuck to the Microsoft "teet". You aren't going to pry them loose with anything Linux can or will offer in the next decade.
A person found guilty of writing a virus gets a death sentence. I'm still undecided on whether it's stoning or shoving a live snake up their ass but that's a trivial detail.
I so seriously hate those guys. If a button that caused all their heads to explode appeared before me no power in the universe could prevent me from pressing it. Repeatedly.
And that shit's going to be broken in a matter of days if I give it to my 12 year old. No chance whatsoever of me putting one of those under the Christmas tree if it comes in over $300 either.
Very slick, very nice looking, very much not something I'm interested in buying.
Damn! I waited because I thought there would be some left when I got off work this Friday. Now I'm going into the weekend and I've got no monkey. That's fucked!
Time to head on over to ebay and see what those monkey hoarding jerks are trying to get for one.
Granted the plot will probably be worthless but I don't see how you could possibly get that from a clearly labeled "Teaser Trailer" that was put together far in advance of them acutally filming anything.
It was a waste of time I agree. "Alien Vs Predator"...teaser shows an Alien and a Predator...yep, I got that.
You know they also give discounts for government employees (Federal, State and Local) that's either the same as the education discount or at least darned close. I ordered mine through the Apple Store online and got it delivered the afternoon before "Midnight Madness".
Oh man you just completely fucking nailed it. The people who are digging around trying to find something to bitch about iTunes are exactly the ones who have absolutely no intention of actually patronizing any legitimate download service. They want free as in beer and they will talk all day about how the artists are exploited and the record labels are crooks (both of which happen to be true) but when it all comes down to it they just want the keys to the vault handed to them with no restrictions. Nothing less will do.
They're not the people anyones trying to sell music to because they're not the people who will pay any money for it. Anything proposed is unreasonable. 99 cents is unreasonable, any format that drops a single bit (even if it's undetectable by human ears) is unreasonable. If the software isn't made available to whatever 0.003% market share holding operating system that they use it's unreasonable. Common sense is simply unreasonable.
Maybe if they came out with a service that had every track ever recorded for a penny a track (with ten for one pricing on weekends!) and no restrictions, that let you download it in a lossless format and you only paid on the honor system some of these people would use it.
Probably not though. I certainly wouldn't count on it. The only thing that approaches how unreasonable the RIAA can be is the demands of the gimmie something for nothing crowd.
And I want that bad boy small so it fits in my iPod. 1TB worth of music to go would be sweet. 1TB of music to go that's worth listening to would be better of course but there's zero chance of that happening.
"Maybe this post will bring my first "Troll" rating."
Son, you aren't doing it right if you haven't had some butt finger mod you "Troll" for daring to say something that doesn't fall in with the official party line.
I'm a Mac fanatic but the people who gloss over the issues are one step beyond and not doing the platform any favors with their zealotry.
Great system, not perfect and in fact far from it. Better than Windows? Yeah, I think so but then what isn't? I've got about ten Macs at the house and I've had a couple that were flaky as all hell. I've also had a couple that you could patch with an NT4 Service Pack and they would probably just keep on trucking. Damned near bullet proof. I've never figured out why some were so fragile and others weren't. It is downright odd though.
Ok, while I think the poster here is a bit over the top "immoral and unethical? Please!) he is correct about the original poster not being "Insightful". If anything it was the often described but rarely understood "Blinding flash of the obvious".
And for the record I copy music regularly and don't find it either immoral or unethical. It could simply be that I'm ammoral though. I dunno.
In your supported hardware examples I note that I don't see video Cards or network cards mentioned. Is this an oversight or is the support for such things as dismal now as it was back when I bought 4.5?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed BeOS and got pretty enthused about it but I found that it didn't network worth beans and the list of good cards supported was wanting. I'd like to think that it's come along since then. Has it?
Oh and for my money I'll take the "Our way, the only way" Apple approach. I haven't found anything I like better than the OSX experience. I once thought BeOS was going to be the OS that did something like this to Intel boxes. Maybe it still will be.
Simply put the first rule of Windows Update is to not update your drivers through it. Everyone going there regularly should carve the following into the plastic on their monitor
"IGNORE THE DRIVERS SECTION COMPLETELY"
Oddly enough you can "personalize" Windows Update to not show you certain recommended updates but there's no way I've found to make it stop showing you those driver updates. Of course they're maybe the most dangerous thing on the page.
Dude, no offense but you seriously need to shut the fuck up about that. You've probably got people in Hollywood working the details out on one of those right now.
It would never get made, not even in this day and age. You've got nothing to build up to. Everyone knows that Jason, the Aliens, Predators, Godzilla, and the freakin Death Star would all fit neatly inside that giant ass on JLo. Anyone who's ever layed eyes on her could tell you how that movie would end without even watching the trailer (which would take about three days to stream if you DID want to download it. Her ass is that big.)
At least pit it against something that has a chance like the ego on George Lucas or the balls of soon to be Governor Arnold.
Better yet why don't we see if those little gloves from the OJ trial fit Otzi. According to the juice he's out there somewhere. This just might be the break he's been waiting for to clear his name!

Sign me up for coldhearted fascism then.
Who's naughty on this plane? THIS GUY!

Nice reply.
"Spend a few years learning English first", that was good.

$69 including tax. Not bad.
See, information really does want to be free
At least "duty free"

Go ahead, Troll me. Like I give a shit.
You have created the post that I'm going to base the rest of my day on. I bow before your posting power.
And I want that bad boy small so it fits in my iPod. 1TB worth of music to go would be sweet. 1TB of music to go that's worth listening to would be better of course but there's zero chance of that happening.

With both my G5 Dual 2Ghz AND my 17" PowerBook believe it or not.
My iPod (which I can afford) however remains completely unaffected. Go Figure!
And I'm able to do so because I didn't download the point release.
Started to, then thought better of it. Best to wait a few days. Maybe that's because I've used one too many Microsoft products or something.
Alright people with the mod points make for the modding up for this kind soul.
I'm thinking something in a +5 Informative since there's no "Helpful"
