  1. Re:Bogus - My Attemp to Explain on Federal Judge Rules Against Intelligent Design · · Score: 1

Read my other comments and you'll see I agree. I don't understand why so many are ignoring interresting phenomena and patterns just because you dislike those noting them. It would be like ignoring gravity because you can't prove how it propigates and some priest is saying his god is making gravity.

  2. There you go... on Federal Judge Rules Against Intelligent Design · · Score: 1

Well, there you go. Maybe you can look at the geological and cosmological record to prove or disprove the hypothesis. As a pseudo-atheist I know that just as much good science comes from disproving a "bad" hypothesis as comes from proving "good" ones. I also know that putting blinders on to any approach to answering or asking questions is foolhardy.

But as a mostly-rational creature I find it interesting that all these physical phenomena do coincide in a system that is supposedly inherently entropic and prone to chaos. When you look at a satellite image and see a perfectly straight line in the forest in the middle of nowhere you have to at least be curious.

Just because you (and I mean you) can't fathom an experiment to prove a hypothesis does not invalidate the hypothesis. It just makes it an unproven hypothesis. But it is interresting to ponder how one would test Intelligent Design. Modify some physical constant and see what happens? How long would such an experiment last? Would looking at different periods of the history of the universe and checking for existance of like. After all, according to the BB these constants have changed. BTW:

Can't do ain't the best approach to science.

    1. Observation

Physical property X can vary from Y to Z but it doesn't. Slightest variation in X would preclude life.

Ex: Boiling point of water, melting point of ice, enzymatic reactions, patterns of moulcules and crystals, etc....

    2. Hypothesis

Possibly, some external stimulus is arranging the observed phenomena to ensure a suitable environment to enable life to exist.

    3. Experiment

Like gravity, we are still looking for answers on how it works at the physical level and how to verify.

Right now I use SciTe editor but I'm gonna be using Visual Studio if I have to write a free PHP plugin myself. I develop for a living and when it comes to productivity I just cannot use an IDE that flakes out or bogs down every 30 seconds. Even Zend Studio is a bugfest. I'm not gonna pay for the privledge of debugging someone else's software.

*Steam systems extra sensitive to corrosion from impurities in coolant.

  10. Consumer Trust on Sony Repents Over CD Debacle · · Score: 5, Interesting

I'm sure even Sony's dimwit management has to realize that they are losing sales due to slipping consumer trust. As media devices become more intelligent, the opportunities for manufacturers to secretely audit and control your use of media will increase. Trust wil become more and more important. Two years ago Sony was on my golden halo list of clever manufacturers. First I bought a Vaio computer and ran into severe issues upgrading the OS. Then I noticed that they keep pushing for proprietary formats for encoding and storage. Now this. Today a guy brought in a nifty looking PSP and all I could think of was what DRM easter eggs are waiting for the unwitting consumer.

  14. Re:The bottom line... on Superman V: The Sordid Story · · Score: 1

I never liked Superman because he was too perfect. Someone with that kind of power remaining uncorrupt just never jibed with reality. Superman has been redefined though. Shows like Smallville have been rehabilitating Superman into a more believable character. Older comics seemed to gloss over Superman's internal motivations. But that is changing. Even so, most of the time writers still blame Superman's moral missteps on foreign elements such as red kryptonite or mind controlling aliens.

Won't comment much on the anti-American rhetoric buuut....at least we are trying to do something. Add to that we are very open about our own problems and choose to face them rather than hide them or pretend they don't exist.
