Yes, Battlestar, Lost, 24, and Desperate Housewives are all very torrented...but they are also ADVERTISED. TV Guide does spreads on Lost. Fox constantly pushes 24...
Do you ever see UPN pushing Enterprise except and hour before and after it is on? I don't.
Still...a heavily used torrent like Star Trek should clue people in charge of the Neilson to rewrite the ratings system.
This season, if I were a Neilson diary family member I would give trek a score HIGHER than last season.
Lost, 24, and the others would score very high as well:)
Why are Neilson houses NOT watching Star Trek?/. opinions are/. opinions...but what does the average Joe think? They don't, because Enterprise is not being pushed in the mass media like other shows.
Enterprise sucked big time for a while, but I feel it is starting to come around and needs more time. In fact, by the end of the season most avid watchers will be hoping for more shows. (if things continue at the rate they are)
The problem is that cancelling is because of ratings...more so than any other problems you pointed out.
Bit Torrent kills ANY shows ratings. I got turned off by the Xindi arc...because it reminded me too much of 9/11 and crap.
So my friend downloaded all the episodes...lo and behold I watched the entire arc in a couple sittings.
Since the show arcs kinda sucked...I did not watch on broadcast television...I watched at my own pace when I was bored...and I started liking the show.
Bit torrent killed the ratings. Suprnova always had about 2500 seeds (I was told) and thousands of peers downloading the show.
Ratings were not really ever a problem...UPN is just looking at the wrong sources...get with the times and realize fans paying $5.00 per episode will generate enough money (iTunes...) to keep the show running forever.
I'm rambling...but I have a good points. Discuss.
- - - this is a repost from a comment that is in another thread, but I believe it needs discussion. Nobody EVER talks about torrents and their effect on shows.

my faith in humanity has been restored. Thank you for your insightful comentary.
What you mentioned really is the heart of the matter. Just make a damn game, let the player discover the plot, meet the characters, and enjoy the game.
I live in Seattle, sometimes my groceries are bagged by somebody who is obviously gay. I don't grab the announcement microphone and declare that I have just met a homosexual. It's not that big of a deal.
Of course if gay nude beach volleyball comes out that will probably make headlines:)
My buddy up here in Washington State bought an AK47 fully automatic for $600 dollars no questions asked high on coke...seriously investigated??? no. bought from an actual gunshop...yes.
FWIW, he went bankrupt and had to pawn the damn thing;)
I immediatley zoomed in on the "or" part of the statement.
$23,660 / $455 = 52 weeks (This is salary)
$27.63 * 40 hr/week * 52 weeks = $57,470.40
So, if you make between $455 and $1105.20 per week you are not guaranteed overtime pay, nor is your employer obligated to pay.
Now, if I were in a similar situation, salary would be an option ONLY if my employer agreed compensate my income with overtime pay.
If you work for a company that kicks all ass, then working hourly IS basically like getting overtime ALL the time.
That $34,000 discrepancy is the fine line between a long term employment plan, and a foot out the door plain old job.
This actually reminds me of typical overseas outsourcing scenarious. Low money and security, or more money with freedom. (of course you can be fired anytime with the last)
PureVolume.com is a much better alternative to garageband and mp3.com. What I like most is how simple and clean each bands interface is. Check it out! http://www.purevolume.com
Also, many of the artists on purevolume have, or had started with mp3.com.
Okay, so out of the 3 reasons for the GIGANTIC SLUMP in sales...how should we add them up? Well, CD sales are down...and guess what online music store is kicking ass in the recording industries territory??? iTunes. Folks, I don't see a problem here.
Bad cd sales 1/3 of 7.6%, poor economic conditions...another 1/3 of 7.6% (-2.5%), and another 1/3 of 7.6% for video games.
Instead of blaming iTunes, Bush's unpopular war, and kick ass video games (the causes CNN states for this 7.6%) pirates are blamed for the lower cd sales. Arrr.
Fallacy: Ad Hominem. Pirates != reasons for 7.6% slump. Discuss.
...it's really great [sarcasm] to decide to use an email service based completely on open communications.
Lets see, how about advertisers start searching gmail.google.com for mentions of fast food outlets that I recently visited.
I just bought some new Lucky Brand jeans the other day. That Jeans company would be directly connected to me for advertising. probably cause I have a blog.
Email is for me, and message boards are for everybody. Can't some things just remain SACRED?
My 17" Optiquest V73 has been used and abused for 5 years now and shows no sign of quiting. Still sharp as hell and beats out some crap i've seen in Compusa and Circuit city (plasma and crt)
Exactly! Enterprise is not about showing how important the crew is to the very existance of future generations. I pictured it like a reverse Voyager (shut up all you Voyager haters!) with lots of new species, fleshing out the prime directive, and realy insightful story lines. "The Chosen Realm" was a great episode. While is screams social commentary, I didn't mind to much.
If the writers have to resort to the Delphic Expanse scenarios for plot startch, i'm going to be sorely dissapointed. I want more Alpha Quadrant action. Heh, why can't Enterprise discover Risa (sp?) and decide it's a great place for shore leave...only to find a dark secret hidden under ever rock...wait...now i'm sounding like the current writers.
While I applaud a government using Open Source to help citizens, this will only hurt the American economy. Microsoft is a HUGE part of our economy...(btw Mandrake/Open Office is what I use)...so isn't this a bittersweet victory?
P.S. If I am wrong please let me know, I just wanted to start a side discussion.
Maybe not philosopher, but he sure knows how to push peoples buttons. Likes yours:) for the last two bullets, please read this article... summary: he was young and stupid, was DATING a black girl (so he's not the racist that the Source claimed) and was pissed. We've all said stupid stuff before right?
Besides, those are just a few quotes. And you just chose bad ones.
How about this one: "Now you probably get this picture from my public persona that I'ma pistol packin' drug addict who bags on his mama. / But I wanna to just take this time out to be perfectly honest, cuz there's a lot of shit I keep bottled that hurts deep inside / of my soul. And just know that I grow colder the older I grow. This boulder on my shoulder gets heavy and harder to hold, / and this load is like the weight of the world, and I think my neck is breakin'. Should I just give up or try to live up to these expectations? / Now look, I love my daughter more than life in itself, but I got a wife that's determined to make my life livin' hell. / But I handle it well, given the circumstances I'm dealt. So many chances, man, it's too bad - could have had someone else/ But the years that I've wasted is nothing to the tears that I've tasted, so here's what I'm facin'?3 felonies, 6 years of probation. / I've went to jail for this woman, I've been to bat for this woman. I've taken bats to people's backs, bent over backwards for this woman. / Man, I should have seen it coming. What did I stick my penis up in? Wouldn't have ripped the pre-nup up if I'da seen what she was fuckin.' / But fuck it, it's over. There's no more reason to cry no more. I got my baby, baby the only lady that I adore / (Hailie). So sayonara, try tommorra, nice to know ya. Our baby's traveled back to the arms of her rightful owner. / And suddenly it seems like my shoulder blades have just shifted. It's like the greatest gift you could get. The weight has been lifted."
And why stop at sex offenders? Say I have no kids, but an expensive car? Shouldn't I be able to know that the guy next door was convicted of stealing cars? I'm not equating car theft with sex offences, but I do believe that the law should treat all people equally.
disclaimer: I do not like sex offenders.
The guy next door (car theif) did not diddle with your four year old child, changing them for life, only having to serve 5 years of jail time.
Awareness is the best protection for kids AND sex offenders. It ammounts to a kind of support group helping a sex offender from re-offending.
Granted, there have been cases where the registry provided the public with enough information to drive a sex offender out. BUT, Oprah (last year) had a show spotlighting a registered sex offender who has functioned very normally since his release from prison. Where he lives, people respect and admire the fact that he comes clean with everybody he meets. He says that without a support group he would probably re-offend. The law freed him from prison, and this guy had the conviction to do something about himself.
Anonymity is an offenders greatest weapon. I believe the sex offender registry is a necessary tool.
You are not alone. I thought my browser was rending the page wrong...cause I had just deleted my cookies, not logged in and it was normal...then all of a sudden after logging in with my user account there were vertical adds. It took me a few minutes to determine that INDEED it was a layout change. UGLY, and anoying.
I guess i'm just used to the horizontal adds. Seriously...if Slashdot goes the way of gamespy networks...or even the "click here to read your story" with a huge ass advertisement like a game site I will not mention....there will be hell to pay.

Ugh, except sendmail is ALWAYS turned on by default...
Which begs the question...Gmail is going to be an open email system...searchable...vulnerable. How is Google going to prevent spam?

Stories like this would be serious eye openers to my family and friends who seem to know nothing about computer fraud.
I submited the story to a few local news agencies. Hopefully one of them picks up on it.
