    As I understand it, the nanotubes were designed to assemble in the specific environment of the bug's cell-membrane. Considering the number of biological processes that life-forms on Earth have in common, each nanotube thingie would have to be very finely tuned to avoid having the buggers dissolve the tissues in a person's lungs, liver, brain, etc.
