That you know of, to be fair. It may have discouraged attacks that therefore never happened, technically. Just saying.
All in all, I think they're a lot of BS too though. They've even failed safety tests that fortunately were just tests.
Haven't seen a lot of dignity for the office of late anyway. Obama speaks well but thinks he's a celebrity that should be regularly doing the talk show circuit, and has treated the military with disdain on occasion; Clinton used the Oval office like a brothel. Say what you want about Bush. And what is "nuance", anymore, but more political double-speak, or bowing down to the political correctness fascists. Trump is terribly rough around the edges, and I'm not sure he's presidential material either; but then, IMO, no one right now is. We'll have to find the lesser necessary evil, yet again.
This is true. The Left always often the Right of moving far to the Right, which in some cases is true, Nixon would've been hung out to dry for talking to China in today's world; but they fail to acknowledge how far to the left things have also moved. The congress of the 1970s would never have considered touching the subject of gay marriage,or allowing illegal immigrants amnesty; if someone had said "son of a bitch" during prime time on TV, or shown the suggestive scenes that are so commonplace today (fine by me), they would've flipped their lids, so things have definitely loosened up. The truth is, we (the US anyway) are separating further and further apart, like oil and water, and the reasonable moderates in the middle are the losers; instead of seeing the common ground they can provide, everyone focuses on the where their differences lay.

I think we need a tyrant every now and again. They can still be removed by the people..
No, that's one of the things about being a tyrant- you don't give up your power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Tyrants are only removed by revolution or war, or serious threats of same. I don't usually believe in absolutes, but I've never seen evidence to the contrary in this case.
At the risk of making a strawman, I'm willing to bet you believe that no one human being deserves to be a billionaire, or even a multimillionaire; why should one have that much unchallengeable power over other human beings?
"My way or the highway", in other words. There's already too much of that now; such strong-arm tactics are not what a democracy needs, that's what tyrants do.
All my life I was a twig, up until a point when two things happened about the same time: I turned 30, and became a regular bench tech, sitting down most of the time. Suddenly for the first time, I found myself getting a little pudgy around the midsection (still skinny everywhere else). I think most people's metabolism takes a bit of a dive at around 30 years of age. Plus I was not moving around much. Ever since, it's been a bit of a battle, and that was 20 years ago. Just 3 - 4 years ago, I was at the gym regularly and doing really good, then my back went out, twice. I never got back into the groove, and at +50, it's a little harder to find the energy (and time), but, as with anyone, it's all how I set my own priorities, I'm not going to make excuses. I need to get back in. My weak spot however, isn't soda.. I'm not even fond of it. I love my English ales, cheeses, and meads! Mead is like liquid fat, just drink the pounds on. Argh.
Sure, other things contribute: sedentary lifestyle, long hours sitting at a desk job, low metabolism, even certain genetics; but eating high calorie junk food most certainly contributes significantly. It's a very simple equation of calories in vs. calories spent.
If this were the case, then every country involved in WWII were also guilty of war crimes, not just the evil old USA (and Nazi Germany).
Even a most cursory examination of WWI history will quickly reveal that the entire cities of Coventry and Dresden were obliterated via carpet bombing. What does it matter if it took one bomb, or several hours of bombing with hundreds of bombs? The net result is the same. Bombing cities and killing civilians was the de rigueur of war back then, and even Japan was far from absolved, just look up the Nanking massacre. Some estimates have that death toll at higher than Hiroshima and Nagasaki put together.
Apparently it had numerous "bugs" when it was originally released, some of which were fixed by driver updates, but yeah, I had a lot of fun with it; the RPG elements added a lot to it, and the weapons and ammo selection were surprisingly diverse for id. Can't beat it for $12.
I have to back this up. In June, I used a Paypal debit card for a small vendor at a Ren Faire who used one of these, (I rarely ever used this card) and a month later, I got billed $567 at some Japanese hotel. The dispute is ongoing, though I jumped on it immediately, got the card disabled and a credit; still, that money was out of my checking account for a few days. Now, it could've been a dishonest vendor, or an employee, malware on her phone, or something else, I don't know, -even a different transaction possibly- but it seems beyond coincidence as I rarely use that card and hadn't used it for months and months prior, and had never used it with a card reader before and never had an issue before.
They certainly got stuck in a rut with the point, shoot, find keycard, access new area, repeat routine. Valve showed the world what a good single player campaign should look and act like with Half Life, which raised the bar, and id has never really stepped up to it; their games seem to be designed more to showcase Carmack's latest engine than anything else.
That said, I just played Doom3 and Rage, both on sale at steam, and for the money (I got 'em cheap), they were fairly entertaining. Well, Rage more than Doom3, the latter was full of cheap shots and monsters that spawned or were released behind you, that got old fast. Rage was kinda fun, I liked the sniper mini-games, though the car controls on PC are too touchy, I'd rather use the mouse to steer than keys. I saw the preview of Doom4, and the melee attacks are awesome, but it's going to take a good deal more than that to keep the game interesting. Even the new snapmap feature isn't really bringing needed freshness to the franchise.
I suspect some of that comes down to genetics too; some people seem more predisposed to addiction, particularly alcohol, than others. Yet others simply have more willpower, still others perhaps less stress in their lives - there are a number of factors, but agreed, not everyone becomes an addict. I've dealt with all that too, due to a messed up lower back/herniated discs and degenerative disc disease. For a while though, the best thing for it was going to the gym.. until I overdid it and blew my back out twice in a 4 month period.
I agree for the most part; maybe not quite so much where the really hard stuff like heroin is concerned, and their addiction has led them to commit violent crimes. The war on weed is certainly stupid, as are the ridiculous restrictions on sudafed because of meth cookers.
This article describes what is rationalization and cheer leading for CS, apparently now some sort of cure-all. Sports, really? Okay, 3D modeling makes understanding things like kinesiology easier, true, but that still doesn't mean jocks and athletes will want to learn CS. CS is great, if that's what you want to do. The whole world is increasingly a more technical place, and some degree of computer skills are practically a necessity. Most of us here happily embraced computers, but it's not everyone's cup of tea, and trying to snowball students by claiming it's a gateway to the arts or sports sounds kinda desperate. Those who really want to engage in art, or sports, will just do so, CS would be the long way around.
He fails on multiple levels: some movies are so bad, or campy, that they're actually enjoyable -or at least, funny. But he even fails at that, his movies are just god awful all the way around. Blood Rayne was another game-to-movie translation he destroyed.
I used to work as a bench tech for a large consumer electronics distributor, (now gone), there were about 30 of us all in one large room in the regional service center, working on stereos, VCRs, computers, etc.. you'd walk into work every morning, and every last one of us had Howard Stern playing on his bench stereo (we all had one for testing audio). You probably couldn't do that today in the new PC environment, even if HS went back to FM stations and had to follow the FCC rules. Plus, we were all basically 25- 35 year old white males, not enough diversity for today's workplace.
That you know of, to be fair. It may have discouraged attacks that therefore never happened, technically. Just saying.

Remember, poop transplants can make people fatter or skinnier. Once you realize that, it's all a bunch of shit.
Gouging my eyes out now, but still can't get that image out of my head.
