While historically speaking the Mac was "the best system for multimedia" and that's why they sell, I don't necessarily believe that holds water anymore.
I use Macs exclusively, as does my family and all of my friends (not to mention a lot of people where I work), and none of us do multimedia.
I use it because it is "UNIX", and a lot of my friends and family use it because it is more stable and less "work" that windows (has been in the past, W7 still being evaluated).
So personally, Adobe can crawl into a deep dark corner and die, and it wouldn't influence my purchases of Apple system(s).
I believe pretty much "everywhere" (at least on this planet).
The Advanced Access Content System (AACS) is a standard for content distribution and digital rights management, intended to restrict access to and copying of the next generation of optical discs and DVDs. The specification was publicly released in April 2005 and the standard has been adopted as the access restriction scheme for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD). It is developed by AACS Licensing Administrator, LLC (AACS LA), a consortium that includes Disney, Intel, Microsoft, Panasonic, Warner Bros., IBM, Toshiba and Sony. AACS has been operating under an "interim agreement" since the final specification (including provisions for Managed Copy) has not yet been finalised.
Since appearing in devices in 2006, most AACS decryption keys have been extracted from weakly protected software players and published on the Internet.
So, if you Buy/rent DVDs and/or Blu-ray - you're screwed (at least in 2011, or until the stream can be modified to remove the security...)
The only "real" fix it to stop treating corporations like "humans". They are a company regardless of their filing.
Hold them responsible for their actions, and limit their ability to "pass on" the cost of their bad actions, so it truly affect their bottom line. They don't care when they get "caught"; They "apologize"; then raise their fees/charges/rates/... to cover the cost of the "infraction", then find a new way to screw the customer base. If they actually had to pay, then they would stop, or go out of business - either way the consumer "wins".
I don't have any evidence, but I'll bet the "lease" deal came out of the DTV hacking that was so prevalent in the not to distant past. If they own the equipment, they have more "rights".
It seems a lot of corporations use this cycle; Telecom, Cable/Satellite,...
"but also hoping there are some large punitive damages awarded, too"
I don't. I have had DTV since 1996. I've never had a problem with them (but I've never tried to cancel either...). I've been given free upgrades (DVRs/Receivers), free premium channels (for a year) and other incentives to "stay on-board".
A "large punitive damages award" would only end up be reflected in my bill...
Either left or right. Now if you left finger is on the pad, clicking is just like any other mouse. What timster is saying is you must remove (lift) you left, If you want "right" click...
Maybe crime rates would drop if they spent their time looking for "robberies, murders and rapes..", rather the "responding" to them...
I believe people wouldn't mind "paying the cost", if they "did their job" rather than try to generate revenue...
"paying the cost" = taxes
"did their job" = prevent crime by being present and alert (vs. camped out in the middle of the freeway median, chatting with their officer buddy, waiting for the radar to beep at them)
However, all of the tools above mean nothing without defining very good standards and practices for your organization. Only you and your organization can figure those out...
Apparently we have a different definition of "smart". If one was truly smart, they would realize the (social) benefit(s) of public office, jury duty,...
I would postulate that most don't because of "selfish" issues in most cases, and possible history (e.g.; They have done something they don't want public, and it will be found).
I believe, the only "fix" is to return "public service" back to actually being public - Abolish "Professional Politicians"
"What we REALLY need to do is ban all contributions except those that come from registered voters. If you're not a voter, you can't donate to a Congresscritter's campaign. That would eliminate bribes from corporations which skew our system."
Nice idea, but Corps would just give money to employees, who would then "donate" it to the Congress criitter. I suspect this already happens...
I haven't spent any money on a Blu-Ray yet...
I have a 52" LCD HDTV, AppleTV (XBMC), DirecTV HD DVR, and a old upscaling DVD player.
Why haven't I bought a Blu-Ray yet? Because I have yet to find anything on blu-ray I'm willing to pay the "tax" for.
I wouldn't say it's missing the "all-important Apple logo.", but it is missing the Apple OS...
Nerds I'd like to file system?
I don't get it... /sarcasm
So your suggestion is check fraud?
Much like cnn, msnbc, nbc, cbs, abc?
Hmm, let's see:
Implanting a back door in any one (if not all) of the Apache products, so that when Citibank does an upgrade...
Far fetched, yes. But not out of the realm of possibility...

"no intelligent businessman would operate such a money-losing enterprise"
I wouldn't call a $1 Billion profit a loss...

"you aren't going to last long"
Pun intended?
Incorrect, it requires a physical force to click.

Not with the Apple Product.
I'm using one now, and there is a "tactical" feel for the actual click...
PEBCAK?

We utilize a number of tools depending on the site, but generally:
Version Control (Subversion) for management of the code base (PHP, CSS, HTML, Ruby, PERL,...) - http://subversion.tigris.org/
BCFG2 for management of the system(s) patches and configurations (Uses svn for managing the files) - http://trac.mcs.anl.gov/projects/bcfg2
Capistrano/Webistrano for deployment (Webistrano is a nice GUI to capistrano - http://www.capify.org/ / http://labs.peritor.com/webistrano
However, all of the tools above mean nothing without defining very good standards and practices for your organization. Only you and your organization can figure those out...
Obviously you don't work for the U.S. Government or one of its contractors...
I wanted to add:
If you are not willing to participate in society, then you have no grounds to complain about it...

"VOTE FOR SMARTER CONGRESSPEOPLE"
In order to vote for them, they need to actually run for the office...
Wy do people think things like TiVO, Hulu,... are so successful?
I believe the general public is tired of be bombarded to "BUY MORE!"

I suspect few geeks have less that 1Tb (or is it 1TB) of disk space...
Personally, I have over 21 Tb in 6Tb, 6Tb, 4Tb, and 5Tb increments...
