I'll also add-- fuck windows 8. I've had to fix a few peoples windows 8 issues and computers and seriously fuck that. Maybe windows 9, but until microsoft gets their head out of their ass I'll not update from windows 7.
It IS spyware exactly how we've seen it in windows for ages. It's default-on which makes it no better than all the spyware that comes packaged with software. If it was default-off and asked at first boot/during install/whatever if it could be enabled I would have no issue.
The way it presently is setup is just dirty like all spyware.
... the UI. Which is partially stored server side and manipulated only serverside, which causes major lag for ANYTHING using the UI.
The combat I enjoy (it's far slower paced than say wow or eq2 though), the crafting is ok, the class system I really like, etc... but the UI is just hideous, it's designed for a controller and using one alleviates 50% of the issues... but not the lag. Until they can fix the lag (and the only fix is moving the ui clientside completely... which I doubt they're willing to do.) there are going to be no good reviews, the ui is so bad it overshadows EVERYTHING.
The slower combat and old school style are definitely not for everyone, but the UI pushes it towards "not for anyone."
Correlation does not imply causation. If it did you'd be an inbred racist hick who jumps to conclusions about statistics when they know nothing about how statistical analysis works.
Actually having worked in the computer industry and having had extensive exposure to the types of things attorney's tend to write... I hope no law should ever be written by an attorney. A law should be readable and understandable by anyone who reads it. Attorneys will even tell you they can't practice outside their specialty because *THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND* the nuances of the other specialties.
The simple reality is: most people who pirate aren't going to buy anyways. It's not a loss if someone downloads your content and tinkers with it 5m and then never touches it again and that is what happens with *a lot* of content. Nor is it a loss if someone downloads your content (because they can't afford it) and likes it and 5 of their friends go out and buy it even though the original person never does.
The iPhone or a smart phone of some sort is just the beginning of a wearable pc, it's a component in the mess. Bluetooth and other wireless technologies need to further develop and better batteries. No component except the central unit should be bigger than a bluetooth headset. Until they get that far its never going to catch on.
We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first reasonable wearable computer.
In reality I would wager less of the dd-wrt routers would get patched, but only because a lot of them were deployed by non-professionals who will likely not see the news.
What you're advocating, in a round about way, is security through obscurity.
Security through obscurity doesn't work.
All security through obscurity does is propagate a false sense of security that you're safe because you've not heard any major news headlines telling you that you're vulnerable... meanwhile, you've been rooted for 3 months.
Nothing is original it can all be floated back to 7 basic stories (or is it 9? shrug) using that theory. *rolls eyes*
WoW wasn't tremendously innovative, however it did implement some innovative ideas (at its release). What it really did was show a level of polish at release most game releases lacked. It had an interesting game world that a lot of people were familiar with and loved and easily recognisable class functions that weren't tremendously complex to play (unlike say eq1, uo, ac, or daoc by comparison) that increased its playability considerably.
WoW and EVE both innovated at least some degree, especially when compared to the MMOs that followed them.
If the beta was any indication, I'd move along. It was at best describable as "the worst of the barrens" most of the times with rampant kill stealing and other lovely fun behavior.
yes it will persist because a lot of it is due to price... $400 for a console is absurd.
You can have a ton of fun with a wii just like a 360 or ps3. They each have their strong and weak points but in the end it comes down to fun and graphics isn't necessarily the top of the fun list.
What? Who cares if these idiots like it. Who cares if they consider it "rude"? If they need a laptop they should go buy a laptop or piss off. My computer is not a school resource.
... to do over I'd have stayed in academia. Get your masters, get your doctorate, and get a job in academia somewhere. There is no better job when you factor in wage, stress, and vacation time.

... for games, if every mmo and steam was useable (with out being banned for hacking) in linux, I'd never boot windows again.
Course, it's been like that for 5 years.
... but in this particular case he is very right.

... or you could just use debian you know, the distribution ubuntu is based off of.
Linode all the way, they're aren't kvm but you can run a custom kernel. Their control panel is absolutely top notch.
I've had vps on linode, amazon, some openvz crap server, godaddy, rackspace, and slicehost. Linode is the one i would recommend.

... prince knows when something is over, look at how much time he's had to ponder it since his career ended.
Well that might be something they can actually legitimately blame on gaming instead of all the crap they normally blame on it.
In the modern era we use this thing called a "remote access card" or an ip enabled pdu.
If you're at the datacenter and you're not:
A) Installing or Removing hardware
B) Physically rewiring something
C) Replacing a failed piece of hardware
You're doing it wrong.

oh wait.. never mind.

I wish i had some moderator points to mod this as insightful.
That is a tremendously wise attitude necessary to the proper function of a government for the people.
Unfortunately, the US federal government is no longer that body.
