It would be similar to the United States attempting to annex Cuba by extending the border a further 90 miles south.
Oddly enough, I can see that happening. The coast guard finds 1 too many ships with Cuban cigars and Bush sends a carpet bombing campaign for 3 weeks straight to "liberate the oppressed masses". This of course done concurrently with a law stating the waters are extended temporarily to 300 miles "in order to protect America from impending terrorism".
Hey, it could happen. I never thought in a million years that I'd see a time where a company is claiming ownership of Linux because of a couple lines of code, America occupying 2 other countries with the same ROE as Vietnam, and the rest of the world becoming more free than America.
the oddest thing about that would be that their primary reason of existance would work against them. Since they are outside of any nations waters, no one can stop it. Of course, I'd imagine that if it ticked the wrong people off, you could have harrier jets overhead in less than a week after the "coup".
Though, you have to admit, a real-life Metal Gear Solid 2 mission would be an impressive thing to see.;)
He pretty much sounds like one of those unreconstructed 1960s communists that claim that the reason the USSR failled is because it was not communist enough.
I hate to sound like a stickler but I'm going to, anyway. The original socialist movement away from mother Russia's old Czar ruling was stealthfully turned into a form of totalitarian "dictatorship" shortly after the revolution. So, in actuality, the "communists" you speak of weren't truely speaking of communism as it was currently in mother russia, they were talking about what the true intent was in the beginning.
It was a glimmer of hope for the Russians until that revolution turned out how it did.
I remember when 1.2 was out and everyone was getting 1.3 together (development). Everyone wanted to know what was going on, etc. After a while, 1.3 was going on forever, extending into new realms, etc... Man, it feels like 1.4 lasted nearly forever in the development cycle.. 1.4rc1, 1.4rc2, 1.4rc3,4,5,6,7,8.... lol I know it wasn't that many, but man. I'm sitting here thinking, "wow... it's out... it's finally out" and all of this time I've been essentially running it:P (emerge -u world)
So. to put this to a closing... "Oh my dear god, Gentoo 1.4 FINAL is out!! Pop open the keg and lets finish it off, cuz now we can start complaining about 1.5 not being done! wooohooo!":)
Nope... apt-get is a frontend for dpkg on debian. Essentially, it sees the dependancies, snags them from the net, and manages everything for you. Of course, entirely in binary format.
I believe you can do it in source also with certain flags, but I've never tried it.
My P4-1.8Ghz does that in about a little under 24 hours. Of course, you can still do whatever you normally do while your doing that, it'll just be a little slower.
They said "people like the Gentoo team". Not the Gentoo team, themselves. They're right, it was people who wanted to better Linux, make it more configurable and give the user more options.
though it would be nice if they could detect floods and cut that traffic off.
I've been wondering for years why some sort of feature in the Cisco IOS hasn't been implemented to enable this type of protection. Then again, I guess it would be hard to detect if it was a flood, or just a simple high-bandwidth transfer... would be nice though.
SPs should DEFINITELY be providing proxies, which allow some small amount of abstraction which could protect their users.
I definately agree with that. As long as it's an optional proxy, and not a transparent proxy.
Sprint's "all digital" shtick is supposed to be a selling point, but it's actually a disadvantage. If there's no digital signal, I'd much rather fall back to analog (plus not have to pay roaming charges) than have no service at all.
I have a (company-owned) Sprint SCP4900 dual-band digital phone through Sprint PCS, and I get analog when I get outside of their digital network.
Smokers still seem to think it is and should be acceptable for them to blow smoke right in a non-smokers breathing area.
Uhh.. dude, you need new friends. I (and my many friends who do smoke) take great pains not to blow smoke at a person, out of respect. (much less it's just rude)
So, I'd recommend you relocate to a new circle of friends. Maybe look around for more respectful mates.
I was told the same thing when my contract ended with AT&T. I was paying 25 cents a minute peak time (way back when...) and when my contract ended alot of other places were offering >10 cents a minute peak time fee. I figured I'd give them a ring, and when I did they said their rates have actually gone up, and since my contract ended with the old rate I'd have a new, higher rate with my new contract. Obviously I tossed the phone in the trash and didn't continue service....
You know, sickeningly enough I think you're right. Or maybe there are some components that Ximian owns that they are going to integrate into their other product(s). Much like AOL did with Gecko or whatever it was called.
Then, once they are done with development of it completely to their liking, dissolve Ximian.
Yeah, I guess that would be possible. It would be a major strain on your eyes though, considering it's sort of a hologram and all.... You know what I mean?
He did say ISP's, he didn't say your local network administrator.
If your running an ISP, your serving a network connection to people who have their own thing to do. If you alter their abilities, your not providing. You may as well just put up a squid proxy and tell them to point their browser at that.
Now if your a netadmin at and enduser location, sure.. block those ports.
That's not necessarily true. Well.. okay, most of the time! LOL
Alot of the people who do coding code it because they want that feature. They submit a patch and that's that.

What in the hell is a moistened bint?
The Christians seem to unfortunately be doing great for 2000 years...
These countries have already ignored the UN's opinion on a certain military campaign very recently.
Not to worry, Iraq is under a new regime now, so we won't have that problem any longer.

Oh yeah, that's all we need, another blitzkrieg only with American jets...
=)

Why is this a troll?
It's merely a statement!
Time to upgrade that 486 ;)

Your food after it's been processed.
If I'm not mistaken, the potato battery is because of the alkali in it, or something like that.
Basically, the same context as a normal battery. Not much to do with the starch, really.
Forgive me, it's been years since I've bothered retaining information on batteries. I've been too busy sucking career oriented information =)

why not make it GPL and write a roadmap for the project.
Then you could start a consulting firm that integrates it into a companies existing infrastructure.

I'd prefer you kept your eyes on the road and didn't look at the radio to put a cd in, or change the station, or look to left or right.
It only takes a second to glance to see the signal, you don't have to dial fifty numbers or anything.
that should have been less than 10 cents...
need my coffee for the morning.
