I am at the point where I can't really laugh about Dilbert comics anymore because they are too true to be good.

He's also to great parts too stupid to use a Mac. And that's Mac OS X. And he always lets his PowerBook's battery run completely emtpy until the machine switches off (well, the power gets cut-off that is), and then is surprised that some of the data on his harddisk is fubar-ed (might also be connected to the dropping).

PHB are the pestilence of earth and they drive nothing and no one (except me nuts). PHB are too stupid to use any computer. Take my boss. He's really managed to break 4 laptops all of them by dropping them on a concrete floor (repeatedly). Still he wouldn't start handling his laptop with more care.

PHBs are simply unworthy and shouldn't touch computers at all. They'll never get it.

But the thing is if the new OS breaks a major piece of software then the question is, why? Most likely the major piece of software might have been using some undocumented API and they knew it was going to break some day.

I mean Apple warns about that all the time. If you use undocumented APIs, those might change and break the app. So if there's a change in those APIs, usually developers will find out with beta releases and early seeds of the OS and they can provide patches in time. Why would you patch the OS for that?

E.g. OS X 10.1 broke a helluvalot apps and they all got patched to be able to run on the new OS. Same with 10.2

    How about these little things
    - drag and drop works throughout the system between all applications (you can even drag and drop an item to the terminal window to get it's path pasted in there)
    - Most applications can handle multibyte fonts/languages out of the box and switching input methods on the fly is one keystroke away
    - there's a proper font management system and OS X handles TrueType Mac, TrueType Windows, Type 1 (PostScript fonts) and OTF fonts just fine (again installing them is as easy as drag and drop or doubleclicking and clicking the install button)
    - when installing an application RPM won't tell you that it actually needs the "whateverthefuck.lib.so.8" before it can install the package, but won't tell you where in the world to get that library
    - There are interface guidelines and most developers stick to them (!), so you can enjoy the same basic keyboard shortcuts in every application, most menues are in the same location in every app etc.
    - OS X Services (this rules)
    - Automatic switching of network interfaces seamlessly on-the-fly (wirless, ethernet, firewire etc.)

I could go no for hours, but you get the idea.

Mac on Linux to run Photoshop? Great, then you'll have to run two operating systems at the same time to get your work done? How effective. I guess you've found a way to stash more than 640MB of RAM into your iBook, because that's about what you'd need to keep your machine running effectively.

I'd rather stay in OS X, install X11 and fink for the few Linux GUI apps you might need and I'd be done.
