and I can keep my dirty cars, gas stations and everything else. Chu Chu is not a train sound, nor anybody eating something. It's this crazy physics Nobel prize winning PHD's idea of the ONLY carbon neutral fuel source for Mother Earth.
Why don't I read more of people getting an board (ha ha) with him?
Earth is way overdue for a magnetic field reversal. They have an average interval of 1/4 million years and it has been 3/4 million already since the last one. Some say it is beginning with the loss of a magnetic pole in certain places in the southern hemisphere. It could be the cause of the ozone layer loss because as the field weakens it radius at the poles grows. When the field is strong the field meets at the poles in a tight radius.
Here are some cool sims from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
As we lose protection more radiation gets through and mother earth gets a temperature. I'm not saying that 100 years of intense burning hasn't contributed but this seems to be an ignored fact that may be contributing in a large manner.
I recently found Atlantic Sound Factory and they play all the music I like with "NO REPEAT WORK WEEK" THAT IS AWESOME! Except for maybe sat radio nothing comes close.
As far as sound I am getting great 128 bit feeds. If I have to restart a few times during the day that is no big deal.
The only problem I do have with them is that they seem to be going after larger audiances rather than building up a war chest with the donations. If I donate $10 that should cover the cost of my connection for about 4 months. Instead of holding my donation it just seems that add more slots. Sheesh.
Best Iradio station ever and I listen 12 hr/day. No repeat work weeks! Can you imagine no dup songs for 5 days!!! This is what I would hate to lose. I pay my ISP, Gooogle pays their ISP so where is the problem here? Yes Atlantic Sound Factory pays also.... SO WHO IS NOT GETTING PAID? Well actually it is Me and Atlantic Sound Factory. Everyone else gets paid. So I have only one thing to say to Verizon...WTF, are you talking about?
Trying to "outlaw" and "enforce" usb devices is an option only for the dim whitted. I will probably use your suggestion.
I have heard all this before and business keeps on ticking.... 1980's style - no floppy drives in computers 1970's - photo copiers lead to loss of sensitive data 1960's - Beware of employees with Kodak cameras 1950's - Don't through carbon paper into trash cans That's as far back as I go...:)
I even bought the expensive OS eh... XP something...and it won't work on my PPC! It wasn't even the cheapest OS I could find. I spent good money for this. What is up with that? Doesn't the PPC have better support. Yea, I could have chosen that other bargain basement OS, but sheesh I want to spend good money on things. This OS and my PPC just won't run no matter how hard I try! I even Googled for a solution. NOTHING!
*Fun over*
You should be able to return it and correct your purchasing decision. So nothing but some time was lost and that you gained back in education.
Hardware/Software incompatability is not anything specific to Linux. Get used to it and be thankful for generous return policies.
I boot my notebook from a knoppix live CD all the time and connect with the built in wireless adaptor. It's one of the expensive ones you can only get from Walmart:) (love my AMD powered Averatec).
You launched an awesome rocket. We live on a golf course here and people were wondering why we were all looking up at the sky. It reminded me of an old joke we played on people in New York City walking around looking up, it was stupid, but it was funny. Anyway we had about 10 golfers backed up till New Horizons was out of site and a bunch of neighbors were watching also. While they were all playing through my son and I gave them a show with his baking soda & vinegar rocket...all to applause. I thought you might be interested in how us simple folk enjoy the great work that you do. We have season passes to the Kennedy Space Center and I use it to instill good things on my 2 children.
I had set up with my daughter to text message her so her class could go outside and see it. But the school system found the delays and such to distracting to the class. My daughter came home in tears because she wanted to see it so much. At age 10 she felt she missed one of her great moments in her life. I have totally given up on the school system. Here was an awesome chance to instill the reasons for science and they are sitting in a room oblivious of such science just out the window. Sheesh!
I start with, once vulnerabilities for a given OS or browser are identified and xyz corp says upgrade to next version to get protection then that is the cut off. If they mfg won't support it then I do not. Most people here know that vicious attacks have helped software companies more than hurt them. They were under the pressure of "old version works good enough for me" till the black hats came out and forced people to upgrade not for new user features, but just fixing things broken in the first place.
I do admit I have some sites that do not adhere to this policy explicitly. Life is complicated and this comment box is small.
They look great from my back yard. Just saw New Horizons go off and it was a blast:) Saw the last shuttle also. Now that I can see the rockets I have become a big fan of launches. So what about 1/2 billion here, 3/4 billion there. It's fun. Anyway, I don't where these scientists get their patience, New Horizons will take 12 years! Sheesh! Well between the billion dollar launches I shoot off vineger and baking soda rockets with my 5 year old. They are a lot of fun also.
you act as a parent. Toss some CD's and a $3K alienware pc at a kid and expect them to be the next Einstein then you are in for a disappointment.
However, sit and play with your child using the interactive training available and I will tell you from experience it is AWESOME! My daughter was reading at the "3rd grade level" (whatever that means) entering kindergarten (at age 4 not 5).
She loved the time we spent together so much she would do anything as long as we were together. The games took the pressure off of me so we could just play together. I didn't have to worry what to teach, how to teach, etc. Just being there with her was all it took. We progressed just like any gamer would from version 1 -> 2 -> etc. What more can a dad ask for. You know teaching a elementary pupil it is real easy to look like a star! This all started 10 years ago and now she gets ranked with a "Nobel IQ" and placed in really cool classes at school.. Guess all those discount "Magic School Bus" disks paid off. Love Miss Frizzle!
On the contrary my next child was a bit slower. He didn't want to play the games. Well not exactly, once I sat with him and played together he took off like he had solid rocket boosters attached to his Buzz Lightyear electronic sneakers.
Moral of the story, play with your kids....but do it in a way you enjoy! Also realize how important you are to them. It just might save you a college tuition or 2!:)
Will Walmart have a "cubicle" meeting with their PC mfg's and invite Google to site in. The buzz on this was way to furious for any marketeer to ignore.
Walmart has tried the Linux route before. Even though this might not be a Linux solution it surely would not be a Win solution.
These studies are nice and peek curiosity into the hypothetical. They are nothing to stake your cheese, the future of your company or the security of your government on. If you really want the straight scoop for massive Internet portals just play the old school yard game "Follow the leader". What stack does Slashdot use to avoid the Slashdot effect all day every day? What stack is Google using NOW? What stack does Yahoo use? You surely must dismiss the giants that are selling stacks, because they will try to eat their own dog food no matter how much they choke on it. So the PHD's keep publishing or die, trolls keep flooding the place with mod points, I will ignore you all the same way I ignore Politicians promising to "work for me". Go away I have work to do.
It is a wonder that this research did not look to existing implementations of their design to see what the "best in class" solutions were using. Hummm....
Keep the sheep comments to yourself unless you have millions to spend on independent research yourself. A few engineers and a lab burn up 1 million dollars real quick!
Come on MS trolls you have lots of points to hand out...I bet this little puppy catches a Singapore caning.
it is no wonder. I predict much more of this. Willing or unwilling I consider MS to blame. A simple dumb click by a dumb user should not allow a rootkit that cannot be removed get installed PERIOD! How is it that WinXP has option "Hidden files and folders - Show hidden files and folders" yet these files are still hidden. I PAID YOU FOR THIS, YOU WORK FOR ME! GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN.
Oh yea, and Registry entries are hidden Also! Where is the option to display hidden registry entries? It must exist, yet I cannot find the option to turn it off.SONY found it! I do not think I will be interested your new fangled SOL file system now. You can't get the old one working right. If MS cannot fix this problem they should get out of the operating system business. If u think Linux is to niche just opt for solaris. Game over Bill. I almost wish this problem hit me then I would have cause to go after these thugs.
I sure hope the CIA has at least infected China's version of the CIA and the Iranian's and the Russian's CIA.
In reality some dumb ass 16 year old has already done it and the CIA is clueless.
It has already been reported that the anti-virus companys helped create the rootkit. The anti-virus companys were paid to protect their customer from these things. Can you ever trust them again? Is it worth paying them an annual fee when all they are doing is keeping out people that do not pay them off! MS may become the biggest loser as governments realize the Windows OS has this bigger then Everest hole in it. As they wake up they may realize they need another solution and FAST! Governments deal in billions of dollars, surely they have the expertise to review the code of FOSS to determine if there are back doors. So when you are protecting the keys to the kingdom who do you choose?
the door. Just as he thought "time for for the LED water cooled boxer shorts". S.T. puts it on as the growls of a backdraft thunder through the building. "Do it now" he thinks to himself as he grasps the red hot handle and enters with the gasping sound of the regulator. He now has entered into the biggest flame fest ever at his old hangout at ash dot.
It seems impossible for a keystroke logger to get installed on it so it would be perfect for banking and trading. The 800x480 screen should handle normal web pages. I boot with a live cd either ubuntu or knoppix when I am doing this stuff. If I can get some GPS software for it then it will be under the tree in december. May end up there regardless:)
Microsoft! My firewall always lights up every time I launch their products. That is ok, I can block that. But can the OS provider do the same thing SONY has been doing? Personally I don't know.

I first heard of this from watching a NOVA program. Here is the NOVA site on earths magnetic fields with some animations.
Ok, now where did I put the SPF 10,000?
