A business this big doesn't need time to change - it needs desire to change. With all its (possible) evil implications, European Union seems to give Microsoft a desire to change. In light of the fines imposed by the EU Let me adjust that for you
A business this big has change to spare - it desires to give away spare change. With all it's possible implications, Microsoft desires to give spare change to the European Union.
There used to be stable eg 2.4 and unstable e.g 2.5 Minor changes made to unstable had to be back ported to stable and it was painful to do that as well as develop the unstable version.
He is now saying that they
have been able to do fairly invasive things even while not actually destabilizing the kernel ie the changes can be made to the current version without having to backport.
Unless there is a very major change to be made which will break the current version they will continue with just the one version.
I wonder what the differences would be for bilingualism in closely related languages, such as the Latin derived romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian, etc) as opposed to languages further apart eg Japanese vs English.
Would a person fluent in both Japanese and English be less susceptible that someone fluent in in two of the romance languages?
Yeah those pneumatic tubes were cool and it's what I thought of when I took a gander at your site. Always thought they'd be cool to ride in if they could make one big enough. And they'd deliver Ted Stevens internet faster than than his dump truck filled tubes too;-) Looking forward to having trying Tubes out
I took a gander at the site and thought it would be interesting to play around with. d/l and install. Watch a couple of the demo vids to see how it works. Try to create a Tube - the vid and docs say type in a name and press create...
no go.. The advanced window appears asking me to 'Select an account' and this is required. However this is a drop down box with no accounts pre-loaded and no apparent way to create them.. Can't even click the ellipsis button to select another folder to share
I'd personally add automatic transmission to that list. A clutch allowing driver controlled engine braking gives far more control over the vehicle than an auto.
Yeah the cost is what puts me off eReader (although I'm not sure if they're even available in my neck of the woods yet).
If the reader could be made available relatively cheaply say $100USD (around $130 NZD atm) then titles could be sold at current market rates - eventually as the technology becomes more widespread then even title prices would drop
I know a few people, myself included who dislike reading e-books due to the nature of the screen. Also it's not easy to curl up with a good e-book on a computer (laptops are too bulky and pocket pc screens are too small)
If this works and can link with eInk screens to create an easily held, clearly visible book format then I'd be happy to switch away from the dead-tree format.
and you can be sure they'll try and implement a completely unwarranted nationwide filtering system, given half the chance. And that is something I don't agree with, based on what I mentioned in my first post. I'm with you. Schools and businesses have every right to control access to the Internet and many do. In fact TFA doesn't mention where the computer was that uploaded the vid to Youtube.
The biggest problem is that parents don't control access to the Internet at home. That's what the government should be focusing on - not a national ban and what can/'t be viewed but ensuring parents have the necessary skills, knowledge and awareness of what their kids are doing online and how to prevent them from online harm.
Was anyone else reminded of the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space (series not '98 movie)? Not so much the shape (Jupiter 2 was flatter) but the take-off and landing looked very similar to those on the show.
I'm not a neurologist (or any other kind of brain expert) but as I understand it the brain works on a series of electro-chemical reactions and extremely low frequency signals (feel free to correct me on how this works).
FTFA
The researchers found that when the participants were presented with the products, a subcortal brain region known as the nucleus accumbens that is associated with the anticipation of pleasure was activated. When the subjects were presented with prices that were excessive, two things happened: the brain region known as the insula was activated and a part of the brain associated with balancing gains versus losses -- the medial prefrontal cortex -- was deactivated. Would it be possible to determine the frequencies which cause these regions to respond? Imagine retailers beaming a 'Buy me! Buy me!' signal straight into your brain.

A decade in the making. We'll all be whisked back to '97 allowing 3D Realms to claim the shortest major game development in history. Vapourware will cease to exist, and./ will fold in on itself and collapse into a singularity
You say you are using Win2k and Linux, however you don't state any reasons as to why you need to move to Vista. As the old saying goes: If it ain't broke don't fix.

Yep and it was connected to the server given that it sync'd the What's New and Help tubes
It may very well be a bug related to my machine. I've logged it with them and will wait for a response

Pity cause it appears to be a good concept

Agreed

I agree entirely kids should be using computers to build and develop their imagination, not become fledgling cubicle monkeys
The $100 laptop hardware may be designed and destined for the 3rd world - but the interface could be put to use anywhere
Anything which allows kids to explore and extend their imaginations whilst learning should be embraced wholeheartedly.

And we'd save a few trees along the way
I'm a Kiwi actually :)
You need to at least *have* a space program to fake moon landings

Still I understand the sentiment

That aside I wish the Blue Origin team luck

Looks like the MIB are slipping. Either that or those 10 had their eyes closed when the flashy-thingy(tm) was used.

Aye I right with you on that one :)
