this is definitely the quickest easiest most secure solution.
i did exactly this for a while on time warner cable. they only charged us another $22 a month for the extra cable modem rather than charging us for 2 full internet packages.
again, unlike the old VHS vs Betamax days, this is not a war. there doesnt have to be a winner this time because all of these things are the same size. who won the dvd format war? +r or -r? ahh thats right, they both won and every drive sold now includes both technologies.
who will win? all of the technology companies. who will lose? us poor suckers who have no choice but to buy a drive that supports all formats.
listen to the radio interview that PA posted a link to a few days ago. jack says "Hillary Clinton" this and "Hillary Clinton" that and "Hillary Clinton is going to run for president so you better watch out." he says her name a total of about 10 times. he is obviously kissing up to who he sees as the next big thing so he can move to a position of power. it sickens me.
the problem is that he has now picked a fight with the gamer community. gamers are intelligent, methodical thinkers. gamers are very experienced at getting from point A to point B and avoiding all the obstacles inbetween.
this guy wont last much longer. hes so stupid and power hungry and emotional that hes going to step on his own feet and self destruct. as you point out, maybe thats not such a good thing though....
exactly. unfortunately, BOTH formats are going to win because, as with recordable DVD formats, we're all going to have to wait for combo drives that support all formats. all the companies get their licensing fees and we, the consumers, get boned. its cool, im used to it.
i feel the same way, but i think youre wrong about the last part. i would guess that a lot of people are moving to a more casual approach to gaming.
i used to be more hardcore... most of my free time was spent playing games. but, as with everything else these days, it became too expensive and time consuming to keep the gaming habit going.
there used to be about 4 video cards to choose from and they were only 200-300 bucks. there used to be only 2 processor choices. there used to be one choice for RAM.
there were only a handful of shooter games. a handful of strategery;) games.
there were only a handful of gaming sites, and they were not so deep in bed with the game and hardware publishers.
end result... by the time im done sifting through articles to learn about chipsets, processors, and memory- by the time im done reading reviews and benchmarks and trying to filter out paid bias- by the time i find a game that might be worth playing.... yawn.
yep until there is a format that is as universally supported (dvd players, car stereos, ipod type devices, etc) as mp3, or until most/all devices will let you install your own codecs, mp3 is not dead.

true, but wow costs 15 bucks a month. that will get you about half a tank of gas in the real world.
online gaming can be much cheaper than real life.

agreed, this could be VERY practical.
hold down the ctrl key and-
x changes to "cut"
c changes to "copy"
v changes to "paste"
hold down the windows key and-
e changes to an explorer icon
pause/break changes to system properties
alt-tab out of q3 and the keys change back to letters
alt-tab to photoshop and the keys change to shortcuts and macros
you could have picked a better example...
