And I had thought that digg's comment posing was mindless enough, now we have AOL (the internet with training wheels) trying to be with it and think they can just come along and do a news site. I mean, i'll give them that it's a decent beta at this point but hardcore slashdot type people usually dont want to touch AOL with a ten foot pole. So good luck on having any intellegent discussion by people who actually have a degree in a cs/engineering/science related field (and no, devry university doesn't count).

I'll make the prediction right here and right now that this website will be the myspace of internet news.

  7. that was a pretty retarted decision on Lenovo To Shun Linux · · Score: 0

This in many ways makes no sense at all. I thought one of the main reasons that they were buying IBM's PC business was to expand their customer base. Haven't they learned that by looking at MS's past deals w/ vendors similar to Lenvono deals have gone sour and they have paid the price for not considering the open os market? Everyone knows that some of the most loyal gnu/Linux enthusiasts used thinkpads mainly because they had an excellent support relationship with IBM? _geezzz_ Someone has just shot themselves in the foot. Sure other people in the comments have been saying the exact same thing that I have but, it's so critical i just had to post it ;-P

  9. well... ok. on Slashdot CSS Redesign Winner Announced · · Score: 0

I'll give it to the designer of the winning submission: it looks nice enough. Granted, I couldn't pull off something that nice myself so I wont go too negative. However, i'm going to agree with many others that say you're just, "polishing a turd" with this redesign. Nothing great or radical has come from this design in my opinion -- It's just more of the same with all this web 2.0 type look and crap. What about changing to a color scheme thats easier to read? geez...
As for the second design... it takes more chances than the winning one does, and looks better.
Chances are there isn't going to be another "major" cosmetic change to the /. frontpage in sometime to come so it kind of feels like this oppurtunity has been wasted to experiment with a different way of thinking for _at least awhile_.
If I had my way, I would have made the website themeable so that you could do you own fance little css design, and upload it to some centeral server. To go even farther, you could maybe browse all the designs that have been uploaded based on previous votes or something like that. The design for the front page would then be the overall winner for past month or something similar. Oh well...

Then you'd have slashdots regular audience (13 year olds who think they know C++), posting things in the comments area like, "d00d digg had this story like 3 hours ago man", and i'd totally laugh my ass off and go eat some crackers.
